Lucky Escape

It was evening now, and no sign of the man,
The Saudi buyer with a gruesome plan.
He’d ordered new stock just a week ago;
Who cared for his life or family though?

Janet was tired, the two "living dead" drained her dry,
And she laid down to sleep with a weary sigh.
Her job was done; the trap was set,
Leaving her parents to handle the rest.

But as she closed her eyes to rest,
Questions rose that she tried to suppress.
*"Why am I different? Why am I cold?
Why has no one loved me, or so I am told?"*

She recalled the day her life first changed,
Watching her father’s actions, deranged.
*“Sin brings death,”* they’d told her then,
But who gave them the right to condemn?

*"I fought it once, I fought with might,
But my own life depends on fright."*
Her mother's voice broke her trance,
As her thoughts returned to the dark expanse.

*“Janet, Janet, don’t dawdle there
Mr. Kones is here; get the door if you care!”*
She ran to the door, feeling nothing but dread;
Kones eyed her coolly and tilted his head.

*"Princess, you’re pale, your face seems grim.
A bad night’s sleep?"* she lied to him.
Kones moved to the room without delay,
Impatiently waiting for “goods” on display.

Meanwhile, in the basement, men marched to the door,
Where Julie and Sam sat, afraid on the floor.
Julie’s tracker had just sent a ping;
In that small device lay their last hope’s spring.

The men burst in, dragged them out fast,
Their blindfolds secure as they stumbled past.
Leaving behind a phone on the bed,
Their chances seemed bleak, filled with dread.

As Janet descended, she slipped and fell,
Her body tumbled as she let out a yell.
Blood poured as she hit the ground,
Her strength faded without a sound.

“James, James,” she whispered low,
The call was faint, but enough for him to know.
He turned from his task to check below,
Finding her there with blood’s cruel flow.

An uproar broke across the floors,
With every servant rushing from doors.
Sensing change, Sam acted quickly,
Kicking his guard with a move so slick.

He snatched the gun, though blind as night,
The men just laughed at his pitiful plight.
*"Think you’ll win this? You’re out of luck,"*
A slap landed hard, and the men laughed in mock.

*"Let’s make it fun, remove the fold,
Let’s see if they’re as brave as bold!"*
They pulled the blindfolds off with glee,
And Sam saw the chance he’d need to flee.

With Julie in hand, he ran down the hall,
Using swift moves to avoid a fall.
At the other end, Hugghs fetched his keys,
Rushing Janet out with the greatest of ease.

As Sam and Julie fled, the guards held back,
Their focus is on Janet’s bloodied track.
Outside the gate, headlights appeared;
Sam slowed as they neared, their arrival unclear.

Who were these strangers, with the timing so tight?
Could they be the rescue, the hope in the night?
