Chapter 020 - Aian
I smirk at the scene, of how the Rajah allows her to come closer and how he stares down at her. That stunned look, it's amusing. Jade can do it. If she would really fight for Renz, there might be a chance she could take him back.
My smile widens, it would have been funnier if Cielo is here to get an eyeful of it. Because hey, look at that face, Renz is angry. The confident smile that he wears when he arrives is replaced by a scowl. From the time I met him as Jade's boyfriend, he's always all smiles and gentle. This is the first time I've seen him with this much negative emotion. It's fun.
"Woman, stop being so impulsive," I scold, despite being entertained. In the meantime, let's ignore how the Rajah looks after Jade as she bounded off the platform. What she said to him, I am very curious to know.
"You always forget that you have a brain!" Migo criticizes.
However, his attention is elsewhere. He is glaring in the direction of the Rajah with his fist clenched. What could he do against him anyway? We are under his domain and I'm sure he knows that.
Hmmm, maybe that's why he hasn't made a move towards the Rajah? He's probably attempting to control his emotion.
"Let's just all be grateful that there's no harm done, okay?" Laya says. His language is now taking after the nuances of our language.
Jade giggles but it is Migo who speaks, "No harm done?"
This is a riot. Jade laughs with Laya and both Migo and Renz are angry. I'm certain it's due to different reasons though. Thankfully, our table cannot be seen easily from the platform.
"No harm done," Laya repeats. "Lately, the Rajah had been careful not to bring any women in his chamber. So, as I said, no harm is done."
"Really? He won't? That's such a waste!" Jade comments, obviously still drunk. She takes another glass and brings it to her mouth.
"Stop aggravating the situation, Jade," I say, stopping her from drowning another glass of lambanog. "And stop drinking already." I snatch the glass from her, causing some of its contents to spill on the table.
"Why? It was Laya who dared me," she reasons, stealing back the alcohol from me.
I glare at Laya.
"Stop looking at me like that. No harm is done. I say. The Rajah won't take a wife," he repeats as if it's enough to calm the people on the table.
Damn, it's hard to keep a straight, mean face, especially when all I want is to laugh out loud at the absurdity of the situation.
"And when should they worry?" Jade asks.
Damn, this woman. I thought as I unconsciously massage my forehead.
"Only if the Rajah asks the woman outside his administrative house. That way, Bagwis won't be able to stop him."
Jade laughs and Laya realizes what he said.
"Stop laughing, you moron!" Migo admonishes and hits Jade on the back of her shoulders. "You're the cause of all of this."
"I'm not!" she says but continues to laugh.
I turn my attention back to Renz. He's staring at Jade who does not look like she's forcing herself to laugh. God, that's tiring. I look at his clenched fist, his knuckles are starting to look white. The pitcher in front of him is also empty. How many glasses has he emptied since Jade came back to our table?
I sneer. I can't help it. He wants to hurt Jade, but he's also getting hurt in the process. My, he's kinda interesting, despite all his flaws. Is that the reason why Jade fell for him?
"Hi," I look at the voice. It's Cielo with a Babaylan.
Looking relieved, Renz looks up and his frown disappears. "I thought you still don't feel good to attend the Feast?"
"They said I can go if I'm with a Babaylan," she smiles and slides on the chair beside him. She notices his clenched fist. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong," Renz answers.
Cielo looks around but not knowing the exact reason, she reaches up to his hands and starts to loosen them. I lean my chin on my hands and unashamedly look at the two. They are looking at each other while Cielo's entwining her hands on his. It's like she's calming him down and she's doing such a great job.
In the background, I can hear Jade laughing, but it's not only me. Distracted, Renz is about to look back at the source of the laughter when Cielo's hands reach for his cheeks, caressing it gently, but in actuality, she's preventing him to move his eyes away from her.
Just as I thought, this girl is a good manipulator and the dumb guy does not even realize it.
Renz squints at her. I know he's still mad even with all Cielo's efforts, but it's working. Suddenly, her hands slide behind his neck, pull him down to her, and kiss him. It's a quick kiss but that single touch totally calms Renz down. And heck, I don't hear Jade's laughter anymore. Is she also watching this spectacle?
After my initial surprise, I lean my chin on my hands again. My, what a woman. Is this how she had successfully stolen him from Jade, huh? I can't imagine Jade doing this with everyone looking--that dare with Rajah Sinagtala is excluded. And what's with that smug look? Saying to Jade something on the line of, "Serves you right."?
"Hey! Do it again," Laya interjects. He's already beside me and mimicking my position. "Aren't you guys what Aian calls exhibitionists?" He is openly staring at the two.
Cielo flushes, but I wonder if that is not fake. Now, let's see how Jade will react to this. I look in her direction. Migo is standing up. He's carrying Jade who seems asleep in his arms. Her face is hidden and nuzzling on the crook of his neck.
I turn my attention to Renz. He is scowling at Jade and Migo. What kind of look is that? Do you want the two women running after you? Just choose one, that's crazy, man. This time, I laugh, uncontrollably. Renz looks at me and knowing what I am laughing about, he stands up, taking Cielo with him.
