chapter four
Yes this is another chapter on ‘the Heart is Broken’! I am really sorry I didn’t post on this last week. That’ll probably happen on at least one of my stories that I work on each week. Please enjoy.
Kiyoko’s pov
‘Will this boy ever stop doubting me?’ I thought to myself.
Sasuke stood a few feet from me glaring in my direction. It’s been like this since their mission and my patience is wearing thin. His glares at the back of my head are getting annoying. It’s obvious he’s the least I was looking forward to train.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Six days ago, we encountered with the sand ninja. The following day Kakashi and I told team 7 they would be taking the Chunin exams. As expected Naruto jumped on the messenger and wouldn’t let go.
“Stop drooling on my vest!” Kakashi ordered.
“Naruto, if you get off him we can tell you the rest.” I calmly stated.
He was pulled off by Sakura and sat on the concrete. His energy never decreased. Chuckling at his personality I composed myself once again.
“Now that everyone’s relaxed I’d like for you to hear the rest of my speech. The exams will be in seven days. It would be best to train some before they start and I asked Kiyoko if she could do that.”
A hand settled on my head in a kind manner. Two of the students immediately rejoiced but the last student didn’t look too happy. His eyes pierced mine in a threatening way that didn’t phase me at all. I’ve seen better glares from the ninjas I had to kill.
“The first three days Kiyoko and I will be training you together. The last three days Kiyoko will train each of you individually so you can master your skills. I sadly have some paper work I must do on those days.”
We all gave him a deadpanned face telling him we knew he was lying.
“We’ll start in the afternoon so you guys can go.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It wasn’t that hard training them. When the time was needed they had perfect team work. Naruto and Sakura’s individual skills weren’t that bad either. In fact, I was pleased to prepare them for the exams. They had the capability to actually pass. It was the final day before the beginning of the Chunin exams and the last one to train was Sasuke.
For some time he’s been unwilling to work with me. As soon as he came to the field he went off without me. I stayed out of his way and observed his methods. Even if he doesn’t want me teaching him I should supervise just in case. I would give him advice on his aim and he would ignore my being. It finally got to the point where I wanted answers.
“Why do you hate me so much?”
He continued to hit kunai.
“You judge me before getting to know me. Can you explain why that is?”
The only sounds were his target getting hit.
“Are you so much of a coward you can’t even talk to me?”
That last comment made him pause in his throwing. The glare he gave me was his most infuriated one yet. It almost made me flinch but I stopped myself. I wasn’t going to let him tower over me.
That’s how I got in this situation. We didn’t turn away from each other. Neither of us would give, it just meant the first one to give would be the weaker one. His menacing glare against my expressionless façade. I felt it was the right time to talk to him since he was facing me.
“Am I really that hard to get along with? The rest of your team has accepted me, yet you stay firm to your judgement. I’ve done nothing to you to make a bad impression of myself. Why is it that you glare at me with such hatred?”
The question hanged in the air. Sasuke looked to be concentrated in finding the right words to say to me, our eyes still connected. I’m curious to know how he got this way. His behavior isn’t much better with his team. Sure he talks to them a little more, but it’s usually an insult to Naruto or an arrogant remark. The vengeance in his eyes is clear to see. ‘To prove his existence’ is what it tells me.
But how did revenge come to be there? Was he always like this or did something change to make him the way he is now?
“I don’t like you in the village. You’re a distraction, Naruto hasn’t been able to concentrate and that hurts the squad. All those times Naruto screwed up in the small missions he was staring at you to make sure you were alright. You’re causing the team trouble.”
He’s lying. The way he speaks is laced with lies. There’s something beneath his words that just gives this feeling. He’s hiding the truth with a pretty good made up story. What is the real reason then?
“What’s the point in lying if it doesn’t work. Tell me the truth right now or I’ll make sure you won’t take the Chunin exams.” I threatened.
He scowled in annoyance.
“I don’t have to explain myself to you. If you can’t figure it out yourself then I overestimated your abilities.”
Overestimated? Wouldn’t that mean…..
“Are you angry cause you think I’m stronger than you?”
His fists clenched and glare intensified. I’ll take that as a yes.
“You’re brother was stronger than Zabuza we all saw it. After being trained by a jonin, you must be strong and at our age. I’m sure you also have that kekegenkai that Haku had. It means I’m not training hard enough and I’ll never be able to beat him.”
I wanted to ask him of who he was speaking of but, out of nowhere, he shot a kunai at me. I caught it in my hand and stared at him stunned.
“Fight me right here! I want to see if you match up to an Uchiha!”
He got in a fighting position waiting for me. His chakra intensified ready for battle. I changed my features back to a calm and collected style.
“I don’t need to waste my chakra on you. Get back to training.”
“Think of this as my training. I’m sure you spared with the others to see how good they were. Now it’s my turn.”
That was true. I had fought with Sakura and Naruto to see what level they were on. I had to hold back a lot of my strength and speed for them to keep up. Sasuke is a different story.
“Fine, if you want it that badly then I’ll fight you. I’m not holding back like I did with the others. Don’t hesitate to use your full capacity, otherwise you’ll be killed.”
A fog exploded from my body. In a matter of seconds, the entire field was surrounded in mist. Let’s see what you’ve got Sasuke Uchiha.
Sasuke’s pov
Isn’t this the Hidden Mist jutsu? Zabuza must’ve taught her all his moves. But this mist feels different. It made the climate change to a cold chill. My skin was getting goosebumps on my forearms. Her kekegenkai is fused with the jutsu. It’s making the fog more dense. I moved my hand to the front of my face and I could only see a slight blur. Even my hand is barely visiable.
I don’t understand. If you take a step into this haze you’ll be lost in an instant. That means even the user of the jutsu would get caught. Why would she play this if she couldn’t see herself?
“Your senses have lowered.” A voice whispered in my ear.
I swung my kunai backwards but I didn’t hear the target getting hit. Damn it, this isn’t helping my mind. I have to relax. A deep breath went in and out of my body.
Ok, now if I’m going to see at all, I’ll have to use everything I got. It’s just like she said, I’ll be killed if I hold back. I focused chakra into my eyes and I had no doubt the sharingan activated. I could see a few steps in front of me but not much. The sharingan should be able to see through this. What the hell is going on?
“The sharingan will do no good. This jutsu has surpassed my master’s original mist jutsu. Enhancing it with my own technique I’ve made it to the point of zero visibility. As for how I’m capable of seeing you, it’s very simple. If you can’t figure it out youself then I clearly overestimated your abilities.” She mocked using my words against me.
This is such a pain. My best trick and It’s doing nothing. No, I won’t let this girl beat me. I am an Uchiha, an avenger who’s goal is to kill my clan’s murderer. Before I do that I will face opponents who are stronger than me. I’ll defeat them first then go after him. This girl is another strong ninja. I will beat her!
My eyes widened and I could see farther off. I sense her prescence now. She was coming up behind me with a kunai. I performed the hand signs and turned around.
“Fireball jutsu!”
Flames flew right at her clearing the mist in it’s way. She dodged the direct impact but I did see a few strings of her hair get burned. I quickly threw shurican and kunai in her directon. One of the shurican hit her stomach and then she poofed away in a cloud of smoke. A clone?!
A kick to my chest sent me flying to a tree making me brake the bark. I sat there catching my breath and held my bleeding shoulder. The sharingan is taking it’s toll but just a little bit longer.
The mist was slowly evaporating. I could see Kiyoko walking up to me. From my sharingan I could tell it wasn’t a clone this time. She leaned down to be eye level with me.
“You got what you deserved. Being persistent about knowing my skill can get you injured like now. Let this be a lesson for you.”
I let a smirk show. “Hmph.”
I jumped up from my position and blew a Fireball jutsu right at her. She couldn’t dodge this time and it made a close ranged hit. I made this one more powerful and bigger. It engulfed her whole body in flames. When the jutsu was gone I saw her lying on the ground with burns everywhere. There were bald spots on her head from her hair being scorched. From the way she shaking it must’ve been really bad.
“You should never underestimate an Uchiha. Letting your guard down was the biggest mistake you ever did.”
She uttered some words but I couldn’t make them out. I cautiously knelt closer to her in case of a counter attack. She brought her chin up with difficulty.
“Y-You n-naïve boy.”
Her body suddenly turned to water after that. I jumped back in alarm. A water clone?! But when did she-
“If I allowed a genin of your standards to kill me then I shouldn’t be called a shinobi.”
I turned to where the voice came from. Kiyoko sat on a tree branch with her back against the trunk. My fists clenched beside me.
“How long have you been there? Did you create the clone when I got kicked?”
“I’ve been waching the entire time. I didn’t even cast the mist technique. That water clone you just destroyed did all the work. She even created that shadow clone you defeated earlier.”
What? That’s impossible. I made sure that was the real her but she’s right here in front of me. How was my sharingan wrong?
“Because of my kekegenkai that was fused with the mist jutsu, I can sense when any life force goes through it and locate them. That explains why I was able to find you so easily. The person captured in this mist has their abilities reduced, that is it’s second power. Although it takes some chakra to perform it.”
A jonin level technique that a water clone was able to do and still fight. They’re suppose to be one-tenth the strength of the original person. Have I not been training hard enough? I wasted all my energy on one clone. How hard could the real thing be?
She jumped from the branch in landed without a sound.
“You said you wouldn’t hold back.” I said.
“I only said that so you would believe that was my real strength. You understand now I’m out of your league. I will admit that water clone was two-tenths my power. If I hadn’t held back you would be dead.”
She reached out to my hurt shoulder and lightly put her hand on it. Green chakra emitted from her palm. She concentrated on the wound while I stared at her actions.
“Don’t get so upset over this. You do have talent, that water clone was more powerful than it should’ve been and you won against it. Be proud of that accomplishment. If you train harder I’m sure you’ll be able to beat three of my clones.”
The healing stopped and the only thing showing I was ever hurt was the blood on my shirt. The pain was gone. She started walking off to the village.
“Training is over. Good luck with the Chunin exams tomorrow. Make sure Naruto doesn’t cause too much trouble.”
I smirked at the little joke. I don't even think she realizes it. I might not trust her just yet, but it won’t kill me to give her a chance. She at least deserves that after helping me out.
“That’s too much to ask. That moron will probably get us kicked out before the exams begin.”
A noise sounding like wind chimes came out of her mouth. Did she just laugh? It was odd to hear something like that come from her but at the same time it was nice. Guess that idiot was right, she’ll start opening up pretty soon. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Kiyoko’s pov
The last couple of days have gone by in a blur. I heard Naruto had passed the first stage of the Chunin exams. Today they’ll be going in a forest for a week. The last time I saw them was their training session with me.
It’s time for me to begin my test as well. I was waiting in the same room as last time for the Hokage to arrive to give me the information. The whispers around the room got me sligthly irritated. My test had somehow gotten out and now jonin and chunin adults were here to see what challenge I would be doing, Kakashi being among them.
“Kiyoko step forward.”
I walked in front of the crowd and knelt in front of the Hokage. He was behind his desk with two other elders.
“Are you ready for your test Kiyoko? If you succeed then you will be known as a leaf ninja and we will not question your allegiance for the village.”
“I am ready for whatever you assign me Lord Hokage.”
This awful feeling. I’ve been having it all morning and it’s now rising. It has to do with the mission.
“There is a man named Raiko Sabura who needs to be eliminated. He is planning on destroying a small village in the Land of Water. He’s set out on revenge for what they did to his family. You must stop him by any means possible. You have until the end of this week to finish the mission.”
The whispers behind my back started again.
“A week to save a village?”
“I get that it’s small but a week won’t give her enough time.”
“She’ll fail the mission.”
“If we’re lucky she might die while finishing the job. The Leaf village won’t have to worry about her anymore.”
The last comment hurt a bit. The Land of Water. Does it have to do with the Mist village? I’ve always hated them because Zabuza-sama never liked them. No, he said a small village. That feeling is getting worse.
“Lord Hokage, what is the name of this small village?” I asked.
“The Yuki village.”
The hair on my neck stood up and I sucked in some air through my clenched teeth. The pit in my stomach never left but I knew why it was there in the first place. The Yuki village, it means Snow village.
My home land.
YES! That is her big mission! I know you guys have been asking about it and there it is. :D I’m really happy I did that. I hope this long chapter makes up for me missing last week. I was excited to write this. The bonding she did with Sasuke was nice and a cliffhanger. I’m so evil >:) MWUAHAHAHAH hope you liked it! Please comment, rate, message, and fan!
