**8 Years Later**
Astrid was sitting at her vanity brushing her long blonde hair and tying it up in a braid, when there was a knock on the door.
"Come in." She said calmly. The door opened and a couple of servants and Myra came in with a cart with all kinds of breakfast food and tea on it for the princess.
"Your Highness." The girls said in unison and bowed. Astrid smiled softly at them.
"Thank you. You may go." Astrid told them turning back to the mirror and pinning up loose pieces of her hair. The servants left and Myra closed the door. Astrid stood up and walked over to the tray getting her food and tea. Myra rushed over.
"I can get it for you." Myra told her and Astrid lifted a croissant to her mouth.
"Myra, I'm capable of feeding myself and making a plate. You know I don't expect you to do much, I see you more as a friend then anything." Astrid reminded her ladies-maid. Then took a bite of the warm croissant. Myra smiled at her.
"You have your lessons in about twenty minutes. History, Latin, French, Spanish, Reading, Writing, and then your lunch will be in the dining room today with your parents and sister. As per their request. After lunch, your afternoon training session, will be in the training room and grounds with-"
"Hiccup!" Astrid finished for Myra. Blushing slightly after. Myra smiled at her and nodded.
"Yes, he got permission to make your lessons longer. Which is why all your other lessons are now in the morning. That way you still have evenings free." Myra told her. Astrid smiled.
"I would train all day with him if I could." Astrid said grabbing some fruit off the tray. She opened her wardrobe and started shifting through her gowns. Her basic, everyday ones. Her other more lavish gowns were kept in other area of her suite. They basically had a room to themselves because of how big they were, the same room held all of her more lavish jewelry and shoes; even her crowns she wore for parties were in there. Her official crown was kept in the throne room on top of a blue velvet cushion next to her seat on the platform.
Astrid grabbed her light blue gown and the matching flat shoes and laid them on her bed. Myra had opened a drawer and grabbed a corset for Astrid as well. She hated wearing them, but she wouldn't be caught dead without one on. Not when her mother checked to make sure she was wearing it during her lessons. Astrid undressed and Myra helped her put on the corset before helping her with her gown and doing up the buttons for her. Myra noticed something on Astrid's neck.
"What did you do to your neck?" Myra asked her. Astrid put her hand to the spot she knew Myra saw, her eyes widening.
"Nothing. I thought I covered it up." Astrid told her. When Myra finished tying the sash around Astrid's middle, Astrid went back to her vanity grabbing her powder to blot of the spot. It looked like a bruise. Astrid finished covering it when there was a knock on her door. Myra went over and opened it.
"Your Highness." Myra said bowing to the Queen. Queen Ragna nodded at the girl and Myra stood in her stance by the wall. Head down and hands crossed over each other in front of her. Astrid hated seeing Myra, or any of the servants standing like that. Like a submissive worker to their master. Wouldn't dare move or talk or make a sound in the presence of a Royal without risking being punished for it. The punishment could be as simple as being scolded, or being slapped across the face, to being whipped or even killed. Astrid was staring at Myra, when she heard her mothers voice snap her out of her thoughts.
"-trid. Don't look at her. She's not talking to you. I am. Your Queen and your mother." Ragna said to her daughter. Astrid looked at her mother.
Typical of her mother to refer to herself as a Queen to her own daughter. Astrid was convinced she was adopted most days, but the likeness of her and her mother, stated otherwise.
"Now, you are not wearing your hair like that. You're a princess." Her mother crooned sitting Astrid down at her vanity and beginning to undo the braid. Astrid sighed.
"Mom, I like my hair in a braid, it keeps it off my face." Astrid told her mother. Her mother ignored her and pulled on Astrid's shoulders making her sit up straight with her shoulders back.
"A princess should never slouch, even if she's alone. You know that. You have your corset on right? Is it done up properly? Did your ladies maid tighten it enough." Her mother continued as she brushed her daughters long blonde hair. "You know, I don't know why the Royal Guard asked for more training time for you. You spent enough time in there as it was."
"I only trained for an hour, two at the most when able." Astrid winced slightly while her mother yanked on some of her hair.
"Don't talk back to me. I'm your queen." Her mother crooned. Astrid wasn't sure how, but she managed not to roll her eyes. Her mother pulled Astrid's hair back into a half-updo, adding one of Astrid's hairclips that matched her dress. "Besides, a future queen should be focusing on her language and history and reading studies. Not training for battle."
"I like it. It helps me focus." Astrid told her mother. Astrid also enjoyed it because it let her not be a princess for a while. She could wear pants and shirt and boots, with her hair tied up. She could use pretty much any weapon, but she favored axes. If she really admitted to herself, she loved spending the time with Hiccup. It was the only scheduled time they got together. Everything else was sneaking around after hours in their free time, trying not to get caught. They'd only really started being serious with each other recently. Astrid lost herself in thought, remembering when Hiccup first kissed her.
He had brought her to an open field under the stars and convinced her to dance with him. Astrid remembered how beautiful it was, the night, the sky, everything. She adored him. His bright green eyes, his soft auburn hair.
She loved training with him. She wasn't lying, it did help her focus and get out of her head about all her royal duties she had. But, if they were working hard enough, or it was hot enough outside. Once in a while Astrid would find Hiccup without his shirt on. She would do her best to keep her focus, but it definitely made it a lot harder. She had a feeling Hiccup knew that too.
"Alright, lets go." She heard her mother say, grabbing her attention from her thoughts about Hiccup. Astrid stood up. Allowed her mother to leave the room first and put a hand on Myra's wrist as a silent thank you. Astrid left her room and headed to her lessons for the day.
