Chapter Six
A new start for Shyra and for meeting new people.
Everyone deserves happiness even if it's just for a while. But what if the past gets in your way? Do you let it get to you or push it aside and focus on the happiness that they deserve?
After what seemed like hours Shyra was finally at her destination. The place where she would be safe for the time that she would attend university. The only thing that's worrying her is her girls.
They would be more than worried about her, especially after what happened to her almost a year ago.
When she walked out of the airport, Shyra saw a board with her name on it. She couldn't help but smile knowing that this was all Uncle Aayan's doing.
She walked towards the person holding the board, it was a female driver.
Alhamdulillah thank you Aunt Hayat. You are truly an angel.
"Asalam Aleikum, are you my driver?" Shyra asks the person holding the board.
"Waleikum salaam, yeah I am. Are you, Shyra Adam?" The driver asks her with a smile on her face.
Shyra nods with a smile on her face.
"My name is Raya and I will be your driver. Please come with me," Raya says to her while taking Shyra's bag.
They walk toward the car and Raya puts the bags inside while Shyra gets in the car.
In shaa Allah I will be fine. And I just want to make my parents proud of me.
Meanwhile, everyone back home was trying to find where Shyra went especially after they all read the letters that she had left in their bags.
In the letters, Shyra told them that it wasn't goodbye and that she would be back when she was strong enough.
But Aayan, Zahir, and Zain plus their wives know where she is but they made a promise to her that they would keep it a secret as long as she needed.
"Iman, you need to ask your mother, maybe she knows where Shyra is..."
"Hanan, I asked her so many times and yet she doesn't know where our Shyra could be. Why don't we call her to ask where she is staying?" Iman suggested while taking her phone to do what she said.
The phone started ringing and Iman put it on speaker so that all the other girls would hear what Shyra had to say to them.
"Asalam Aleikum..."
"Shyra, where are you? We are worried here because you just disappeared even before getting your diploma..."
"Guys, stop. I can explain but please don't get angry at me. I needed to get away from there until I was ready to get them. But for now, I need you girls to trust me and let me do this for myself. Don't worry I will always keep in contact with you on calls, emails, and even text messages. I love you, my sisters. But I have one more request, don't tell Samir about what happened to me because I don't want him to know", Shyra explains to them trying to keep her voice intact as tears were threatening to fall on her face.
They all listened to her but deep down they knew that Shyra would need more than calls from them.
"But Shyra, calls and messages aren't enough for us. We need video calls and they should be almost daily," Iman says to her, making Shyra laugh.
"Okay, also video calls. But for now, I need to go to the apartment so that I can settle in and Saira, don't let him go", Shyra says to them trying to hold her emotions inside as she didn't want Raya to ask her what was happening.
Shyra tells them that she will talk to them later and then hangs up the call.
After that phone call the girls needed not to worry a lot about Shyra. They knew that she was a courageous girl.
Raya knew as soon as she saw Shyra that she would need more than a driver. She was happy that Aayan and Hayat hired her as Shyra's driver.
After arriving at the apartment that Uncle Aayan had bought for her even though she specifically asked him not to.
But he was adamant about helping Shyra as Aayan promised her father before the accident that killed him and his wife.
"Thank you, Raya. You can go now..."
"But I was told to be your driver for the time that you live in this town?" Raya tells her surprising Shyra.
"But I won't be needing your services because the university that I am going to is just across the street. And I don't even have to take a bus or even a car to get there," Shyra explained to Raya who nodded. "How about this? If I need you, I will definitely call you and you can drive me to where I want to go?" She added making Raya smile taking the card that had her number.
"Okay, that isn't a bad idea. Take care of yourself, Shyra. And don't hesitate to call me for anything that you might need," Raya says, leaving Shyra alone in the apartment after she got inside, that's when she left Shyra.
Raya called Aayan and explained everything that happened until the part where Shyra got a call from her friends.
They helped Raya and her family during the worst times of their lives especially when they had no one.
"Okay, Raya. Thank you for everything..."
"You don't need to say thank you all the time, Mr. Muhsin. I owe you my family's life and I would help you in many ways. So I will treat her as if she were my daughter," Raya says, making Aayan and Hayat smile knowing that they trusted the best person to help Shyra.
Alhamdullilah.
"Okay, and your family is waiting for you at your new apartment," Aayan tells her and then hangs up the call.
Raya looked at the closed door and smiled sadly knowing that whatever Shyra has been going through will pass when she is ready to let people who will help her inside her life.
Meanwhile, inside the apartment, Shyra was beyond shocked to see that it was fully furnished. She shook her head and mentally thanked Aayan and Hayat for doing this for her.
They were angels that everyone will need in their lives especially when they will people without getting something in return.
Shyra put her bags in the room and then walked toward the kitchen. She was beyond shocked to see that it was fully furnished and that there were groceries in the kitchen.
This is the work of Aunt Hayat and Uncle Aayan. And I won't forget about Aunt Sameera. I hope and pray that this nightmare will soon be over. Alhamdullilah.
Shyra walked back to her room to unpack and maybe make dinner but before all that she needed to send a group message to the girls with her new number as she didn't want Samir to find her.
Thankfully, Shyra had little belongings as she left everything that her aunt had bought for her. As she didn't want anything that came from that family.
So when her classes would start, Shyra would go and do some shopping for her new wardrobe but she would need to call Raya as she had those feelings that hadn't left her, especially the trauma she had faced almost a year ago.
After unpacking her few belongings in her room, Shyra went back to the kitchen to make dinner or in her case a snack as she was tired.
As soon as Shyra opened one of the cupboards, she found something that didn't take long to make.
Ramen noodles.
This is all thanks to Aunt Sameera.
Shyra started preparing it and then took it to the living room to eat.
The next day, Shyra went to the university offices to log in as a student there before anyone took her place as she didn't do that, her slot would be given to someone else. Because she was placed as one of the first students in the class, Shyra had no choice but to register for the classes the next day and not a week after receiving the acceptance letter like other students.
Her major was none other than business, just her father. Shyra always wanted to take over her father's company when he retired but now that's just a dream that might never happen especially after what happened to her parents.
As the days went by, Shyra adjusted to living alone in her apartment and having Raya as her only friend who would appear when she needed help with going to the grocery or even clothes shopping.
She was grateful to Aayan and Hayat for their thinking especially after what she had gone through in the past.
"Ya Allah, I am going to be so late today..."
Shyra couldn't even finish what she was saying when a young girl bumped into her making both of them fall into each other's arms.
"Omph"!!
"I am sorry..."
Shyra gets up and helps the little girl who is wearing a school uniform with a hijab. She didn't look older than ten years old.
"No, I am. I didn't see where I was going plus Dad was late to take me to school so I was rushing to get to the elevator, plus he is waiting downstairs in the lobby," says the little girl who dusted herself trying to remove the dust from her uniform.
"Are you alright? Here let me help you," Shyra says, offering her a handkerchief for her to wipe her glasses as they were dusty.
"Thank you. I think we need to go before Dad goes mad and starts looking for me everywhere," the little girl says while walking toward the elevator.
Shyra followed her and smiled as she thought of the girl's parents. They must be so proud of how grown up she is.
As soon as the elevator door opened they both walked inside and Shyra pressed the button for the bottom floor.
"My name is Ayra and what's yours?" She asked Shyra who was surprised as her name sounded just like hers.
"My name is Shyra, nice to meet you..."
Before Shyra could even say another sentence, the elevator's doors open and the two of them step out.
"Ayra, where did you go?" A voice says while they walk outside the elevator.
Shyra looked up to see a young man who looked about two years older than her. Instead of waiting, she walked out of the elevator before the man approached her.
I wish that I didn't have to be like this. Or even feel like this especially when I will be in a mixed class. Ya Allah, what do I do?
She walked away but not before the guy noticed her being in a hurry making her drop a book that she was holding.
Her name was written in bold letters on the cover.
"Shyra Adam".
Beautiful name. Ma Shaa Allah.
"Dad, come on. We will be late, and remember that I need to go to Mama and Papa's house after school," Ayra says to her dad while pulling him out of the building. "And you will be late for your first day at university, right?" she asks while waiting for him to open the door of the car so she can get inside the car.
"Yes, Ma'am. Now we need to go before your teacher calls me and tells me that you are late," he says to her and then gets into the car driving her to school.
But he couldn't take his mind off the girl who walked out of the elevator before Ayra could even say bye to her.
He wanted to ask Ayra who that girl was but decided against it as he didnt want his daughter to go and tell his parents about him asking about her.
