Chapter One.

Shyra Adam

Shyra Adam was a happy sixteen-year-old teenager who had everything planned but some plans didn't work out the way the person wanted.

It was a Monday morning when Shyra's mother Anisa could be seen in the kitchen finishing making breakfast for her husband and daughter.

Meanwhile, Shyra was sleeping and couldn't hear the alarm ring. That's when her mother decided to wake her up.

Anisa walked upstairs to her daughter's room and knocked on the door.

"Shy, come on. You are going to be late for school," her mother yells at her, making Shyra wake up from her slumber.

She turned to look at the clock beside her bed to see that it was about thirty minutes left before she got to school.

"Crap, stupid alarm. You didn't even ring..."

Shyra got up from the bed and went to the bathroom to take a shower. She dislikes it when the alarm doesn't work even though she is the one who has set it.

"Shy, your gang's here waiting for you," her mother Anisa yells at her making her trip and almost falling.

"I am coming, mamma. Tell them to wait for one second..."

Shyra didn't even finish what she was saying when her gang came barging into her room making her trip the stairs again.

"This is no time to lie down, Shy. Otherwise, we will be late for the upcoming test that might happen today," Hanan tells her, taking her hand with hers.

"Thank you, unlike these baboons here who are just laughing at me..."

"Hey"

"What tell me if I am lying?" Shyra asks her friends who just shook their heads knowing that they shouldn't mess with her, especially in the mornings.

"Okay, that's enough. It's time for the bus to arrive," Saira tells them while looking at the time.

"Yes, let's go," Shyra says while taking her bag and following the girls out of her room.

"No time for breakfast girls. But I packed some snacks to eat on the bus," Anisa Shyra's mother tells the girls, handing them the packed snacks.

"Thank you, mamma. Love you and Dad so much," all the girls tell her, making her smile.

All the girls call each other's mothers' mamma and their fathers' dad. It has always been like this ever since they were young.

"Okay, go. And..."

"We know, do your best, don't make mistakes", Saira tells her. "You always tell us, Dad. Bye," she added, dragging Hanan and Iman's hands while Shyra was doing the same with Hannah.

"Alhamdullilah, they are together. May Allah always keep them this way no matter what. I pray that they will always stay together in their best, worst, and even great times," Shyra's dad Adam tells his wife.

"In Shaa Allah. Now, I have to go to work. Call me if you ever need anything," he says, kissing her forehead and walking out of the house.

In the coming weeks, it was finally Shyra's seventeenth birthday which was celebrated by everyone who knew her.

She was turning seventeen and almost on her way to her final year of high school making her a few months older than the other girls.

"So you are finally seventeen. Any requests?" her friends ask her.

They usually make a special present for each other's birthday.

"Nothing, just that Dad won't be late this time..."

"Habibty, I promise that I will be there, okay?" her father interrupts them walking into her room with a smile on his face.

"Dad, don't promise. Just say in shaa Allah. And don't worry about it. Besides, I want a present from you. And that's a cute adorable cat," Shyra tells her father who smiles knowing cats have always been her favorite.

"Okay, Habibty. In shaa Allah," he says, kissing each girl's forehead. "Now girls do your homework," he added, leaving them alone in the room.

"I feel bad that he heard us. I know that he is working hard to get an important business deal and I..."

"Shy, listen. He loves you and will do anything for you. And he knows that you feel bad. And he wants what is best for you", Hanan tells her, making her smile.

But what Shyra didn't know was someone was planning on destroying the happiness they had. Jealousy and greed will destroy Shyra's life and take away the people she loves and it would hurt her more than anything.

Meanwhile, her father had gone to visit Aayan to ask him to do something for him in case someone tried to harm him and his family.

Adam trusted Aayan more than his brother.

"Are you sure you want me to do this?" Aayan asks him.

"Yes, you are the only friend I know and trust when it comes to this matter. I know that you will do what I need you to do. This is for Shyra. She needs to be reassured that we will always be there for her no matter what happens to us," Adam tells Aayan who understands what he is talking about.

Aayan knew that what Adam wanted was more than his trust, he wanted him to protect Shyra against the people who would do anything to get what they wanted and that is wealth.

Aayan agreed to help Adam with whatever he needed and promised to look after his family if anything happened to him.

The day of Shyra's birthday arrived and everyone was there except her parents who were late from their meeting.

They were already in the car on their way to get Shyra's present when Adam noticed something was wrong with the car brakes.

He turned to face his wife who smiled at him not knowing that this might be their last day to see their daughter.

"Habibty, there's something I want to tell you. The breaks aren't working and I can't seem to stop the car," he tells his wife and then he sees someone following them.

Adam immediately knew that they were in the other car to make sure that the job was done.

"I know that they are the ones behind this. It is okay, I know that what's to come is the best thing for our daughter. She needs to be safe..."

"I made sure of that. I love you, Habibty," he tells his wife while trying to avoid other cars.

"And I love you more, Habiby", she answers him as he loses control of the car and drives it to the river.

"Is it done?" someone asks as they look at the car being submerged in the water.

"Yes, it is. Now it is time to take back what's mine and that's the company and everything he owns," they answered back smirking.

But what they don't know is that Adam knew that this would happen, so he did everything to protect his daughter from anyone who tried to harm her.

Shyra was waiting for her parents to arrive when she heard a knock on the door.

As she was about to open it, someone beat her to it.

"Yes, how may I help you?"Aayan asks the police who were at the door.

"I am sorry to have to inform you that we found a car and two dead bodies. They are Adam and his wife..."

"No, no. Please tell me you are lying. Please tell me that it's a joke..."

Shyra broke down while Hayat held her in her arms trying to calm her down.

But this was her parents. The people that Shyra thought would always be there for her.

Everything changed that day, Shyra received the worst news of her life. But what she didn't know was that something worse was about to come to her life and it would test who would be there for her and who would run away from her.

It was supposed to be her birthday but it turned out to be the worst day of her life and she will never be able to forget it.

Not everyone who smiles is happy for you, not everyone who laughs is laughing with you. No one knows what is inside one's heart. Don't expect anything from people who are fake especially when you will need them when you are in trouble.
