Chapter Eight.

Nightmares That Would Never Go Away {Part one}

Nightmares can be caused by someone or something but they are always going to teach us something to never forget and that is don't put your trust in someone who will end up breaking it without caring about what happens to you.

Each time Shyra tries to avoid Imran, he doesn't let that happen. This was starting to irritate her especially when Shyra couldn't stand being near him or any guy in class but she had to endure it because of how the university works for the students.

"Could you just stop trying to be my friend?" Shyra asks Imran who wasn't even fazed at what she was asking him. "Never mind, I will just change seats with someone else," she added trying to get up from her chair but stopped when she saw the professor walking into the class.

Imran couldn't help but shake his head and he knew this wouldn't be the first nor the last time that Shyra would try this again. Especially when Shyra was determined to never get close to him even after classes had ended and Imran needed to know why she was behaving like someone who was being abused by someone.

Imran wasn't someone to just stay down whenever he saw something like this happening to good people who don't deserve to but are abused by monsters who will pretend to be friends or even family members.

Shyra couldn't get the thought that she needed to get away from Imran before he turned out to be the same.

She trusted him when he broke it and also broke her. But now she has to be cautious of who she gives her trust to even if it is a classmate or anyone she meets outside of her apartment and school.

After the last class of the day, Shyra decided to get some coffee and cinnamon buns at her favorite cafe for her dinner as she wasn't in the mood to make anything.

Shyra walked to the cafe as it was two blocks away from where she lived. It was a good exercise for her especially when she needed to stop thinking about how things are at home.

She walked inside and was greeted by one of the waitresses Lina as she had become a regular at the cafe ever since she came into town.

"Hey Shyra, the usual?" Lina asks with a smile on her face.

"Yes, please, and thank you," Shyra answered her while returning the same smile. "But could you pack them to go, I am too lazy to cook," she added making Lina giggle.

"Fine, I will do. You do deserve a timeout once in a while," Lina says to Shyra.

She then leaves to go to get Shyra's order ready for her. But Shyra couldn't shake the feeling that something bad was going to happen or would happen.

It was the same feeling she had when that fateful night happened at her aunt's house.

But Shyra decided to think positive thoughts to get the negativity out of her. And she started praying for some Duas that her parents had taught her in her time of need.

After five minutes, Lina comes back with Shyra's order. She pays and thanks Lina.

Shyra then walks out of the cafe and starts walking in the direction of where her apartment is located when she hears a voice behind her.

"Hey there, what are you doing out so late?"

Shyra didn't dare turn her face back to see who it was, she started walking faster while the person behind her started matching her steps.

Ya Allah, please send someone to save me this time. Help me ya Allah.

Shyra prayed as she ran as fast as she could but tripped on a stone making her fall on the ground.

"So you think you could outrun us? Think again, sweetheart," one of the men says while slurring.

It seems they were drunk beyond recognition and smelt bad.

"Please stay away from me. I will give you whatever you want but please don't hurt me," Shyra begged for life while the men laughed at her.

Meanwhile, Imran was out because Ayra wanted to have some donuts to take to class the next day. And she was adamant on making him order them and then they would take them the next morning.

"The things I do for this girl, sometimes I wonder who is the parent, me or her?" I mean he asked himself as he got out of the bakery.

He didn't take the car because it was close to where he lived with Ayra.

As Imran was walking he couldn't help but hear someone crying and asking people to stop. He ran as quickly as he could and when he reached the place. He saw a woman on the ground surrounded by two drunk men.

As he got closer, his heart dropped when he saw the face of the woman. It was Shyra.

Tears ran down her face and she was shaking while one of the men was trying to approach her.

"Hey stop right there. The police are on their way," Imran shouted at the two men but they were unbothered by what he was telling them.

So he took the matter in his hands and walked toward them.

Imran stood in front of them protecting Shyra.

"Leave now or I won't be held responsible for what I am about to do," Imran warned them one last time. But the two men didn't care what he would do. "Fine, don't say I didn't warn you," he added as he punched the first guy on his stomach, making him drop to the ground groaning.

The other guy got pissed when he saw his friend on the floor. So he started throwing punches at Imran who avoided and kicked him, making him fall.

Imran didn't stop there as all the anger he felt for what happened appeared when he saw the face of the person who ruined someone important in his life and started beating the two men without caring about the consequences.

"Stop please," he heard a faint voice telling him.

He then turned around to see traumatised Shyra who was holding herself while shaking her head.

Imran slowly approached her and kneeled in front of her. He then took a deep breath and put his hand on her shoulder making her jump.

"Don't worry I won't hurt you. I promise that I won't hurt you," he tells her, trying to calm her down. "Come on and let me get you home..."

Shyra stood up but didn't let him near her as she was still scared of the fact that he might try and hurt her like the two men and him.

"If you don't want me to be near you, I will just walk beside you, okay," Imran tells her while moving away.

But the moment Shyra started taking a small step that's when she realized that her ankle might be broken or even fractured from the fall.

"What's wrong?" Imran's worried voice asks her.

"I...I can't walk...my ankle might be hurt," she tells him stammering to put the words together.

"Why don't I call an Uber?" He asks her. "This way it would be safer," he added, surprising her.

Shyra didn't understand why Imran was helping her but she was thankful that Allah had heard her prayer and sent someone to help her in the time of her need.

She slowly nodded, making him take his phone to order Uber.

In about five minutes Uber arrived and Imran opened the passenger door for Shyra to get in the car while he got into the front as he didn't want to make her feel unsafe.

Imran gave the driver their building address and then started the car.

Alhamdulillah, I was right on time. I should thank Ayra for making me go out to order the donuts even though they are for tomorrow afternoon and not morning. Alhamdulillah, she is safe.

Imran made a small prayer thanking Allah for sending him to where Shyra was otherwise, he didn't even want to think about it.

He looked at the mirror to see Shyra fidgeting and trying to calm herself down.

Why doesn't she want help or even friends? I don't know why but I will help you and even be your friend but I can't force you, especially when you trust me.

After ten minutes the Uber arrived at the building and Imran paid him while Shyra got out of the car.

Thankfully, the apartment building has an elevator because it would have been bad if it didn't.

Both of them walked inside the building.

"Thank you, I will pay you back for the Uber..."

"No need to do that. I am always happy to help", Imran tells her. He then pressed the elevator button for it to come down.

As soon as it opened they both walked inside, and Imran stood behind her trying to give her the space that she wanted.

"Which floor?" Shyra asks him.

"Fourth floor," he answers, surprising her because they were both going on the same floor.

Shyra pressed the fourth-floor button and took a deep breath.

"I promise that I won't hurt you, Shyra. I am not that person, I have seen someone important to me go through something worse in their lives and I blame myself every day for not helping them. But Allah knows why he sent me your way. I am not and won't force you to be my friend but if you ever need someone to just talk to, I am here," Imran tells her. "Plus, I have a daughter and I don't want anything to happen to her. She is my world," He added, smiling.

"Thank you for saving my life, and for being there on time, "Shyra tells him.

Then the elevator came to their floor and stopped. Once the doors opened, Imran waited for her to get off because he didn't want to make her uncomfortable.

Shyra got out and walked on her right side making Imran surprised at the same time because his apartment was also where she was heading.

"I am not following you..."

"I know. I saw your daughter a few days ago this way," Shyra says to him walking up to the apartment that was opposite his.

Imran waited until she got into her apartment and then he opened the door on his own.

He was met by his worried daughter who was sitting on the couch while reading the Quran.

"Ayra, shouldn't you be asleep?" He asked the little girl who jumped out of her seat and placed the Quran on the table and ran towards him to hug him.

"I was worried. Where were you? You couldn't even call to say you will be late..."

Imran watched as his daughter paced around the living room rumbling about how insensitive he was for not telling her that he would be late.

"Ayra, would you please calm down? So that I can explain to you what happened?" He asks her while taking her hand and taking her to one of the couches to sit.

Imran explained to her but not in detail what had happened to him and Shyra.

After he was done explaining to his daughter Ayra.

"How is she, Dad? Will she be okay?" She asks him as her voice starts to break.

"I think..."

Before Imran could even finish what he was saying they both were interrupted by a loud noise that was coming next door to their apartment.

"Shyra"!
