François Peete doesn't want to hear a thing about Sienna.

He hangs up on me.

I don't have anymore coins, so I turn around to leave.

Sienna is standing right there.

She smiles her sinister smile at me, and then she waves at me.

I wave back at her.
She disappears.

My nose begins to bleed that very second.

"I told you to leave it alone, didn't I?" Kagiso says, shaking his head at me.

I press the hem of my school shirt to my nose.

Kagiso just shakes his head at me.

We sneak back onto school property in silence.

"We need to talk." Kagiso sighs as we enter the playground.

"About what?" My nose is still bleeding, so the words come out a little distorted.

"I have a theory." He says, leading me towards a shady tree.
He basically collapses down.
I sit down next to him.

"Are you familiar with the tokoloshe?" He asks slowly.

Everyone in South Africa has probably heard the word tokoloshe at least once.

"It's like a ghost, right?" I ask.

Kagiso nods yes and then shakes his head.

"It's like a ghost, but it's much worse." He says slowly.

"What could be worst than a ghost?" I frown and pick up a leaf that has fallen onto the ground. I tear it up into tiny pieces.

"A tokoloshe." Kagiso says seriously.

"How come?" I ask.

"Well, a ghost is a ghost. A spirit lost in transit. A tokoloshe, on the other hand, is something that one can create." Kagiso is creeping me out, but I try not to show it. I don't want him to feel bad for trying to help me.

"How do you create a tokoloshe?" I ask slowly, trying to ignore the goosebumps on my arms.

"It's a difficult process, but mostly you just get a corpse and mutilate it in a ritualistic manner." He says simply.

"That's awful!" I yell. My nose is still bleeding. An ocean of blood.

"Yeah." Kagiso says sadly.

"So what's your theory?" I ask after a moment.

"I believe that S was used to create a tokoloshe, but something went wrong in the process." He doesn't call Sienna by her name, he refers to her as S.

"Well, what can we do?" I ask, wiping the blood from my nose into my forearm.

"I was hoping you'd know." Kagiso says desperately.

Alissa is different after the exorcism. She seems a little more like herself. She hasn't tried to kill me in my sleep again, so that's an improvement. I still catch her glaring at me, though. It's unsettling.

Kagiso and I have made a plan.
We live within a five minute walk of each other's houses.

We've planned to meet up at midnight by the stop sign half way between his house and mine.
Kagiso didn't tell me the entire plan, but he told me to pack lavender blossoms, matches, toilet paper, water and a strong flash light into my backpack.

I don't sleep in the same room as Alissa anymore.

I sleep in the living room after she tried to kill me, and as a safety measure mom and dad lock her into her bedroom at night.

Sneaking out should be easy, we've only lived here for a few weeks and we haven't had the chance to install a security alarm yet.

I have a hard time staying awake until midnight, so I drink one of dad's RedBulls.

My parents go to bed relatively early, usually at about 9pm.

I lay in my pullout couch bed and wait for midnight.
It's a long wait.
It's an eternity.
I keep a lamp on, but that doesn't stop Sienna from sitting in the armchair across from my bed and watching me.

"How's it going?" I ask quietly.

"I want you dead." She smiles.
Tonight she has slits on her legs and no eyeballs.

"Why?" I whisper, feeling creeped out.
She considers this for a second before answering.

"You're too close." She walks towards my bed slowly.

Too close to what?

"Don't hurt me, please." I beg, cowering under my covers.

She sits down on my bed.

She stays seated until midnight, when I grab my backpack and crawl out of the living room window.

She follows me.

I begin to wonder if this was such a good idea.

"Have you ever killed before?" I ask Sienna.
Sienna walks next to me and smiles her sinister smile.

"Maybe." She shrugs.

We remain silent for the rest of the walk.
Kagiso is already at the stop sign.

"Why is she with you?" He asks, looking confused.

I don't answer, because I don't know the answer.

"You talked to her, didn't you?" Kagiso asks, sounding angry.

I nod.

"Don't you know you're not supposed to talk to a tokoloshe?" He shakes his head aggressively.

How was I to know?

"You know that I'm here, right?" Sienna asks Kagiso.

Kagiso doesn't talk to her.

"Let's just get going, okay?" He tells me, averting his eyes from Sienna.

I nod and follow Kagiso down the street.

Sienna walks next to me.

"Where are we headed?" Sienna asks. Blood pours out of her eye sockets as she talks.

"Don't talk to her, Millie!" Kagiso hisses.

We walk until we arrive at a large, blue house.
Kagiso pulls a picture out of his pocket and compares it with the house.

"I used to live here, you know." Sienna says casually.

"Don't talk to her!" Kagiso shouts at me.

"François used to live over there." She points to the house next door.

"Maybe she can help us." I tell Kagiso.

"She's evil." Kagiso shakes his head at me for the fifth thousand time today.

"I'm not leaving." Sienna says sternly.

"If I die tonight, it's all your fault." Kagiso says to me.

Then he turns around to Sienna.

"Hi." He says to her.

"I know where you want to go." She says.

Kagiso looks at her for a long moment before he nods.

"I'll take you there." She smiles her sinister smile.

Kagiso nods at her.
Sienna leads the way.

We walk all the way down the street until we reach the fencing for the field behind the houses.

"Climb." Sienna gestures for us to climb the fencing.

Kagiso goes first.
I go next and scrape my palms a little.
Sienna climbs over the fencing next.

I didn't know she has to do climbing, I thought she could just pass through it.

We walk and walk until we reach a big tree.

"Let's rest, kids." Sienna says as she sinks down into the grass.

Kagiso shoots me daggers as he sits down.

"Why do you go around tormenting everyone?" Finally, I ask the question that's been on my mind for all this time.

"No one in this town cared enough about me to search harder. I was being held captive less than four kilometers from my house. François didn't try to save me. I'm not leaving here until I get justice." She whispers.

Kagiso just watches carefully.

I don't respond, I just sit and absorb the silence.

"François and I used to sneak away all the time and hang out here." Sienna says as we get up.

Then she points to one of the houses.
"Your mom and I used to play in the backyard all the time." She says sadly.

My mom?
When did my mom ever play with Sienna Franklin?
Wouldn't she have told me about that?

"How did you know my mom?" I ask.

Sienna is quiet for a long, long time.

"She was my sister." She finally answers.
