Melissa

Mom and dad want to call a priest in.
It's funny how people only need God when things start to go wrong.

Kagiso says that we should need God all the time.

"uNkulunkulu wants us to reach out all the time." Kagiso says as he swings slowly on the swing next to me.

My mom is running late to pick me up and so is Kagiso's lift club driver.

In many ways, Kagiso has become my best friend. After moving here, I never thought I'd have another best friend like I did back in Joburg.

"Why does she do this?" I ask quietly.

"Because she can't find peace." Kagiso says simply.

Kagiso always spoke about how important it was for people to die in peace and the importance of finding peace before death.

I've heard dad yell at mom before, asking her to just let him die in peace.

I thought it was just an expression.

I've heard of people 'resting in peace'.

But she doesn't rest in peace, because she didn't die in peace.

After Ali tried to kill me in my sleep a few nights ago, I've been doing my research.

Dad told me her first name.

Kagiso told me her last name.

For the past few days, during break time, I go to the computer room and start Googling.

Sienna Franklin

I type quickly and purposefully.

There aren't many results.
Probably because she went missing so long ago.
After many searches, I eventually find a blog listing twenty seven of South Africa's most popular urban legends.

Sienna is number thirteen.

The Haunting of Sierra:

In 1984, seventeen year old Sienna Franklin went missing. The teen was first believed to have absconded. As time went on, it was discovered that the teen was abducted. Witness François Peete says that he last saw Sienna being dragged into a field by a middle aged man. The small town of Sierra has not been the same since Sienna's disappearance. Many residents of the town have claimed to have seen the ghost of Sienna Franklin. Almost all of the reports speak of a young, thin girl dressed in nothing but a dirty, white button down shirt. It has been reported that a small amount of residents of the town of Sierra have supposedly suffered demonic possession. Many priests and traditional healers believe that the possessions were brought on by the unsettled spirit of Sienna Franklin. Many residents of the town of Sierra refrain from saying Sienna's name, as they believe that it will summon her. Sienna's captor was never identified or found.

I don't breathe at all as I read the blog post.

"What if we brought her killer to justice?" I ask Kagiso the next day during break time.

"We don't know who killed her. No one does." He shrugs.

"Can't you like, ask the ancestors or something?" I frown.

"You know nothing about my culture, do you?" He shakes his head.

"No, but you do. Isn't there something you can do?" I am restless.

"Let me think, alright?" He runs his hands over his smooth head.

Alissa has her moments.
Some good, some bad.
Mostly bad.

She glares at me as we do our homework in the kitchen.
Mom sneaks up behind Alissa and puts a gold crucifix around her neck.
Alissa kicks and screams as mom holds her down and puts the necklace on her.
The delicate golden crucifix looks beautiful against her collarbones, but she wants to rip it off.

Mom starts praying over Alissa.

"In the name of Jesus," mom yells "I rebuke the evil spirit of Sienna Franklin from my daughter!" Mom shakes her aggressively

Alissa doesn't like this, she starts screaming.

Sienna Franklin stands in the corner of the kitchen, smiling her sinister smile.
