Chapter 80

Mark's POV

I screamed as I plummeted off the cliff. As I braced myself to crash into the sharp rocks that were still covered in Dan's blood, I remembered what Reagan had told me.

She had said that Katherine's office was on the far away island. If I was supposed to get to that island after falling off the cliff, then I couldn't die from the fall.

That thought didn't do much to help me cope with the fact that for some reason, an ocean itself sounded horrible. I quickly moved my body so that I would hit the water feet first and covered my mouth and nose with a hand. I pulled the sword out of my belt loop and threw it as far away from myself as I could. I wasn't taking any chances with that thing slicing my leg off once I hit the water. I squeezed my eyes shut and held my breath

I slammed into the water at full force and let out a small whimper. The bottoms of my feet felt like someone had raked burning coals against them.

I then opened my eyes under water after comprehending that I hadn't hit any rocks. Surprisingly, the salt water didn't hurt or affect my eyes. I looked up and saw that there were no rocks anywhere around me.

I swam up to the surface and took a deep breath before scanning the area around me. The only thing I could see was the island Reagan had pointed out. Even the cliff had disappeared, and I didn't see any sign of Felix or anyone else.

I sighed and looked downward. There was a glint under the water several meters away from where I was. Assuming it was my sword, I dove under the water and began swimming to it.

As I got closer to it, I saw the shape of it more clearly. I smiled after I confirmed that it was my sword. However, my smile didn't last very long.

Once I was a few feet away from the sword, it was ripped away. I immediately bolted for the surface. Something was in the water with me.

I gasped for air at the surface and looked around. The closest thing to where I was was the island I could barely see. I started swimming for it as quickly as I could, leaving that sword with whatever creature had found it.

As I was darting away from where the sword had been, I turned around to make sure nothing was following after me. Unfortunately, there was a fin sticking out of the water, and it was gaining on me fast.

I yelled before mentally groaning, There couldn't have been a mermaid chasing after me! No! It just had to be a shark!

I turned back around and continued swimming as quickly as I could. I was too afraid of the animal behind me to actually swim, though. It was more like flopping around and splashing the water in panic.

How the hell was I supposed to out-swim a shark?!

I turned back around to face the shark approaching me to find that the fin had disappeared. I spun around, searching for any sign of the shark, but couldn't find anything.

I took in a few shaky breaths before I decided to continue on my way as quickly as I could. I turned around to face the island and instead found myself face to face with the shark.

I was completely frozen in place. The shark's head was out of the water and it was staring at me with its beady eyes. It opened its mouth slightly, showing off its incredibly pointy teeth.

I could've sworn I felt my soul leave my body.

The shark slowly swam closer to me and opened its mouth a little wider. It suddenly chomped down on something and I instinctively screamed, "Stop!"

It backed up, still staring at me, and tilted its head. It opened its mouth to show a dead sea snake.

I gagged. This was definitely worse than being with the fake versions of my friends.

The shark closed its mouth and swallowed, causing a shiver to run down my spine. A second later, I realized what exactly had just happened. That snake was probably about to poison me, and the shark killed it before it could.

I stared the shark in the eyes. "Are you trying to help me?"

The shark slowly swam up to me again. It closed its eyes and stayed planted right in front of me with its nose up. Something inside of me was urging me to touch it, but I really had no desire to.

I tried to swim around it and just continue on my way to the island, but the second I moved it moved to block my path. I sighed as it got into the same position it was in before. I felt the same urge to touch its nose again this time.

I slowly lifted my hand up to the shark and placed it on its nose. Nothing seemed to have happened.

I groaned, "Come on, dude, what do you want?"

ξίφος.

I screamed as I heard a voice respond in my head. I promptly pulled my arm away from the shark's nose. It looked at me in an almost confused way.

I tried to swim around the shark again, but it wouldn't let me pass. I yelled, "You can't honestly expect me to put my hand on your nose again! I don't even know what language you're speaking in!" I held my arm out to exaggerate my statement, and the shark bumped its nose against my hand.

Πάρτε Kyle.

My eyes widened and I didn't move my hand from the shark. "Did you say Kyle?"

Ναί! Πάρτε τον Kyle!

"Are you trying to tell me to find that sword?"

Ναί!

"Fine, but first, what language are you talking in?"

Ελληνικά.

"Umm, right. Where's Kyle?"

The shark looked at something behind me as it replied, Εκεί.

I turned around, not really knowing what it had said, but assuming that there was something behind me. Another fin was coming at me.

I groaned, "Another shark?"

Οχι.

I narrowed my eyes at the shark in front of me. "You know, you'd be a lot more helpful if you could speak English."

Λοιπόν, gee, λυπάμαι που δεν ικανοποιώ κάθε ανάγκη σου.

"I don't know what you're saying," I stated before turning around to face the other fin coming toward me. The fin ducked down under the water before a dolphin's head bobbed up.

This particular dolphin had my sword in its mouth.

I happily gasped and turned back to the shark. "You didn't tell me a dolphin had my sword!"

Ναι, έκανα–

I pulled my arm away from the shark and giggled as I placed it on the side of the dolphin's head. "Were you the thing that grabbed my sword when I went to get it?"

Yeah? What else would've grabbed a sword?

"How come you speak English but the shark can't?!" I shouted.

Dolphin's are some of the smartest creatures on the Earth. Of course we can speak more than one language.

"So can you explain what the shark has been telling me?"

He speaks in Greek, if that helps. I wasn't here to listen to the conversation, but he was probably trying to get you to go back for your sword.

"Why can I suddenly communicate with animals?" I asked.

The shark splashed some water on me. I turned to him to see him doing the same thing he was doing before. I sighed and put my other hand on his nose. "What?"

Αυτή ήταν η υπερδύναμη σου.

I looked at the dolphin. "What did he say?"

He said, 'That was your superpower.'

I retracted both of my hands immediately. "I don't have a power. I'm not a superhero."

The dolphin bumped its head against my hand and replied, We never said you were.

The dolphin opened its mouth and dropped the sword. I reached to catch it but missed. I sighed before I took a deep breath and dove under the water.

As I was swimming down, I heard a loud noise from above me. I stopped and looked up to find that the dolphin and the shark were gone. I uneasily glanced around before I continued swimming down.

After a few seconds, I reached the bottom and wrapped my hand around the sword's grip. I smiled to myself before I kicked off the ground and shot back up to the surface.

I gasped for air once I was back at the surface. I put Kyle through a belt loop and started swimming again.

However, immediately after I began swimming, something crashed against the side of my head. The last thing I remember before I slipped under the water and fell unconscious was a very distant Irish accent screaming, "Mark!"

A/N

I don't really have anything to talk about so I'll go ahead and explain why I made a shark speak Greek for anyone who didn't figure that out (I really don't expect anyone to, so HERE WE GO)

The Megalodon was a prehistoric shark who could grow to be 18 meters long. Its name came from the Ancient Greek words μέγας (pronounced megas) which meant "big, or mighty" and ὀδoύς (pronounced odoús), which meant "tooth"

Basically, the most badass shark in history's name came from Greek.

Anyways, BUH-BYE BROTATOS!
