Chapter 61

Mark's POV

We paired up demons and humans so that all of us could make it through the window. Thomas was with Logan, Jack was with Phil, and I was with Anti. Dan was going to fly up by himself first to make sure it was safe for the rest of us. Dark demanded that he carried Chica.

We all walked to the front of the car while Dan let his wings pull out of his back. They were dark gray with thin, white lines going in every direction and stretched about an inch past his fingertips on either side.

"Your wings are smaller than Anti's," I commented, staring at them in awe.

"Oh yeah? I bet I could tell you something of your's that's smaller than Anti's–"

"Dan, could you not?" Dark interrupted.

"Yeah, don't try to diss Mark. Just go make sure everything's safe," Anti added.

Dan huffed. "Sure." He launched himself into the air, flapped his wings a few times, then soared up to the window.

I heard Dark whisper from behind me, "You know, he's a lot less annoying when he's forty meters away from us."

"He'd be way less annoying if he dropped from that far," Anti whispered back, giggling quietly.

Jack jogged up beside me and asked, "Ya think Anti'll drop you since you're so annoying?"

I turned to look at him. "I'm not sure, but based off of what I've heard, humans and demons feel the same way about people. Would you drop me from that high up?"

He looked up to the window Dan had just flown through, almost as if he was considering it. "Hmm."

I shoved him. "Why is this something to think about?!"

He laughed, "I'm kidding! Calm down! If you were to die and anyone found out I did it, I'd be dead within an hour."

"All that proves is that people care more about my well-being than yours," I stated, smirking. "Which is entirely true, but–"

"That's the most untrue statement I've ever heard! As far as I know, there are only two people who give a crap about you! That's Reagan and–"

"What the hell are you two fighting over?" Anti asked, interrupting Jack.

"Jack said that only two people care about me!" I pouted in a child's voice.

Anti stared at Jack. "Was one of those people–"

"Reagan!" Jack interrupted, blushing slightly. "Reagan won't shut up about Mark when I'm with her! I actually think she might be the only person–"

Anti erupted into a fit of laughter. "Smooth, Jack. Now you're just insulting Mark even more."

Jack's face turned a darker shade of red. I looked between him and Anti. "What're you two talking about?"

Anti seemed prepared to answer but didn't get the chance to since Dan came crashing back down at that moment. "I still need to work on my landings," he grumbled to himself as he laid face down on the grass.

"So, how's everything looking up there?" Dark asked.

Dan pushed himself off the grass and sat down. "The window leads to a hallway on the third or fourth floor. There were two guards dressed in knights armor on both ends of the hallway. I don't think any of them saw me."

Phil helped Dan up, then replied, "It sounds like we're good to go, then."

Dark picked up Chica. "Yup. Logan, you want to go through the plan?"

"Dan leads, Dark follows, then Phil, Anti, and I are after that. If there are four guards, Dan and Dark need to take them out so that the rest of us can get Jack, Mark, and Thomas in," Logan instructed.

"Doesn't sound too difficult," Dark commented as his wings burst through his back. They were black with bright red lines and shapes covering them.

"Whoa," I murmured, "cool."

Dark smiled, showing off his pointed teeth. "Awesome, right? I personally think I have the coolest wings in the Underworld–"

"Lies!" Dan cut in. "Mine are aesthetically pleasing!"

"Both of you have great...wings, but I bet Anti's are better!" Jack yelled before mumbling, "That's probably the weirdest thing I've ever said."

Anti laughed, almost nervously, "My wings are black, but the muscle tissue is bright green. They're probably the most uninteresting."

Jack's eyes lit up. "But that sounds so cool! I wish I could make my muscle tissue a different color from my skin!"

"That'd look pretty weird," Dan commented before adding, "No offense."

Jack glared at him. "Your wings look like a spider made a web on you. You have no right to judge this."

Dan seemed ready to retort, but before he could, Logan cut in, "Are we flying up to that window or are we bickering over something this pointless?"

"We're flying up to the window!" Dark announced before Jack or Dan could oppose.

Logan stretched out his black and white wings, and Phil and Anti did the same. Phil's wings were splattered with different colors, almost to the point of looking tie-dyed.

Dark carefully picked up Chica and flew after Dan to the window. Logan grabbed Thomas just as Phil grabbed Jack. Anti walked up behind me. "So am I carrying you bridal style again or do you have a less weird idea?"

I shrugged. "I don't exactly have people flying me around often. What other way could you carry me?"

Anti smirked before clutching my forearm. I sent him a confused glance, but he ignored it. "You should probably hold on."

My eyes widened. "Wait, you aren't gonna–" Before I could finish, Anti lunged into the air, dragging me underneath him. I yelled.

"Calm down," he chuckled, "Jack would probably murder me if I dropped you. You'll be fine."

Jack would–

Anti threw me through the open window. My hands hit the ground first, then I proceeded to somersault until I crashed into the wall.

"Anti, I hate you," I commented in my upside down state.

Anti laughed, "I'll be sure to add your name to that list." He flew through the window and his wings disappeared into his back.

I heard Chica bark to my right. I turned to the right and saw Dark fighting two knights while Chica barked viciously.

"We should probably help them," I commented as I turned back to Anti. Only, Anti wasn't there.

I heard him yell from Dark's direction, "Fight me instead you asshole!"

I turned back to the right to find Anti punching the knight in the gut. Dark was standing behind him, an astonished look on his face.

Chica saw me watching and barked happily. Dark and I made eye contact before his face turned a light pink. "Just for the record, Anti didn't 'save' me. I beat up the other knight before you two got here."

"Yeah, but I helped you out with this one," Anti replied, bending down to pet Chica.

"I didn't need your help, though."

"But I'm sure you're glad to have it!" Anti exclaimed, smirking slightly.

Dark rolled his eyes. "Whatever, but shouldn't you two have helped Dan instead?"

I turned to my left and saw Dan fighting two knights. One was holding Dan's left arm back while the other punched him.

I heard Anti mumble, "It's not my day to take care of Dan. That's Phil's job."

I whipped my head around to face them, smirking. "But it's your day to watch Dark?"

Both of their faces turned bright red. I giggled to myself as both of them tried to stutter out a response. I stood up and ran toward Dan.

I grabbed the knight that was holding Dan's arm and pulled them away from each other. I pushed the knight down the hallway, toward Anti and Dark. I turned back to deal with the other knight to find him laying on the floor.

I looked at Dan. "Did you–"

"I knocked him unconscious. He should be fine." I nodded my head before turning back around to face the other knight.

Except, that knight was laying on the ground too. Anti and Dark were standing over him.

I pouted, "Why don't I get to beat up bad guys?!"

"We haven't seen you fight, so we don't exactly know if you're any good," Dan responded before Anti or Dark could give me a smart-ass remark.

I sighed and grumbled, "I guess that's fair."

Phil and Logan flew through the window with Thomas and Jack. Thomas and Jack looked like they might have fainted on their way up. "Are you two alright?" I asked.

"Alive? Yes. Alright? No," Jack replied as he laid on the floor.

"I don't think I'll ever be able to fly in an airplane again," Thomas muttered as he collapsed next to Jack.

"You two need to get up!" Phil cheered encouragingly. "It's time to rescue Percy!"
