Guess who turned twenty?

Valentino

While Mags slept, I got up and made breakfast for her: biscuits and gravy and coffee.

Nix shuffled into the kitchen and grabbed a mug from the cabinet. He glanced at the food on the stove. "Making Maggie her favorite breakfast?"

"Yeah." I pulled out a baking sheet with biscuits before putting another one in and closing the oven door. "I want today to be special for Mags."

Nix poured coffee into the mug, replaced the pot, and sipped it. "I got to hand it to you, Nash. You got your head out of your ass."

I gave Nix an annoyed look. "Thanks for the reminder."

"No problem." He shrugged. "But honestly, it's good to see you two happy."

"You mean that, don't you?"

Nix nodded. "Maggie was there for Frick and Frack when I couldn't be. No parent wants to leave their kids behind without a safety net."

I nodded in agreement and worked on the gravy until it finished cooking. I crumbled two biscuits on a plate and scooped the sausage gravy over it. "Do me a favor. Take the biscuits out when the time goes off. I don't want them to burn."

Nix nodded and gave me a thumbs up, drinking his coffee.

I poured coffee into a mug before placing it and the plate on a tray with silverware. I fixed Mags' coffee to how she liked it before carrying the tray upstairs to the bedroom. I set the tray on the nightstand and shook Mags gently.

Mags stirred and woke up before sitting up. "Nash?" She wiped the sleep from her eyes.

"Happy birthday, baby girl."

Mags blinked before smiling at me.

I grabbed the tray and placed it on her lap. "I made your favorite," I said.

Her face lit up. "You made me biscuits and gravy?"

I nodded before crawling beside her.

She sipped her coffee before digging into her food. She groaned when she took that first bite. "Oh, my god."

"Did I do good?"

"You did great. It tastes like my dad's." She shoveled food into her mouth.

"Good because I got the recipe from West when he was here last night."

Mags snapped her face to me. "Really?"

I nodded. "West said you always request biscuits and gravy on your birthday. Since you ensured I got my cupcake, I wanted to return the favor."

"Aww." Mags leaned over and kissed me before returning to her food.

I learned not to come between a girl and her food a long time ago. Lark taught me that lesson when she almost took out her sister's hand with a fork.

"What do you want to do today?" I asked.

Mags chewed and swallowed her food. "Aside from what we normally do, which is attend classes and run from demons."

I rolled my eyes. "Today is your day. The demons can take a break for one day. We'll resume dealing with them tomorrow."

Mags giggled. "You sure have high hopes, don't you?"

"No one will get in the way of celebrating your birthday today. It's your day. What do you want to do?"

The bedroom door opened, and the others stood in the doorway.

Nix walked toward us and threw clothes at us. "Get dressed."

I caught the clothes so they didn't land in Mags' food. "Why?"

"We're taking Maggie out for the day to celebrate her birthday. Nathan and Nolan called in a few favors from their family. They're expecting us."

I glanced at my cousins before looking at Mags. "I guess my cousins found something to do."

"Works for me." She shrugged and finished her breakfast.

I grabbed a shower while Nix grabbed the tray and took it downstairs. Mags used a different shower, or we would never leave the house.

I showered and dressed, thanks to the girls for grabbing my clothes from the house. I dried my hair before pulling on a knit hat. I shoved my feet into my winter boots and put on my coat.

Once Nash and I were ready, we left the house. Nash followed Nathan since he had the directions to the place. We pulled up to a building with the name The Game Room on the building. We got out and entered as Nathan spoke to a guy. The guy nodded and winked at me. Nash tugged me to him and glared at the guy.

"Will you chill?" Nathan asked him.

"Tell the asshole to stop winking at Mags."

"That's Ezra. He could break you in half with the snap of his fingers or shoot you in the ass."

"What?"

"Ezra likes to play with his toys before he breaks them." Nathan rolled his eyes.

"You have a scary family."

"Only if you become their enemy." He shrugged. "Ezra shut down the building to only us so Maggie can have a demon-free birthday."

Nash nodded in understanding.

Aww, that's so sweet. I can have fun on my birthday without trying not to die. It's what every girl wants for their birthday.

We walked into a massive room with different games and bounce houses. We removed our coats, hats, and boots before spreading out. Nash and I ran toward a bounce house, dove through the opening, and jumped around. Nixon and Kat joined us. Nash chased me around the bounce house. I crashed into Kat, taking her down. We laughed as Nash and Nixon roared with laughter.

Kat and I got us, ran toward Nixon and Nash, and jumped on them. They fell, taking us with them. We bounced around, laughing.

After spending time in the bounce house, we checked out other things to do. We found an inflatable slide, climbed to the top, and slid down it. We repeated this ten times before moving to another attraction.

Aiden, Diego, and Emilio chased each other on tricycles. We laughed, watching three grown-ass guys ride trikes. Eden and Marissa played Skee-ball. Macey, Marcy, Brook, and Karlene threw axes at a target. Nathan, Noah, and Nolan played pool.

Eventually, Nathan led us to another room, where a girl handed us white suits with hoods and goggles. She put them on before she passed out paintball guns to us and showed us the area to play. You didn't need to tell me twice. We spread out and shot at each other, trying to take each other out.

Thanks to my dad, I learned how to shoot a gun. I managed to shoot everyone once. Then, they retaliated and pelted me with paint. I laughed, trying to shield my face. I had to admit it was a fun birthday.

I loved listening to Mags laugh. It was the best sound in the world. I glanced at Nathan and Nolan. "Thanks for doing this for her."

"You don't need to thank us, Nash. Maggie means as much to us as she does to you," Nolan said.

"Plus, who else would give us a cake on our birthday after landing in the clink," Nathan said.

I nodded in response.

"Hey!" Kat yelled to get our attention. "We have a surprise for Maggie!"

We turned to see Marcy carrying a cake toward us. Mags grinned when she saw it.

"Make a wish, Maggie," Marcy said.

Mags glanced at us, smiling. "I don't need to make a wish. I already got it with everyone here." She leaned over, closed her eyes, and blew out the candles.

Marcy set the cake on the table. Macey sliced it and handed out plates with cake on it to everyone. Mags took a bite and snapped her face at me as everyone stared at me in confusion. I turned and walked away, eating my cake.

"Nashville!" Everyone yelled.

I glanced over my shoulder and smirked at them before my eyes widened. I broke out into a run, shoveling cake into my mouth. This is an excellent cake if I say so myself.

That damn Nash. I paid the bakery to make his cupcake, the cake, and the tart. He had to upstage me and make my damn cake. The minute I tasted the cake, I knew who made it. Nash had a signature with his cakes and cupcakes.

We chased him around the area while he ate his cake. He dumped his trash before hopping a wall to get away from us. While the cousins hopped the wall, I cut him off at the pass. I released a war cry and tackled him to the ground. Nash laughed as I smacked his chest.

"That was a dirty trick," I said.

Nash grabbed my wrists to keep me from smacking him. "Did you think I wouldn't bake you a cake?"

"I feel like a schmuck because I had the bakery make your cupcake."

"Who cares? You love my cakes."

"When? How?"

"I found out the girls ordered a cake from the bakery for you. I asked Braiden if I could make it since it was your birthday cake. He agreed. I worked on the cake while you hung out with the girls."

"What will I do with you?"

"Love me."

"Too late. I already do." I smiled.

Nash pulled me down and captured my lips.

It was the best birthday ever, and no demons were involved. You can't ask for better than that.
