I felt grim as I walked to the jail. I gripped the sledge hammer tightly. The sun was setting. I could see the jail in the distance. I really wanted to run out there and smash the wall. Patience, you'll get your chance. I thought.
I hid in a bush and watched the sun go down. I wondered how many sunsets Cyrus had left. I waited until it was late in the night. Then I ran right to the wall of Cyrus's cell. I swung the sledge hammer into the wall. SMASH!! I flinched. Someone would come soon.
SMASH!! SMASH!! SMASH!! I hit it as fast as I could. SMASH!! Just a few more. SMASH!! POW!! I heard a gunshot and I felt a searing pain in my leg. I yelped. I finally made out two figures in the darkness.
I sunk to my knees. I touched the general area of the wound and felt slippery, warm blood. "Sorry about this." A yell, silence. I dark figure walked up to me. "Lana," a familiar voice whispered. "Hi Sam,"I replied weakly.
Sam was sort of like a dad to me. "Don't worry it didn't hit me in a vital area," I whispered. "Where did the bullet hit?" "It hit me in the leg." Sam's face darkened. "No,no." "What's wrong? What's wrong?" I said again and again. He looked at my wound and sighed. "Nothing, nothing, but I thought the bullet might have hit an artery." "Well did it?" I felt nervous.
"No, but if it had you would've been dead." "Thanks Sam. Now I'm going to destroy this wall and get Cyrus out." I tried to get up, but I fell. "Lana, stop," I froze at the quiet voice. I saw Cyrus's piercing blue eyes staring at me.
He knew I couldn't say no.
