The Heist
Four corridors and ten wrong turns later, we find the admissions office. Beckett tries magick on the door that glows a dangerous red. I look around and point at a vent above us.
"We can climb up there, right?" Beckett nods and I offer him a foot up which makes him raise an eyebrow. "What? I'm stronger than I look and we need your metal powers to open the vent." He clenches a fist and the vent pops open with a loud clang.
"You can fit in the vent and open the door from the inside," He offers me a foot up and I roll my eyes before stepping on his hands. I climb into the vent and crawl towards the opening to the admissions office. I kick the vent grate and drop down before unlocking the door. I open the door and smile at Beckett. "You have cobwebs in your hair," He picks some out of my hair before closing the door after him. "You check M and I'll check L just in case." I check the L cabinet and grin at Xavier LaFay's file.
"I know this is serious but can I check Xavier's so I can blackmail him into going after someone else?" Beckett shakes his head, flicking through the files. "C'mon Bishop! You can blackmail Cordelia into groping someone else...Maybe Xavier?" Beckett sighs, running his hand through his stupidly perfect hair.
"As much as I want to, we have to find your file...Are you sure Moon's your last name?" I give him a look and he closes his cabinet as angrily he can without making a noise. "Do you have a middle name?" I nod, biting my lip before answering.
"Yeah, it's Crescent," He looks at me, a strange look that I don't know. "It's my middle name. It's on my adoption papers," Beckett goes to C and flicks through the files before stopping with a sigh. "It isn't, is it?" He lifts up the file and I can see my full name on it. "Let me read it," I walk over to him and take it. I open the file and what looks like a tree grows in the middle of the file. I find a leaf with my face on it and follow my branch to four names. Aloyisius Crescent, Anna Moon, Solace Moon-Cresent and Ash Moon-Crescent. "Aloyisius Crescent...That's him, isn't it?" Beckett tries to touch my hand but I move it away from him which is very difficult and point at two branches, one which connected to mine. "I have siblings? This makes no sense." Beckett points at Solace.
"Solace seems to be a twin...Holy shit," I look at him and he smiles at me gently. "Remember that girl in the mirror? With the white hair?" I nod and he points to the leaf. "What if it's Solace? I'm ninety percent sure there's a sort of mirror realm." Before I can utter a word, we hear a man at the end of the corridor.
"Sorry, honey, I'm going to be later than I said," I close the file and stick it under my shirt before gently closing the cabinet. "I know, it's just that the second years are having a party for the first years and I have to make sure no one has alcohol poisoning or a baby," Beckett takes my hand after we close the admissions office door and we run. "I've got to go, I've got runners. HEY! STOP RIGHT THERE!" I hear the man catching up on us and I pull Beckett into a store room.
"I know this is the second time tonight but it's the only way we get away with this," Beckett frowns before I kiss him and hook my fingers around his belt loops, standing on the tips of my toes. He buries his hands in my hair and kisses me back hard enough to bruise, sparks flying everywhere. The store room door opens and we jump apart. I smile awkwardly at the man. "I'm sorry, we were just looking for somewhere to kiss without our friends seeing." Beckett gives a shrug and the man steps aside.
"If I catch you again, I'll tell your friends myself," I smile gratefully and walk past him with Beckett behind me. "You might want to fix your hair before you see your friends or they'll know." Beckett hands me a comb with an awkward smile.
"This might help," I comb my hair as we head towards our dorm in a strange silence until I hand him his comb and he stops me before we can see the dorm. "So, about that second kiss...It was better than the first one...Probably because no one could see," I nod before looking at my shoes. "I've kissed a few girls in my life and none of those kisses made me feel half the way that both those kisses felt with you." I feel the file under my shirt and do the last thing I want to do.
"I feel the same but I barely know you and I barely know myself now," I look at him and barely keep going after seeing his eyes. "I think we need to know each other and I need to know who I am before anything else happens. Maybe we should see how we feel in a month, okay? You don't have to wait for me." Beckett nods, his hand in his hair.
"I'm probably going to wait. You take as much time as you need," He kisses my cheek and smiles. "We better go to the dorm before there's rumours about us," I kiss him gently and we head towards the dorm. "You know that isn't going to make this easier, right Moon?" I turn and grin at him.
"Of course I do, Bishop," I wiggle my eyebrows. "It's just to make sure that I definitely feel this way in a month," He grins at me and I look at a nearby fountain to see the girl staring at me. "I'll catch up with you later. I need to check something," Beckett shrugs and I look into the fountain at the girl after Beckett leaves. "You're Solace, right?" She looks shocked before nodding. "Why did you bring me here?" She opens her mouth to answer before her eyes widen and she points behind me. I turn to see the shadows I had dreamt about, only I can see fiery faces this time. I throw my hands up as one lunges at me and see fire forming around me. The shadow disappears and I punch another one in the face while the others lunge into the shield...Except one. I feel teeth in my shoulder and the shield disappears as I scream in pain. The shadow pulls me to the ground and goes for my stomach until a ball of fire hits it. I look to see John, Alena and Zacharias running towards me.
"Luna, are you alright?" John lands on his knees and winces at my shoulder. I sit up, holding my shoulder and nod. John looks angrily around. "Where. The. Hell. Is. Bishop?" Beckett appears behind him, covering his mouth at the sight of me.
"Moon, what happ-" Beckett starts before John grabs him by the throat and throws him to the ground before punching him in the face. Alena and Zacharias pull at John ineffectively until I stand up and touch John's shoulder which makes him freeze.
"I asked Beckett to leave me alone. It's not his fault, let him go," I barely breathe until John lets go of Beckett who has a burst lip and I help Beckett up, sparks travelling up my arm. "You were right about the fire powers, Bishop." Beckett tries to smile but sees my shoulder.
"I should've been here," He murmurs, touching my shoulder gently, the sparks painful. "I may not have fire or anything useful but I should've been here...What if you were seriously hurt or worse, it would've been on me." Zacharias coughs and I remember the others are there.
"We better get cleaned up, Bishop," Beckett nods and Alena gives me a suggestive look. "No, Alena, bad Alena, no shipping," Everyone gives me a weird look. "I had a friend back home who shipped everyone with anyone or anything and I said that to her a lot." I hastily explain and see Beckett giving me a massive grin that makes me smile.
"I'm going bed," John announces before taking Alena's hand. "Watch out, public display of affection in three, two, one," I look away as he kisses Alena and Zacharias mimicks vomiting. "Goodnight folks." John bows before stepping on his tile and shooting up five floors. I end up on a tile with Beckett who keeps staring at my shoulder.
"Beckett, it wasn't your fault so stop staring before I shove you off this tile," Beckett keeps looking and I sigh. "If you stop, I'll kiss you," Beckett looks at me and I lift up his hand to kiss it. "I never said where." I press a kiss to his hand before stepping off the tile and letting Alena take care of me.
