A Quick Look at My Graphic Timeline
We all started out our journey somewhere, so whatever you do, never quit! My designing journey started in December 2014, and I don't think it will ever end. <3
Here's my timeline from December 2014 until now. As people have been asking me how and how long does it take for me to improve, I am going to share my graphics timeline with yall. I am just picking out a few graphics from every phase.
DECEMBER 2014
[ Pixlr ]
I was so so proud of the bevel LOL. I was practically shrieking to my brother like "dude I made a bevel and it's so cooool!"
There was a skip in time because I totally did not get back into graphics until I got Photoshop.
MARCH 2015
[ Adobe Photoshop ]
I actually thought I was a goddess when I made this, but I was proven wrong quickly.
APRIL 2015
This was one of those covers that I found out how to use the different layer settings in photoshop. I don't watch tutorials, so I do everything slowly through trial and error.
MAY 2015
I tried to recreate the cover style by TrafficCop and I guess it wasn't too bad.
JUNE 2015
This was when someone told me to change my style instead of the usual model + background. At this phase last year, I could only make model based ones and I absolutely hate object based and vector ones.
JULY 2015
I admit that I was heavy on psd coloring and a lot of unnecessary textures when I was in this phase.
AUGUST 2015
This is the over-Topaz phase!
SEPTEMBER 2015
This was the phase where I started to learn to use brushes.
OCTOBER 2015
Text effects started to become my priority in this phase.
NOVEMBER 2015
Inspired by my boo, Amy and the pretty vector covers out there, I decided to give vector a try. Turned out pretty great!
DECEMBER 2015
First major photomanipulation
JANUARY 2016
This was the epic fantasy self discovery phase!
FEBRUARY 2016
This was the phase where I took up simplicity and object based covers
MARCH 2016
This was when my obsession with all types of book covers came along.
APRIL 2016
Photomanipulation and Wacom craze phase
MAY 2016
The vector craze!
JUNE 2015
The phase where I started finding my own style and voice in graphics
JULY 2016
The epic Angel photomanip phase
August - September is probably everything you saw in this graphic book. :D Overall, 2016 was a pretty great year of graphics for me!
And lastly something as of early Nov
Things that I have learned through experience:
1. STAY AWAY FROM MAINSTREAM FREE FONTS *glares at bleeding cowboys*. I get mine from creativemarket and *font market?* now.
2. Out of the 1000000 fonts I own, I only use like 10.
3. Psd coloring and topaz isn't going to save your graphic if it's already shit, and neither will textures.
4. Lens flare isn't always gonna give your graphic and epic look.
5. Positive and Negative spacing, keep them in check, bruh.
6. How to use the tools that no one uses in Photoshop.
7. A complicated process isn't gonna guarantee that you'll get a great cover *looks at countless discarded graphics with more than 200 layers*
8. Text slaps, if done right, will make it look like a great manip!
9. Nothing comes without practice.
10. How to put in your own style ( everyone can tell if a certain graphic is mine) although there are so many other types of things that I design.
It's pretty obvious that I'm improved since my pixlr phase ( LOL ), but I am always growing, always seeking improvement. Maybe one day, I might hit that dream every designer wants.
On a side note, these are only ONE example throughout the months. If you want to see the whole timeline, just click on the Wattpad thread in the external link. I do have to warn you though, DO NOT POST ANYTHING OR I WILL KILL YOU. :D
