Clockwork's POV
I stared at the motionless body of my young apprentice. My friend. The boy I saw as my own son. I let this happen again. And Vizier was always the cause. This is my fault. I wasn't able to save Serenity and now I wasn't able to save Danny.
More ghosts pushed through the crowd to see, one of them being Nocturne who was being supported on either side by Ghost Writer and Skulker. "What is going on?" Nocturne asked, pain audible in his voice. Vizier must have hit him pretty hard.
I pointed to the center, where Danny was surrounded by his friends. Nocturne looked at them then back at me, "I still don't understand." Attention slowly began to draw towards the two of us. I frowned, "Danny is gone Nocturne! And it's all my fault."
Nocturne snickered then clutched his chest. "He's not dead," the Elder Spirit told me. And apparently almost everyone else heard as well. "I can hear his heartbeat. It's faint but there," Nocturne told everyone. Jazz pressed her ear to Danny's chest. Her tears began to start anew but she had a joyous look on her face, "He's right! I can hear it. But it's getting slower."
Fright Knight moved closer to Danny's body. "Clockwork, Nocturne, anybody! What can we do to save him? Please!" Jazz cried as her brother's heartbeat grew fainter. "Look for a little black box," Fright Knight told her. The girl looked at Fright Knight, "What?" "A little black box! Or a pendant with his symbol on it!" he lightly shouted.
Danni, Sam, Tucker, Jazz, and even Cujo and Wulf helped Fright Knight search for the little black box or pendant he described. "Time Master! You are wounded!" Frostbite cried rushing over to me. He tore off pieces of his cape and tied them around my right shoulder and upper arm. Cujo barked suddenly, holding the black box between his teeth.
Fright Knight took it from Cujo and opened it, revealing a white pendant on a silver chain. The pendant held Danny's trademark symbol on it in black. Fright Knight slipped it over the boys head and rested the pendant over his chest. Fright Knight sat back and waited.
Nothing happened.
"No..... no no no! This was supposed to work!" Fright Knight cried. Before anyone could ask him what the pendant was, a bright light emitted from the pendant. It filled the room with white light and Danny began to levitate above the ground. He floated to the center of the room as the walls, steps and even the throne began to repair themselves. The floor shifted beneath us and the castle vibrated with life.
The light from the pendant dimmed and Danny began to fall to the ground. Fright Knight raced past me and caught Danny just before he hit the ground. Danny's friends, Cujo, Wulf, Ember, Johnny, Kitty, Frostbite, Pandora, Queen Dorathea and I rushed over to the ghost knight.
Fright Knight gently set Danny down on the ground. Jazz rushed beside him and placed her brother's head in her lap. She brushed his white bangs out of his face, "Danny?" she whispered. No response. Tears began to flow from her eyes again. Suddenly, Danny groaned. "Ugh, anybody get the plate on the bus that just hit me?"
His green eyes opened and everyone around Danny screamed with joy as Danni, Sam, Tucker and Jazz all squeezed the boy in a tight hug. "Guys..... can't... breathe," Danny choked out. They reduced the squeezing and eventually stopped hugging.
Sam punched Danny in the shoulder, "Don't you ever scare me like that again," she scolded lightly. Danny rubbed his shoulder and laughed. Cujo and Wulf tackled him and began licking his face. When they were done, Danny was helped onto his feet by Fright Knight. He continued to lean against Fright Knight for support.
Danny looked up at me and gave me a fang-less smile, "You're ok." I smiled back, "Of course." "Whoa dude, how many costume changes are you gonna have?" Tucker commented.
Danny looked down at his clothes. He was now wearing plain white boots. He wore pants that were white along the outside edges and black in the center along with a white belt with a DP buckle. His shirt had black sleeves and the sides of his shirt were black with a large white line running up the center and extending out to his shoulders. He wore white gloves and the Ring of Rage was resting on his right ring finger. He wore sliver armor on his shoulders that rested underneath his black cape. The inside of his cape was a dark purple colour. On his head rested the Crown of Fire once again transformed. It was now golden in colour and had multiple jewels embedded in it. It glowed with white and blue fire.
"Whoa," Danny whispered. Everyone laughed. Others began walking over to us as Danny was embraced and fist bumped. All the while, Danny continued to be supported by Fright Knight. "I hate to interrupt," I said over the noise of the crowd.
All attention was on me, "I do believe we still have a coronation to attend." Danny smiled, "Leave that to me."
He floated high above the crowd and his eyes glowed with green light. He began waving his hands and the throne room began to transform. Banners appeared with his symbol on it in a variety of colours. Castle staff began flowing in and setting up tables, chairs, and other decorations with great speed. A cake was wheeled in along with other plates of food and dessert.
When it was all done Danny floated back down to the ground, his eyes losing their bright glow. When his feet touched the ground he stumbled but was caught by Fright Knight. "Thanks FK," he said to his ghost bodyguard. Fright Knight nodded in return and began to walk him away.
Jazz, Sam, Tucker, and Danni began to follow but I stopped them much to their displeasure, "Danny needs to get ready, and so do the four of you." I waved my staff over them and their clothes morphed before their eyes.
Jazz was now wearing a single sleeved teal floor length dress with a matching necklace and earrings. Her hair was pulled up into a bun and a few curled locks of hair framed her face. She had light blue eye shadow, light pink blush and red lips.
Sam was now wearing a purple floor length dress with black lace sleeves. Without her small ponytail her hair was slightly longer and rested just above her shoulders. She wore a purple and silver pendant around her neck along with a black choker. Black eye shadow, soft purple lipstick and light blush adorned her face.
Tucker wore a black suit with black dress shoes. A yellow shirt along with a black tie was worn underneath.
Danni had on a black and white dress (similar to what she wore in her ghost form) with short sleeves. Her hair was still in a ponytail but now she wore a jeweled silver clip in her hair. She wore no makeup other than what she already had on and wore small white gloves.
While they looked at their new attire I lead them to the seats closest to the throne, which no longer rested on the top of a set of stairs. The stairs were gone entirely and the throne now rested on a small stage made of white stone. The throne itself was made of black and white wood and the back was carved elegantly to look like swirling circle of black and white.
"Clockwork," Jazz said from her seat.
I turned to the girl, "Yes?" I replied.
"Are you sure Vizier is gone?" she asked timidly.
I frowned. After a moment I replied, "Yes. There is no possible way for him to return ever again."
Jazz seemed to relax at hearing that and smiled. I floated to a door at the side of the room. I knocked lightly on the door. "Come in," Danny called. I opened the door and saw Fright Knight helping Danny walk around the small white room. Danny looked up and smiled.
I pressed the stopwatch button on my staff, "Time out," I said, my voice echoing around the room.
Danny and Fright Knight froze in time. I pulled out a Time Medallion and placed it around Fright Knight's neck. "I know what you are going to say Time Master," Fright Knight spoke the second he was unfrozen, "But I had to give it to him. I had a feeling something like this would happen and I knew only the pendant would save him."
"Yet you couldn't have warned me!" I scolded.
"I was going to. But never got the chance."
"Does Danny know what it truly is?"
"Yes."
I sighed, "Have you informed him of it's use?" Fright Knight nodded. I took the medallion off of the knight and placed it around Danny's neck. Before he could speak I quickly grabbed him in a hug.
"Um..... Clockwork?" he questioned. I did not respond. After a moment I let go, "I am so glad you are safe."
Danny looked down, "Why aren't you mad at me? I made the deal with Vizier, I could have destroyed the Ghost Zone, I could have killed everyone!"
"None of this was your fault. I know how Vizier can be," I told the young halfa, resting a hand on his shoulder. He looked up at me, "Who's Serenity?"
I tensed, "How do you know that name?"
"Vizier always talked about her whenever he mentioned you when I was under his control. Though he never went into detail." Danny said.
I sighed, "Serenity.... was the Spirit of Order. She kept balance in the Ghost Zone. She was also the love of my life."
Danny gasped softly. I continued, "She and her sister Chaos, who provided the little bit of unrest that Serenity balanced out, were admired by all the Elder Spirits. Serenity and I eventually fell in love. Sure there were others who loved her, Nocturne for example, but he and Chaos eventually fell in love. Vizier loved Serenity too and was jealous that she had chosen me. That was why he would interfere with the timeline, to try and get her attention. That led to him being banished. And during our battle at my tower in the time of Pariah Dark, she protected me from a blast to the back causing her destruction."
I finished with a sigh and Danny hugged me, "I'm so sorry Clockwork." I hugged the boy back, "It is alright. At least he did not take you away from me."
Danny looked up at me, a wide smile gracing his face. I noticed the small white pendant around his neck. "So Fright Knight has told you of the Pendant of Life?"
Danny glanced at the pendant as we broke apart. "Yeah, I'm not whether to be honored he gave it to me or to be scared."
"Do not fear it. Yes, Fright Knight is trusting you with the most powerful artifact in existence but it will not control you like the crown and ring. It was made by Serenity and myself along with Lumen, the Spirit of Light. Fright Knight has protected it for many centuries. If he decided to give it to you for your birthday gift, I trust his judgement."
Danny smiled. "Now I do believe we should be getting on with this coronation, "I said as I was about to press the stopwatch button on my staff. "Wait! One more thing," Danny shouted. He floated up to whisper in my ear. I nodded, "As you wish. Time in!"
Time jump to the actual coronation
The Ring of Rage and Crown of Fire rested on two separate pedestals beside the throne. I floated next to them. Danny walked out of the side room with some assistance from Fright Knight, he was still very weak. The pendant glowed around his neck. Fright Knight lead Danny to the throne and Danny sat down.
I began my speech, "We are gathered here to see the crowning of a new Prince. A new age. An Age of Light. Before he is crowned the Prince would like to say a few words."
I nodded at Danny who nodded in return. Fright Knight helped him to a podium on the other side of the throne and stood next to him, prepared if the Prince needed his help.
Danny launched into his speech, "Hello everyone. Friends, family, enemies. I am honored to take the throne and bring the Ghost Zone out of the dark clutches Pariah Dark and Vizier left it in. But I won't be taking the throne."
Gasps sounded throughout the room and a few quiet cheers could be heard from Danny's enemies.
"Not today at least. Maybe one day when I'm older and feel fit to rule I will take my rightful place as Prince or King. But until then I have chosen a successor, for the time being."
Ghosts and humans alike looked around the room trying to guess who Danny was talking about. Some of the staff began looking around as well.
"This person has been with me since day 1. They have stood by me, helped me through thick and thin and always been there when needed, even if I didn't want them there. The past five days were rough for everyone but they never gave up hope. We've had our differences in the past but I am glad to say that they are a true friend."
Without any assistance, Danny slowly walked over to the pedestals containing the ring and crown and grabbed them in each hand. He turned back to the crowd, "And so, as I step down for the time being. I name the next ruler of the Ghost Zone as......"
A/N: Oh would ya look at the time? Gotta fly!
*grabs Ghost Writer and teleports away*
