Chapter 3: Welcome to Phantom's Keep
Danny's POV
I couldn't believe my eyes. I vaguely remembered the castle from my fight with Pariah Dark and his skeleton army but now it looked completely different.
The once blood red castle now had my black and white colour scheme. The stones that made up the castle were a smooth black and the roofs of the castle were tiled white. Black flags flew off the top of the towers with my white DP symbol on them.
Before the castle entrance had looked like screaming mouth but now it just looked like a normal entrance. There were two large white pillars on either side of the giant white door and on the door was my trademark DP symbol in black.
"I hope the castle is to your liking," Clockwork said. My mouth opened and closed, trying to form words but I just couldn't process what I was looking at.
Clockwork waved his staff in front of my face, "Danny? Is there something wrong?"
I rubbed my eyes and faced Clockwork, "This.... is mine?"
Clockwork raised an eyebrow as he turned back to his middle aged self, "Was that not clear by the black and white colours, as well as your symbol almost everywhere?" I laughed, "It was clear, just wanted to make sure that there wasn't any other ghost copying my style."
Clockwork nodded, "So would you like to just float out here all day or would you like to see the rest of your castle?" I grinned and nodded so hard that it felt like my head would fly off.
"Then let's get moving, we're already almost late," he said as he began flying to the main entrance of the.... my castle.
Doing another loop-de-loop I flew after him, eager to see inside my new castle.
Inside the castle
The interior of the castle was even more amazing than the outside.
Once Clockwork and I had entered through the 30 ft door of Phantom's Keep, I was instantly amazed how much it had changed since my battle with the former Ghost King.
Truth be told, I hadn't seen much of it since I had been more focused on the battle and the only other time I had been here was when I 'borrowed' the Fright Knight's sword and that time I had been focused on not dying.
Either way, it looked amazing. The entry hall was huge, the ceiling had to be at least 50 ft up and the main floor about 20 ft from side to side. Suits of armor holding swords in a resting position lined the long hall and countless banners hung from the walls.
All the banners held my DP symbol in a variety of colours and styles. The walls and floors themselves were a dark grey, almost black in colour, and there was a long green and black carpet that led from the start of the hall all the way to a black door with silver markings on it at the other side.
"Wow," I whispered. Clockwork's hand lightly gripped my shoulder then he proceeded to float towards the door on the other end of the entrance hall. I quickly followed, trying to take in as much of my surrounding as I could.
Before I knew it, I face planted into the other door and landed on my behind. I shook my head and my eyes fell upon Clockwork. The elder spirit had a hand over his face and was shaking his head. I laughed nervously as I stood up and brushed myself off.
"Sorry," I said, "Guess it's just a lot to take in all at once."
Clockwork removed the hand from his face and patted my shoulder, "It's understandable, but please try not to do that with the Observants."
"I'll try," I replied. With that Clockwork opened the door just as my ghost sense went off and I was surprised to see at least 30 ghosts in the room that the door led to. Most were dressed in some sort of maid, cook, or other servant type style of clothing.
They were flying all around the room, cleaning or preparing something. All of a sudden their attention was drawn to the two ghosts who had just entered the room, namely Clockwork and me.
Most of their eyes widened at once and I heard a couple of ghosts gasp. "It's the Prince!" a little green skinned ghost girl with braided blonde hair wearing a maids outfit cried. They all started bowing and muttering apologies about the state of the castle.
"Um hi," I said, awkwardly waving my hand, "You really don't have to bow, I don't mean to interrupt whatever it is you guys are doing."
The ghosts stopped bowing and a male ghost with light blue skin and slicked back white hair wearing what looked like an old fashioned butler's uniform stepped forward. When he spoke he had an English accent, "Greatest apologies sire. We were not expecting you so soon. The castle isn't even fully ready for your celebration."
I furrowed my brows in confusion, "My celebration?" I looked at Clockwork who was now in his toddler form, "Do you know what they are talking about?"
My mentor nodded, "Your birthday is coming up soon is it not?"
My birthday? I had completely forgotten about it in all the craziness that had been happening lately. "Yeah, I guess it is," I replied rubbing the back of my neck.
"Well," continued Clockwork, "The Observants had the 'brilliant' idea to announce your new status on the day you gained your ghost powers. So they began to prepare the castle for your birthday so then it would be ready for the announcement the five days after."
Yep, five days after my birthday is when this ghost business began. "But why have it ready in time for my birthday?" I asked.
Clockwork adjusted the time on his staff as he said, "So it looks nice when you tell your friends and family about this." My eyes widened, "And what makes you think I'm going to tell them about this?"
The Master of Time gave me a serious look, "Because there is no way that you will be able to keep you being the next King of the Ghost Zone from your friends and eventually you will have to tell your parents."
I crossed my arms and turned away from him, "I could try."
Clockwork placed his small hand on my shoulder, "Danny, I am not going to make you tell your friends and family about this, but I suggest you do."
I hung my head, running my gloved hands through my hair. "I just don't think on top of me being half ghost, my friends and family could handle me being a future King," I said to my mentor.
"Um, excuse me sire?" a voice with an English accent said. I turned to face the butler who had spoke to me just a few moments ago. How do I keep forgetting about other people, or ghosts I guess, that are in the room with me.
"Um, yes?" I said.
"If it is alright with you sire, we would like to get back to our duties," the ghost butler said. I stood up straight, trying to look like a future King, "Yeah, of course."
The ghost nodded and all the other ghosts went back to doing whatever they were doing before I arrived.
I turned around to exit the room, "Oh wait sire! One more thing," a ghost called. I turned to face the ghost, it was another butler type ghost who had green skin and balding black hair wearing an old fashioned uniform.
"Yes? Is everything okay?" I asked the ghost.
Smoothing his hair and suit the ghost replied, "Everything is fine sire but you have a guest waiting for you in the throne room."
With that the butler ghost went back to his duties. "A guest? The Observants?" I asked Clockwork, who had shifted into his elder form, but he was already heading for the staircase on the other side of the.... main room I guess?
'I need to study castles when I get home' I thought as I started after Clockwork.
One huge staircase later
The doors leading to the throne room were huge. They were a solid black with green swirled markings. "Danny," Clockwork said bringing my attention to him, "Before we go in there promise me that you will not do anything rash."
I tilted my head in confusion, "What do you mean by that?" Clockwork just shook his head, "You will see."
With that he phased through the doors and I followed suit. The throne room was huge but I didn't have much time to admire it because my attention was drawn to a familiar ghost with a flaming purple cape and glowing green sword.
"Fright Knight!" I shouted flying straight at the Spirit of Halloween.
