Chapter Three
Many, many eons later...
My sword came down in a fast descent and he barely managed to block. Our swords were engaged in a deadly dance, neither of us could afford to lose. And then I noticed his error.
When he moved to strike at my left side, I fell to the ground and swung my foot out, sweeping him off his feet and causing him to land with a grunt. My twin swords were at his throat and he groaned.
"You always win." I loosened my grip around the hilt of the swords and they dissappeared, only appearing if I tightened my grip enough. I helped him to his feet and patted his back. "Better luck next time." I replied and chuckled as he walked off to a dinner that had started half an hour ago.
I snapped my fingers and everythig flew back into place, before running after him and falling into stride. Kai, otherwise known as Klemenis (Merciful), was the first person I befriended when I arrived. Brown hair and silver eyes were now a familiar sight. Jesna had shown me around the kingdom, then led me to the army camp, where she performed an initiation. I swore my loyalty to her and her cause.
After two centurys of servitude, she saw potential in me, and allowed me to create a small army for myself. Which consisted of a few friends from the past; Furlone Cadon, Starmine Leonar, and a few new friends from the present, like 'Menis.
Dinner went by in a flash, before the air stiffened and Jesna appeared with a cloud of black smoke. "I've a mission for the six of you." She said and took her seat at the head of the table. Today her hair was up in a slick ponytail and she wore the same dress she'd worn the say she found me. "And I do not care for protests or such, you will complete the mission and return home. Understood?" We nodded our understanding and she rubbed her temples.
"My brother, Mikno, is planning to rise. Ever since the dark ages I have tried to keep him in check, but with all his followers and whatnot, he grows stronger as I grow weary. I believe that the first place he will overthrow is Earth, the land of the gods."
"With all due respect, Lady Jesna, what is the mission exactly?" Furlone asked. Jesna sighed, "Go to Earth. Help my younger brethren, save them if you must. Defeat Mikno if he is to rise. Return home without complaint." "Then we shall fulfill it to the limits of our strengths, m'lady." Starmine bowed and flicked her wrist, her black bow materialising out of thin air. "When do we leave?" Another one of our comrades, Maximos, was like a wilder version of a friend from the past. With dyed bright red hair, pure black eyes and his fascination with machinery, I thought he'd be a good asset for the team.
"As soon as possible, please." Jesna replied and rubbed her temples again, before bursting into a cloud of smoke and leaving me in charge.
I couldn't go back there. Not to them. They all thought I was dead for thirteen years, then when I tried to go home, the Inaili chased me down and almost killed me. But on the other hand, I was not weak-willed. I could not let such emotions get the better of me.
"Maximos, have the ship ready and loaded in five. Everyone else, get your cloaks, hoods, and masks. Meet at the docks and be ready for anything." I commanded and my team split.
The engines roared to life and I sat at the control panel with Maximos. I guided us carefully out of the docks, while he checked vitals and announced that we were 2.78% to survive jumping through worm holes.
"That's all we need." I remarked and we shot forwards, faster than the speed of light.
I gave control over to Maximis as we passed the Earths moon and headed to the back, where the rest of my team were sitting on their bunks and chatting. "Is everyone cloaked?" I asked my second in command, Furlone. "Sir, yes sir." He replied and mock-saluted me.
I headed down the small hallway and into the bathroom to change. My everydaywear came off and I changed into the black, short-sleeved, jumpsuit everyone else was wearing. I clipped the white cloak around my shoulders and positioned the hood around my neck. Gold lined the outside of the cloak, while silver lined the suit. My combat boots were on and I pinned the two small pins of my twin swords on my belt.
The person staring back at me in the mirror was a warrior. Someone I never thought in a million years I would become. My hair was longer than when I was still loyal to the Inaili. It now reached my shoulders and the front of it was pulled back and tied in a half-bun. My eyes were colder and held no emotions whatsoever. A long scar ran over my left eye from my banishment eons ago, and I couldn't help but clench my jaw, knowing that the people who did this to me needed my help. Requested my help specifically.
"Docking in commense. Dimension Three, Earth, Heria. Awaiting orders, Chief. " Maximos' voice rang over the intercom and I straightened up. My soldiers wouldn't see me like this.
I pulled the hood over my head, covering everything up besides the tip of my nose and downwards. It was enchanted so I could see through it, and only I could remove it. "Formation Six." I barked as the cargo door was lowered. My soldiers formed behind me in a 'V' shape. Before the doors were even fully opened, I grabbed hold of a rope on the side of the doorway and leapt out of the ship, my teammates behind me.
A tug on the rope and I landed squarely on my feet in the center of the Herian throne room. "Who are you?" A voice boomed and I turned calmly to see Munstar in his throne. "We are the Order of Jesna. Sent here by the majesty herself because you requested my aid." "You are Kelios? The one Jesna informed us about?" I nodded my head in the direction of Feonia's curious voice. Kelios. Why had I chosen such an obvious name? Because I needed to keep something from my old life to ascend to my new one, a requirement for the army. So why not choose the trusty blade that saved my life many a times?
And then I noticed the crowd. The Inaili Council was there, no doubt, but the thing that made me internally cringe was the amount of campers gathered in the throne room. I tried to ignore them, but curiosity caused me to glance over and there they were.
Gune. Smothna. Flamnos. Gem. Shnar. Lena. They stood at the front of the campers, acting like they were of high power. Like they didn't seal my fate. Gune seemed to notice that someone was staring at him and glared over in my direction, then turned back to face his father. Munstar stood from his throne and glowered down at us. "You swear on the Mother Tree that you are who you say you are? That you will help us?" My comrades looked to me, but I couldn't speak. I couldn't move. My father was sat on his throne, and like the other members of the council, had an Inaili standing at the foor of it. He'd replaced me. I was forgotten like yesterdays news.
"We swear to you that we are the Order of Jesna. And we shall aid you to the best of our abilities." Furlone answered for me behind his black cloak.
I felt numbness spread through me at the reality of my situation. These people had wanted me dead, they'd hunted me down like prey and almost achieved their goal. Why should I be risking my life for them?
Because you are not weak. Jesna's voice rang through my mind and I groaned. You are a hero. Then she was gone.
"-set up accompdation at the camps." One of the Inaili's finished off their sentence.
"Good. We shall split. Three at one camp, three at another. Who's to go where, Chief?" A girl, Alethea, asked me. Under her cloak, she had short white hair and misty grey eyes. I snapped out of my daze. "Alethea, Klemenis, and Furlone, the three of you shall head to Camp Jupiter. Maximos, Starmine, and I will stay at Camp Half-Blood."
After my group was assembled, we spilt everything about our past lives: our names, our happiest memories, our saddest, and anything in between. So I could understand the strange looks they were giving me. Even though the hoods were enchanted, only anyone with the Mark of Jesna could see through them.
"Very well. Our generals will escort you to your respective camps." Munstar said and gestured to the six of them and my replacement.
We split into the groups of three that I'd decided on and waited for the Inaili to sort themselves out. "In my absence, Furlone- you are in charge. If the camps are attacked, defend them with your dying breath. Understood?" They nodded and the three of them were taken away by Gune, Gem, and Shnar. Which meant that I got the worse of the lot: Lena, Flamnar, Smothna, and the kid that stood before Kurstar's throne. Starmine and Maximos stood on either side of me and we waited for our escorts. "Hello. We'll be your guides for your stay here." Smothna said and I could practically feel the command speak coming out of her mouth.
I was about to call her out on it but Starmine beat me to the chase. "We do not appreciate your attempted command speak, girl." She spat and Smothna feigned innocence. "I wasn't using my powers." She laced her words carefully, but Starmine glowered at her nonetheless.
Stupid, girl. I heard her voice clearly in my head. "Show us to your camp. Thanks to you, we've missed our hourly training session." Maximos said. The trio of Inaili shared a look, before leading us to what looked like a portal and stepping through. "I will not be enjoying this." I muttered to myself, half hoping that Jesna had heard me.
I stepped through the cool surface of the portal and came out of the other side, landing besides Maximos and Starmine.
