24. His Darkness Within

Y/N's POV

I was awoken by a gentle knock on the bedroom door. I wanted to ignore that sound but my brain refused to let me.

"Who is it?" I mumbled, looking at the door.

Narcissa Malfoy walked in with some breakfast on a tray. She looked at me and placed the tray by my bedside.

"The Dark Lord wants to see you later today." she informed me.

"Do you know for what?" I asked her.

She shook her head and looked at me. "Unfortunately not."

I groaned and reached over to grab my breakfast.

Narcissa took a few tenetaive steps towards me before looking at me. "Are you ok Y/N?"

"Never been better." I said sarcastically.

I looked up at the Malfoy woman who looked back down at me with sympathetic eyes. "If there's anything I can do, let me know Y/N."

I gave her a thankful nod as she left my room, leaving me alone with my tray of food. Consuming that as slowly as possible to delay my inevitable time with Voldemort, it took me around an hour to finish it.

After getting changed out of my pyjamas, I proceeded to walk down the Malfoy Manor steps and down to the main room where I assumed Voldemort would be.

"You're late." Voldemort hissed at me, Nagini by his side.

"You gave me no specific time to be down here grandfather," I countered, "I merely ate my breakfast and came down."

Voldemort looked at me, his eyes narrowed before gesturing to an empty seat beside him.

"What am I doing today?" I asked him, making eye contact.

Nagini slithered onto my lap and I made no signs of fear as she coiled herself around my neck.

"You wanted me here so Nagini could have some breakfast of her own?" I asked, an amused look on my face.

Voldemort let out a dry laugh. "Of course not my heir, today we will be spending some time here before going out into the world."

"Would it not be dangerous for you to be out? What if the Aurors find you?" I questioned.

"That's not my main concern. I just want to see you prove yourself." Voldemort replied.

"Have I not already proved myself?" I questioned. "At the Ministry? I came when I wasn't needed."

Voldemort looked at me. "I know you did but I want to see you, on your own, proving your capabilities and loyalty to my beliefs."

I remained straight-faced and emotionless. "So you want me to kill some Muggles?"

"Exactly. Smart brain you have my boy." Voldemort said, evidently pleased. "We're going to kill some Muggle scum."

I almost winced at the phrase 'Muggle scum'. I didn't want to kill any Muggles. I didn't want to hurt any Muggles. I didn't want to hurt anyone right now apart from Voldemort and Dumbledore.

Voldemort rose from the chair he was sitting on and beckoned me to come down to the same room we went to during the summer where he 'trained' me.

"Stand there." Voldemort ordered.

I stood there. Wand in hand, staring at Voldemort.

"CRUCIO!" Voldemort yelled, pointing his wand directly at me.

The pain was intense, the pain was consuming and I struggled to contain my yells and cries of pain. I clenched my jaw as I fell to my knees, trying to ignore the mind-numbing pain I was being put through.

Once Voldemort had stopped, I was left on the ground, almost paralysed and merciless at his feet.

"GET UP!" Voldemort yelled at me. "GET UP! GET UP! GET UP!"

I stumbled slightly as I rose to my feet, I wiped the blood from my chin as looked at Voldemort.

"You showed weakness," Voldemort scolded, "although it wasn't as bad as...others, you still showed weakness."

Weakness? I think it was a pretty fucking big achievement to suppress my screams and cries of agony. What did he expect me to do? Smile happily as the most excruiciating pain entered and filled my body? I think the fuck not.

"We're going to try again, and again, and again until you show me that it doesn't affect you." Voldemort informed me.

He casted the curse on me yet again and the same pain rushed through me. I tried to block it, I tried to do something to show that I could be immune to it, but I failed. For the second time, I was lying at Voldemort's feet.

This happened over and over again until the fifth time, I felt like it was over.

This was it, I was going to die.

But I couldn't die?

Voldemort couldn't kill me.

So why did it hurt so much?

"You're weak." Voldemort spat. "No heir of mine will be weak."

I was just about to lose my consciousness when a sudden wave of anger coursed through me and I scrambled up to my feet and pointed my wand straight at Voldemort.

"CRUCIO!"

The spell hit him and I could see him let out a scream of pain as he staggered and fell to the ground. I stopped myself after a while and looked down at Voldemort, now he was at my feet. My E/C eyes looked darkly down at the weak man below me.

"Grandfather, I think you should stop. You can't kill me but I can sure as hell kill you."

Voldemort looked at me and there wasn't even anger in his eyes, there was pride. I walked away from the room and left Voldemort in there, making my way to the bathroom to clean myself up before Voldemort took me out to go make life hell for some Muggles.

When I next saw Voldemort again, he looked at me with the slightest hint of respect.

Although I hadn't officially gotten my Apparation licsense, I still aparated to the location Voldemort wanted me to go. It was an isolated house, in the middle of nowhere, if this was a horror movie this would be the house that either the murderer lived in or the murderer would go to kill someone.

How ironic.

"I want you to kill everyone in there." Voldemort instructed me.

I looked at him. I couldn't say no, I had to do this. Voldemort stayed back as I walked towards the house, my heart beating extremely loudly and quickly.

I knocked on the door before stepping back. Seconds later, the door opened and it revealed a middle-aged man with light brown hair.

"How can I help you son?" he asked me.

"I-I don't know where I am," I lied, "this was the first house that I saw."

The man looked at me, kindness in his eyes, I was dreading this already. "Come in."

I walked into the house and it was a very pleasant atmosphere.

"Who's that dad?" a boy who seemed to be around my age asked.

The man looked at me. "Oh...uh, I'm Y/N. Y/N L/N." I said, it would be safe to use my real name here.

"You're cute." the teenage girl said, looking up at me from the dinner table.

I gulped.

"You're making him uncomfortable sweetie." their mother said.

"Come sit down, you can sit next to Nick." the man said, sitting down in his own seat.

I moved slowly and sat down on the chair, my legs were shaking and my heart was still beating rapidly.

"I'm Ryan Sawyer," the man said, "that's my wife Addison."

The woman gave me a sweet smile and waved at me.

Ryan continued, he pointed at the two teenage kids. "And these are my kids, Nick and Lily."

"How you doing?" Nick said, giving me a smile.

They invited me to have some of their lunch but I politely declined.

"Do you want to use our phone? To call your parents?" Addison asked me.

I shook my head. "Uh...do you know where the toilet is?"

"I'll show you." Lily said, getting up from my seat and grabbing my hand.

"I have a girlfriend." I said quickly, making sure that she didn't get any wrong ideas. It was a lie considering that I ended things with Hermione but I still was loyal towards her.

She raised an eyebrow at me. "Don't flatter yourself, there's the toilet."

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I quickly turned and faced Lily and took my wand out.

Lily snickered at me. "Nice wand Merlin."

I sighed. "I'm so sorry. Avada Kedavra!"

Lily's eyes went lifeless and she thumped onto the ground. I looked at her and fighted the urge to cry.

I made my way back to the dining room, all the three remaining family members looked up at me.

"Where's Lils?" Nick asked me.

"I think she went to her room." I lied.

I focused my mind on the lamp in their room. Using non-verbal magic, I sent the lamp flying across the room, hitting Addison in the head and knocking her unconscious and bleeding on the floor.

Nick and Ryan looked at me.

"Avada Kedavra!" I casted, the blinding green jet of light striking Ryan squarely on the chest as he fell to the ground, the life disappearing from his eyes.

Nick looked at me. "What the hell..."

He made his way to the door but I beat him to it. "PETRIFICUS TOTALUS!"

Nick was rooted to the spot, leaving me only Addison to deal with. With one quick spell, her life was ended and three members of the Sawyer family were dead.

I performed the counter-spell on Nick and grabbed him before he could run away from me.

"GET. OFF. ME!" Nick yelled, trying to free himself from me.

"Listen to me," I told him carefully, "you're going to get out of here and you're going to run into that forest. If you want to stay alive you're going to hide until I find you. If you don't trust me then you're going to die. Simple as that."

Nick looked at me fearfully and scampered out the back door of his house. I walked out the front door and not even looking back, I casted a simple spell that destroyed both the bodies and the house.

"Incendio."

The scariest part was that when I walked out the door of that house in front of the burning fires, I felt nothing.

In fact, it felt quite exhilarating.
