Chapter 7 Captain America
This is about two months later than the previous chapter.

The headquarters Skye had found for us was almost perfect. There was plenty of space for everyone, even Skye and all her computers that she had accumulated.
Red Wing made frequent trips to Skye's Computer Central, as everyone had started calling it, for repairs, or going to pick up things that Sam had requested.
A small robot, modeled after R2-D2 rolled into the room I was sitting in. It beeped and threw a paper airplane at me. I caught the airplane as the droid made a long wailing sound and spun around and around.
"You can go now," I told it irritably.
It's short arms dropped and it beeped once before rolling out the door. I hadn't figured out how to understand it yet.
I unfolded the airplane. It was in Skye's handwriting and it looked urgent.
I hope R2 brings this to the right person this time. (If you aren't the Captain please get this to him thanks)
I found out what the guy you dropped the building on (I have absolutely no idea what his name actually is, but Crossbones seems appropriate) is looking for. It's a little vial of some bio-hazard chemical. It's very dangerous and could explode if it gets dropped. I know where he's going next too. We need a plane to Lagos, Nigeria ASAP.
-Skye (as if I needed to say that I'm the only one with access to R2-D2 most of the time.
I sighed. This note should have been sent to Tony, he was the one who usually got the planes, or Quinjets, for the team. However, Skye had been holding a grudge on Tony and refused to send him anything. She worked her tail off doing odd tech jobs for the other Avengers and hunting for Bucky in her spare time.
Vision walked through the wall. I looked up at him. "Perfect! Just the person I need right now. Could you tell Tony to get a Quinjet ready for the team to go to Lagos, Nigeria?"
Vision nodded. "Of course Captain." He walked back out through the opposite wall.
I stood up and walked over to the speaker control that Skye had added to the building. "Avengers, suit up. We're-"
"Going on a vacation!" Skye interrupted. " And there will be a certain sideline helper for unlocking doors and vaults and such. You're welcome."
I rolled my eyes. "Skye I would rather you not come."
"Too bad."
Sam poked his head around my door. "She's stubborn as a mule. There's no way you're convincing her not to come."
"I almost had that figured out," I said.
I changed into my gear after Sam left. My shield stuck to my back with a metallic thump. Someone rapped on my door.
I walked over and opened the door. Skye stood there waiting for me, she was wearing a silver jacket that seemed to be made of small pieces of metal that flexed when she moved, her pants were the same, only gold. She looked a little annoyed. "Why doesn't Vision use the doors?"
I shrugged. "Ask him not me."
Skye sighed and followed me down the hall. R2-D2 drove behind us until Skye told him that he was going to stay.
I pushed the door to outside open. Everyone had gathered in the parking lot. Tony was in his full Iron Man suit. He walked over to me. "The Quinjet should be here in a minute or two."
I nodded and glanced at Skye. She looked like she was multitasking. Her arms each had a screen on the wrists and she held a tablet in her hands. She kept glancing at the sky, then back at one of her screens.
Tony tilted his head at her. "What are you wearing?"
"Armor," she said distractedly. "That ship's almost here. Oh sweet! It's all remote controlled!"
Tony frowned and narrowed his eyes. "How do you know that?"
Skye looked up long enough to give him an amused look. "I've got mad skills."
There was a humming sound as the Quinjet came into view and sank toward the parking lot. It landed and I jogged up to it. "Everyone on board!" I called. "I'm driving, Skye is copilot!"
Skye slid passed me, still looking at her tablet. As she entered, the lights turned on and everything started to turn on. "There we go! Much better!"
I smiled and climbed on board, sitting down in the pilots seat and showing Skye all of the controls.
I looked out the second story window pushing the curtains out of the way. "What do you see down there?"
"I see Skye looking like a complete dork in her shiny outfit with her tablet," Natasha said her voice filled with amusement.
"Other than our very odd computer dork," Tony clarified blandly.
Skye didn't respond, I guessed that she had heard and chose to ignore his comment.
"There's an ATM with a camera on the corner," Wanda said. "That means this guy-"
"Crossbones," Skye interrupted. "Sorry. I'll shut up now."
"Please don't, we'll need you soon I think. Anyway, Crossbones isn't afraid of being seen."
There was a moment of silence. I looked down at the streets. They were crowded with people. They were all parting for a garbage truck. I watched it for a moment.
"What's with the garbage truck?" Skye asked just as I opened my mouth. "I thought the garbage didn't get taken care of until Thursday and it's Tuesday."
"Thank you Techy," Tony said sarcastically. "We had no idea what day of the week it was."
"Calm down Tony," Sam said. I saw Red Wing fly above the crowds toward the truck. "She's right. Skye can you get the info? I can't see my screen well enough."
"Yeah. Holy moly," Skye gave a low whistle. "It's loaded to the limit. Maximum weight, reinforced..." I could almost hear the nervousness in her voice. "It's a battering ram. As much weight as it can handle, along with a reinforced front. That's how their getting into the building. I'm putting it in lock-down. That should give them a bit of trouble."
"No," I said, starting for the stairs that lead outside. "Don't lock it down. We don't need people dying because they get stuck."
"Sure thing Captain. Cancelling lock-down."
I got to the street in time to see the truck driver dive out of the truck just before it crashed into the gate and exploded. I ran down the street with Wanda and Natasha behind me. An X-wing style drone shot over my head, peppering the ground with bullets around where a group of enemy soldiers had gotten out of a large van. Two of them fell, but otherwise, Skye's drone wasn't very helpful.
As if she had read my mind Skye said sarcastically, "Well that was helpful."
"No offense Skye, but it wasn't really," Sam said. He swooped over our heads and shot up to the roof.
I threw my shield and it knocked out one of the soldiers, putting a large dent in the van, and flew back toward me. I caught it and swung it around, knocking it into the face of the man closest to me. Natasha ran after the group headed for the building, but got tackled out of the way and was forced to let them go. Wanda stood back a ways and shot balls of red energy from her hands.
"They're almost to the weapon," Skye warned. I could almost hear her tapping the screen of her tablet. "Aaaand they just threw a bomb of poisonous gas down. Oh wow, it's green. That's never good."
"You are such a genius," Tony said.
"Oh stop it, both of you," I ordered. "Wanda, you ready?"
"What about the gas?" Wanda asked, looking up at the fifth story where the windows were fogged with green gas.
"Get rid of it!" I started running at the van, jumping onto the hood and using it as a ramp of sorts. "Now!"
I jumped and Wanda's red energy pushed me up and through the window. Glass rained down around me and I held my breath. Three people were waiting for me. I pulled the gas mask off the first and threw my shield at the second before swinging the third into a column.
I caught my shield and jogged through the hallways to the place Skye had said the weapon was. It was gone. "Of course," I sighed. "They've got it. I need anyone available to go after it."
"On it!" Natasha and Sam said.
I broke the nearest window and jumped down curling into a ball with my shield below me. The pavement cracked when I landed. I got up and started off in the direction I'd seen Crossbones go.
"Two left," Sam said. "I lost 'em."
"I didn't," Natasha said.
I saw Crossbones and focused on him, blocking out everyone else, but listening carefully for anything Skye or Tony would say.
"Come on Nat!" Skye said. "Just thank it. His name's Red Wing."
"I am not thanking that thing," Natasha stated calmly.
"Drat."
Crossbones spun around and threw a punch, which I blocked with my shield. He was wearing reinforced gauntlets. "Skye," I said, retreating a couple of steps. "He's wearing tech, can you break it?"
"Only if it has a computer in it," Skye said. "I'll give it a shot."
The gauntlets let out a loud squeal and Skye yelped. "Scratch that, there is definitely a computer in there. He just made this tablet useless. Viruses are so annoying."
"At least you have more," Sam said.
Crossbones came at me again. I grabbed his gauntlets and yanked them off, catching him by his collar.
"You've failed," I growled.
He smiled cruelly. "Your pal Bucky mentioned you. Just before they took his memories again."
"Bucky... they can't have him. He's lying..." I could tell Skye was now paying attention from the way she trailed off.
Even though Skye had just told me he was lying, I still wanted to know more. "Did he?"
Crossbones' smile grew. There was an explosion. I let go of him quickly, but the fire never touched me. He was surrounded by a glowing red light. I looked to my right and saw Wanda, concentrating hard with her hands stretched toward me.
A sudden look of fear spread across her face and Crossbones jerked up and flew into the side of a building. The explosion continued, blasting a hole in the corner. The whole building started to collapse.
Wanda put her hands over her mouth in horror, tears welling in her eyes.
Skye screeched. "I think I need to leave this place right now!" she shouted.
I looked at the base of the building that was now collapsing feeling a twinge of fear. "Where are you?"
"I'm-" she interrupted herself with a yelp of surprise. "FALCON!"
"You're welcome!" Sam said.
I saw Sam's red wings twist out of the way of falling chunks of concrete. Skye must have been close to the building. I could see her glimmering "armor" in Sam's arms.
People were running, trying to get away from the building. We needed to leave. I closed my eyes and turned away, wishing there was a way to save them all.
The ground shook as the building hit the ground. I opened my eyes and jogged toward Wanda, gently putting a hand on her shoulder. "Let's go."
She nodded, looking at her feet as I led her back toward where the Quinjet was waiting to take us home.
