Chapter 6 The Hacker

SURPRISE!

_________

Heeeeeeellllllllooooooooo? Come on I know you got there by now. I'm literally looking at the map.

I'd been trying to contact Buck since he'd arrived at his new hideout just before noon. He hadn't responded. I knew he hadn't turned the tablet off because I could still put things on it. I knew he'd been using it because there were windows open that I hadn't opened, but he hadn't responded to any of my attempts to talk.

Someone tapped on the door frame. I jumped, quickly closing out of the tablet and looking up. Sam stood in the doorway holding his jet pack wings.

"Hey Falcon," I said. "What do you need?"

"A couple things actually," he said. He waved to my office with a smile. "Can I..."

"Knock your socks off." I pushed my chair back and cleared a spot on my desk.

Sam came over and set his wings on the desk before clearing off my extra chair that I had been using as a bonus shelf. "I was wondering if you could make a drone type thing that could fit in this slot that I could control from this." He took out a cuff with a computer screen on it.

I took the cuff and studied it, then looked at the small space on top of the wings. It was a perfect place for a jet style drone, and with all of the technology The Avengers had access to...

"I'm willing to try," I said with a grin. "What was the other thing?"

Sam's excited smile lingered as he spoke again. "I've heard Steve talking about a new headquarters. As far as I know he hasn't found one yet, but I'm willing to bet you could find the perfect place faster than anyone else on the team."

"I am so glad that someone around here trusts me," I said. "Tony didn't seem very thrilled about the idea of a hacker on the team."

Sam chuckled lightly. "Tony's an idiot sometimes." He got up and started for the door. "I'll leave you to drone building."

"You know where to find me if you need anything else!" I called after him.

I had just started assembling the little jet when someone else knocked. "Come on in. I seem pretty popular today," I said without looking up.

"That doesn't really surprise me," Steve said, leaning against the desk and peering over my computer. "I was wondering if you'd seen Janet, Pepper, T'Challa, Thor, or Bruce recently?"

"Last time I saw Bruce he was sitting at his desk doing something important. Thor told me he was going on a long journey. I haven't seen any of the other Avengers apart from you and Sam since you introduced me to them."

Steve frowned. "Huh... Bruce disappeared, I think I know where Thor went, I'll have to ask Tony about Pepper when he gets back. I was thinking about a new hea-"

"New headquarters?" I started building the computer and camera inside the jet, which I had decided to call Red Wing. "Sam asked me to find one. I postponed it because building a drone sounded like so much more fun."

Steve chuckled. "He wanted a drone? I suppose I shouldn't be surprised."

"I will let you know when I find a new headquarters how's that?"

Steve smiled. "Alright. I will take that as my cue to leave."

"Thank you. Leave the door open."

I checked to make sure that Red Wing would still fit in the slot before closing off the computer section. I modified the cuff so that it would control Red Wing.

I paused, then slipped the cuff onto my arm and drew a circle. Red Wing buzzed and flew off my desk. The screen on the cuff showed what Red Wing saw. I steered him out the door and through the hallways, looking for Sam.

"Come on Falcon," I murmured. "Where are you?"

I had Red Wing speed up, shooting down the hallways. I pulled him up short when I saw Sam inside an office through a window in the door, which was closed. I made Red Wing bump against the glass until he looked up.

A broad grin spread across his face and he quickly got up and opened the door. "I assume you want me to come over and pick up my gear?"

I bounced Red Wing up and down, hoping Sam got the point and started driving him back to my office at full speed. I landed him on my desk and turned him off.

Red Wing blended in perfectly with Sam's wings. I took off the cuff and set it down next to the wings. I decided that I would start looking for the new headquarters that Sam and Steve had asked me to find.

"Okay, how does he work?" Sam asked excitedly.

I looked up and handed him the cuff. "It's really easy. Draw a circle there, that will turn Red Wing on. After that, you'll see the camera. You can steer him with the wheel in the bottom corner and the little button in the top right corner is a high power gun. I wouldn't recommend testing that inside."

Sam grinned. "Red Wing? I like it. Thanks!"

"Anything for The Avengers," I said, returning his smile. "Except for Tony. I most likely wouldn't do anything for him unless Cap told me to."

"He told me to correct you anytime you called him Cap or Captain, but I don't think I will. Not after making me a really awesome battle bird."

I gasped. "That is a really awesome name! I'll make you some backups later."

Sam smirked. "A really awesome name for a really awesome thing."

"For sure. You can now go play with your toys. I can tell you're itching to try everything out."

"That I am." Sam picked up his wings and left, still grinning.

I kept looking through large buildings that we could use for a headquarters.

After about an hour of searching I found a building just outside of none other than my hometown. New York City. Well, there really is no leaving home for good. I copied the link and sent it to Steve with the message 'Guess what I found?'

Hey everyone! Hope you all enjoyed the chapter. Please don't kill me for updating this again instead of Speed Demons or Rookie's Flight. I'm sorry but I really wasn't getting anything down in either one, so I switched.

If you have any characters you want me to add let me know. I'm not afraid to completely destroy all boundaries (as I'm sure most of you have noticed by now).

May the wind blow strong in your sails! Have a good day (or night) Avengers!
