Chapter 18 The Hacker

HOW IS FELICITY LAWFUL GOOD? I mean seriously. She's a hacker and she finds people for Oliver to kill. How? Someone explain.

______________________________

I followed behind Bucky and Steve. I didn't want them to slow down, but they did anyway. Bucky looked back at me multiple times, probably to make sure I was still okay. I made a point of ignoring the pain in my chest as I followed behind them.

Bucky led us through a maze of metal hallways to a rusty elevator. I eyed it suspiciously. If that thing was in working order I was going to be so amazed. I kept my right hand next to the pistol I'd "stolen" from the quinjet.

Bucky grabbed the door with his metal arm and forced it open. The metal shrieked a complaint and I winced. The elevator looked like it was in much better shape after the door was opened. Bucky stood to the side and let Steve and I pass.

After we were all inside, Bucky typed something into a keypad. We started going down at normal elevator speed. It was even complete with awful music, "Raindrops keep falling on my head."

The song made me giggle a bit when I remembered Percy telling me about his first elevator ride to Olympus. It was the same song he had described. Bucky and Steve each gave me an odd look. That didn't help with my laughing fit, but I managed to stop.

The elevator made a grinding sound as it stopped. I braced myself for the cable to break and send us falling to our doom. Amazingly, that didn't happen and the doors slid open smoothly without a sound.

Bucky took the lead again and we started up a small flight of metal steps toward a door. I was last again, by choice again. I heard a metallic clink behind me and I whipped around, pulling out my pistol and pointing it in front of me. From the new 'behind me,' I heard Bucky's gun click and both of them turn around.

In front of us, stood a red and gold suit. My first thought was, 'hello Iron Man', but quickly remembered that his suit wasn't iron. It was a gold-titanium alloy if I remembered correctly.

Tony held up his hands in a gesture that was probably meant to be peaceful. I, however, knew what his gloves could do and tensed. "Some people are in a good mood today," he commented.

"It's been a long day," Steve said warily. He came down the two steps he'd been on to stand at my side.

I didn't hear Bucky move, and I didn't move either. I glared at Tony, my finger still over the trigger of my pistol. I had a terrible feeling about this.

"At ease you two," Steve said, glancing back at Bucky.

I hesitated before I lowered my gun. I gave Tony another scowl and retreated behind Steve so that I was next to Bucky. I glanced at Bucky and noticed that the red star on his shoulder was fading. I would have to repaint it once we were done.

"What do you want Tony?" Steve asked.

Tony lowered his hands. "I was sent to bring you in. I had forty-eight hours about fifty-two hours ago."

   I snorted. "Late much?"

"Only because of you," he responded. "How did you manage to undo the tracker?"

I stopped and frowned. Tracker... tracker... what? "Tracker?"

Steve interrupted us by saying, "Bucky didn't set off that bomb. We're trying to stop the person who did."

"I'll join you," Tony said. The helmet of his suit folded back and he looked at me. "What? I'm already late. What's the harm in being a little later?"

I groaned inwardly. "Great," I said sarcastically. I put my pistol back into my pocket and pulled out my tablet.

Tony looked over my shoulder and I tilted the screen away from him. "You don't get to see how I work my magic. You might be able to track me then."

Tony sighed loudly and moved away. "Unlikely."

Bucky took the lead again, glancing suspiciously back at Tony multiple times as we walked. I understood his suspicion. I was rather suspicious myself, but I tried to hide it. I don't know how well that went.

We reached a large metal door that stood part way open. Bucky shoved it all the way open and walked inside. I followed behind Steve but made sure I was ahead of Tony.

I almost slipped as soon as I stepped through the door. The floor was covered with a weird yellow liquid that dripped from eight huge tubes. Each one had a bullet hole in the glass and the base of each was cracked. Inside each tube was a person, each with various metal limbs.

Bucky stopped next to the first one and ran a hand over the bullet hole. His gaze hardened and he turned away. Walking a distance away from the tubes, his shoulders tense. I followed him, despite half my mind telling me it was a bad idea.

"Bucky?" I said cautiously. I didn't want to startle him and have him knock me into something else.

Bucky looked at me for a second, then up at the ceiling. "What?"

I walked up beside him. "Are you alright?"

Bucky looked back at me and managed a small smile. "Not really, but I'll recover."

   "Were they all like you?"

He nodded and looked over to Tony and Steve, who were both watching something on a screen. Steve readjusted his shield several times and glanced over at the two of us. It was almost like he was checking to see if we were still alive.
