Chapter 6

Deep breaths you'll be fine, I chanted to myself for the tenth time.

Looking down at the knee high ruby red dress, the elbow length sleeves were slit at the sides revealing the pale skin of my arms. The neckline dipped slightly displaying a decent amour of my breasts but still keeping it classy. The gold beaded design in the middle hugged my waist showing off my slightly curvy figure, matched with simple red heels I blended in to the crowd. My soft blonde hair was pulled back into a high elegant ponytail leaving a strand or two out flowing around my face.

The dress was perfect but that's wasn't why I was short five seconds of a panic attack. No it was the fact the the large dinning area was packed with reporters, gossip magazines, there was even a news camera. Blood pounding I felt a tightening in my chest suddenly feeling suffocated in the spacious room.

"I can't do this." I whispered feeling breathless

Darting my eyes around the large overly decorated room I searched frantically for an exit. This was a stupid idea, a stupid, embarrassing idea! What was I thinking?

Turning on my heels I felt a hand grip my wrist stopping me from fleeing the glamorous hotel like a scared schoolgirl.

"Yes, you can because I'll be here with you." Wes said reeling me back to his side

Biting my bottom lip I could have cared less about my lipstick as I took in the large crowd. After the announcement everyone flooded into the petal pink ballroom bombarding Stacy and Greg with questions.

Lifting my limp hand up he entwined his large fingers with my slender smaller one.

"It won't be so bad, come on let's get a drink."

Nodding, I didn't really have a choice as Wes led me through the crowd towards the open bar where there seemed to have been a few people hitting the liquor early. Maybe they had fake dates too. Wes called over the bartender.

"I'll have a glass of white wine."

The bartender didn't seem surprised as he reached behind to fetch a bottle when Wes snorted calling the young man back.

"Two vodkas, straight." he said

Raising a curious brow the bartender bent down for the clear bottle and two glasses.

"Are you crazy? You can't get drunk here?" I hissed leaning closer so no one heard me

Wes's large hand dropped my hand and snaking around my waist, taken by complete surprise by the unexpected action I jumped leaning further against his chest. Grinning wickedly Wes took one glass handing it to me as he took one of his own.

"It's to calm you down." he answers clinking his glass to mine "Besides I don't get drunk." he added and downed the entire thing

Shaking his head he motioned for me to take a turn. Examining the clear liquid I debated whether I should or not. I've never drank pure alcohol but than again I never really had a reason to.

"Come on kitty." he encouraged

Ignoring the voice that screamed no I lifted my head back swinging the whole glass down in one gulp, regretting the reckless action right away. Like fire the vodka burned my throat as it slid down leaving a fiery trail after it. Hissing I placed my hand against my throat coughing slightly.

"At a girl." he said in a tone laced with humor

Taking the glass from my hand he slid it back to the bartender who was laughing to himself before returning to the other side of the bar.

"That was horrible." I croaked

"That's vodka for you." he chuckled turning my body away from the bar

Glaring up at him I opened my mouth to tell him off when I heard my mother calling my name. Freezing against Wes I started to walk the opposite direction when he nudged me forward to where she stood waving. With Stacy and Greg at her side along with a few others I couldn't quiet remember their names at the moment.

"Remember our story." I muttered as we approached the small group

Plastering a smile on I leaned in giving my mother a kiss on each cheek hating the ridiculous greeting she insisted on.

"Oh you look nice Khloe." my mom complimented as her soft caramel eyes took in my appearance

Nice. Just nice. To an on looker it would seem her compliment was genuine but I knew better than to believe she approved of what I was wearing. The crease between her brows was the first sign, the second was the way she frowned. Realizing her slip up she forced the too wide smile back. Muttering a stiff thank you I turned to the happy couple.

Stacy tightened her hold on Greg's silky grey suit jacket matching his trousers. The dress shirt was a soft shade of green matching the short cocktail dress, no surprise it had a massive dip leaving her silicon breasts out for display. Her long, tanned legs seemed endless due to the killer green pumps she had on. Her makeup was heavy bringing out our father's vibrant green eyes that I've always envied. Instead I had my mom's caramel colored eyes and dirty blonde hair that was nothing short of normal.

Dragging my eyes up to my ex-boyfriend I wanted to slap the pearly, perfect smile off his face. His icy blue eyes ran over my body in the same non-sexual way they did when we went out, without a hint of interest.

Straightening my shoulders I pushed his taunting insults away. There's no way I'm showing him any sign of pain and certainly not here at his engagement party.

"Congratulations on your engagement." I said with the same stupid smile

"Thank you Khloe, we're really happy your here." he said in that polite tone that was as natural as Stacy's dyed hair

Biting the inside of my cheek, I swallowed the venomous words sizzling on the tip of my tongue. Oh how I'd love to tell the cheating fucker off.

"Who is this?" Greg asked his stone like eyes drifting to the arm draped on my waist

Stacy leaned her breasts further against Greg's arm causing them to practically spill out of her dress. Her eyes narrowed on Wes as a the corners of her lips curved upwards.

"This is my boyfriend Wes." I introduced as he lifted his large tanned hand

"Gregory Hopkins." he replied shaking Wes's hand while not dropping eye contact "Nice to meet you."

"Like wise." Wes replied pulling his hand back

The hand at my waist tightened momentarily, holding my breath I felt the small silence stretching as Greg studied the man beside me, a familiar glint in his eyes as he did.

Did he know we weren't really together?

No, how could he know we just started this 'relationship' last night. Tangling my fingers together I hid them behind the small ruby clutch in my hands.

"So your engaged, how long have you dated?" Wes asked

Stiffening at his question it felt like a bucket of cold water being dumped on my head taking me by surprise.

"Nearly two years." Greg answered sparing a glance down at me

Clenching my fists to stop the trembling of my fingers as all eyes turned and locked on me. Panic formed itself in my chest in a size of a golf ball as a flash came from my left. A camera.

Wes whistled stepping forward so his lower half was hidden behind my body, his arm tightened around my waist.

"What took so long for you to propose?" Wes asked his voice as friendly as ever

"There was no need to rush." Greg replied in the perfect way he does and kissed Stacy's pink stained lips

"By that you mean you weren't ready for the ball and chain." Wes added causing the small crowd around us to chuckle

Faking a soft laugh I looked up at Wes who winked in response. To say I was taken back was an understatement. Despite his nerves earlier tonight Wes was doing an excellent job of fitting in. He made jokes, contributed to a conversation when he did it was witty and humorous. Through most of the night I had managed to avoid the subject of our relationship although the arm snaked around my waist did cause some brows to raise. The media seemed too engrossed with Greg and Stacy's engagement and the many other important people to bother glancing my way and for that I was grateful. With my mom busy entertaining friends I couldn't have been happier as Wes and I chatted with my father's golf partner/former mayor and his wife.

"Your hilarious Wes." Claudia his wife giggled placing her hand on Wes's forearm

"Thank you ma'am." he beamed that knee buckling smile

The elder woman blushed scarlet turning her flaming face away from view. Rolling my eyes I silently cursed the old woman's terrible attempt at flirting as all the other women who came near Wes did. Shamelessly throwing their hands all over him while batting their eyelashes. Did they not have a shred of dignity, he came with a date leeches. Lifting the thin champagne flute up to my lips I took a small sip.

"Polite and handsome." a friend of my mother said with a not so discreet wink at Wes "Your one lucky girl Khloe, how long have you been together?"

"Four months." I answered with a sweet smile

"Four hot months." Wes added his hand slowly creeping down my hip

Tangling her fingers together in an effort to remove his hand and gave his fingers a painful squeeze as a silent warning.

"Don't say that around her father." the silver haired man teased

Snorting softly at the laughable comment I turned away from the group of elders. My father who didn't care enough to free his schedule to attend his daughter's engagement party. Although the people surrounding me were friends and family they had no idea who their close 'friends' actually were like behind closed doors. My mother is not all smiles and sweet words. My father is not a good father and he sure the hell wouldn't care who I was with or what they said. It was an act that no one expected, hell even Stacy can't see past the illusion at times.

"Rick had urgent business and couldn't make it tonight but he's happy for them." my mother cooed joining the conversation

"Of course he does." I mumbled bitterly under my breath

Glancing over my shoulder I locked gazes with Wes who judging by his raised brow heard me. Dropping my hand from his I returned my attention to the conversation once again.

"Apparently he's not the only one." Claudia mumbled pointing to Greg who was exiting the room with his cellphone

"You know men and their work." Stacy said waving her hand

She offered everyone an assuring smile but the way her eyes followed his quickly retreating body told a different story. Clearing her throat she turned to me her bright green eyes narrowing on me.

"Speaking of work, what does your boyfriend do Khloe?" she asked

Tightening my hold on his fingers I felt my hands tremble at the sudden question thrown upon me. We went over everything earlier tonight for nearly an hour and on the way here I tested Wes. But I didn't think about his career.

"He.."

"I work at my family's restaurant." Wes cut in

"Do you run it?" Claudia asked

"With my sisters." he nodded

"How cute." Stacy said her tone nothing short of annoyed

Blinking away my surprise I released a breath I hadn't realized I was holding. Noticing our fingers were still entwined I loosened my death grip on his hand before losing the contact all together.

"Did you meet at your family's restaurant?" my mom asked

"No we-"

"If you don't mind sweetheart I'd like to tell the story this time." Wes interrupted placing his hand on my butt

Grinding my teeth together I fought my instinct to grab his wrist and twist his arm behind his back till he screams for mercy. I had to remind myself though of where we were to stop myself from doing just that. Grabbing his arm I slid it over my shoulder keeping my hand over his.

"Sure babe." I said rubbing my hand over the top of his

His grey eyes shimmered wickedly as he pulled me against his chest causing the group to burst into 'awes'. There is no way he can screw this up we've went over our meeting three times.

"One night after work I decided to go down to the club with a bunch of the guys and it so happens kitty kat here, was there too."

Smiling I played the story over in my head; I was sitting by the bar when he approached me with his sweet pickup lines, after a few drinks he asked me out and it was history from than on. It was a common story that was neither embarrassing nor unbelievable.

"She was sitting at the bar with the shortest, sexiest leather skirt on that could knock any man senseless and a firetruck red mid drift."

My smile dropped at the change in the story, he is not about to improvise right now. Is he?

"I went to order drinks for the guys when the sexy woman at the bar pulls me to the dance floor. Without uttering a word or even looking up she started dancing not bothering to bring up her name or ask for mine."

"Khloe?" Stacy gaped darting her large eyes to me

Wes's large tan fingers lifted my chin up forcing me to meet his gaze. The corners of his mouth twitched as he fought to keep the smirk off his face.

"My kitty is a wild little thing." he winked

Pressing my hand to his chest I sunk my nails into his soft blue dress shirt feeling his muscles tense beneath my palm.

"That's enough about us." I laughed nervously

"But I'm getting to the best part." Wes argued ignoring me as I dug my nails further into his chest

"Oh do tell us more." my mother clapped excitedly

"Don't you dare." I hissed under my breath

Dropping his hand to my collarbone he dragged his fingers lightly across the exposed area. Suppressing the tingly shiver that ran down my spine I cursed my traitorous body for the goosebumps that erupted over my skin.

"After two dances the sexy woman just walked away without so much as a backwards glance leaving me hungry for more. So I followed her to an empty room in the back where my seductive kitten sat waiting for me."

"Really Khloe." my mom said in a disapproving tone her perfectly plucked brow arched upwards

Wes nodded his head enjoying his version of the story more than the one I created "Yes, and when I approached her she said the dirtiest-"

"I asked him out." I finished before Wes could say anything else embarrassing

Wes opened his mouth when I pinched his chest, he winced and snapped his mouth shut.

"What an interesting story." my mom said not sounding pleased by Wes's version

"That's nothing, our first date was-"

"Romantic." I interrupted again "We ate at the top of our building as the sunset and afterwards we talked while enjoying the beautiful lights of the city below."

Both older women awed at the creative first date, although the scowl on my mother's face had smoothed out she wasn't exactly impressed but still it was better than the raised brow.

"I wish Tom did romantic stuff like that." Claudia pouted at her husband

"Your making the rest of us men look bad." the silvered head Tom joked

"What can I say, I know what my woman wants." Wes replied lowering his head to kiss my right cheek

The elder women awed again as I gritted my teeth and accepted the sweet gesture. Forcing a smile to my face I wanted to throttle the bastard for his stunt a few seconds ago but managed to stay calm.

"Wes is a big romantic under this tough guy shell." I said purposely jabbing my finger into his chest

"Only for you." he replied resting his large hand over my breast with a smile similar to a child in a candy store

The slick asshole!

"Would you excuse us for a moment?" I said as I grabbed his elbow

"Don't be long dear." my mother called as I tried as gently as I could to drag him after me

Simply nodding in response to my mom I made my way through the crowds towards the less popular area, ducking out towards the hallway and away from prying eyes. Whipping around I sent him the darkest glare which didn't seem to have an affect on him.

"What was that back there?" I growled angrily

"What was what?" he asked stupidly

"The story, you changed it. Why?" I clarified

"Your story was boring so I spiced it up a little." he shrugged like it was no big deal

"You made it sound dirty."

"I didn't even get to the best part." he chuckled

Clenching my fists at my side I fought the urge to kick him in the family jewels only because we had to return to the group together. Releasing my clenched fists I inhaled deeply reminding myself we were in a public place, with more reporters here than guests.

Meeting his gaze I could see the amusement shimmering in them.

"Let's just get back in there and no more telling dirty stories."

"No dirty stories." he agreed

That seemed a little too easy. Looking him up and down I didn't really gave a choice but to take his word for it. Sighing in defeat I grabbed his hand slipping my fingers with his to keep the act up.

"Do not embarrass me again." I warned as we entered the large ballroom

Weaving through the causally dressed couples and bright flashes of cameras we were only a few feet from where my mother stood laughing. Stacy stood a few feet away blabbing on to a woman in a pantsuit who I assumed was a reporter.

"Don't worry I will and Khloe..."

A gasp tore from my lips both shocked and startled by the sudden hot air blowing down my neck. His lips brushed my ear causing my womb to clench excitedly as my heart thudded in my chest so loudly Wes could probably hear it.

"You look gorgeous kitty." he purred in my ear

Stepping back he started forward pulling me with him, shaking my head I felt my cheeks flare red at the deep, velvety tone of his voice. Not to mention the feel of his soft lips against my ear. Picking up my pace I was soon striding along side Wes who sent me lopsided smirk. My brows crossed in confusion when I felt a hand slap my butt.

Yelping softly I sent him a glare "Behave." I warned

"I'm just getting started sweetheart." he said with a wink
