Part 26 [Final Part]
Jongmin POV
Suddenly the warm light faded and I found myself back in the archive vault.
That's it? What happened?
Just as I was about to run back to where I found the book, the vault door opened and Siwan said "Dinner is ready!"
"Uncle!" I shouted as I ran over to him. "What happened to them?"
Shocked by my sudden question, he asked "Who?"
"Sohee and Hoya" I spoke eagerly. "What happened to them?"
"Sohee and Hoya?" he was surprised to hear their names.
"Yeah! What happened to them?" I continued to ask as I handed him the book I was reading.
He smiled and laughed "I was wondering where this book disappeared to."
"Uncle!" I whined.
"Come have a seat and I'll tell you" he sighed. We sat down at the table and I waited until he finally said "After they visited the archives and discovered that Sohee had become human, they returned to Fox Mountain in Busan."
"Why did they go back to Busan?"
"She had promised the younger gumiho that she would return after she had finished her research. Plus, she had other things that needed to be taken care of." He took a deep breath before continuing "First, they stopped at the temple to inform the monks that the edict was successfully delivered. They were shocked and didn't know how to handle the news. They had relied on the edict game for years to draw in visitors, so they were worried."
"Oh yeah! The game! What did they do with the game?"
"She told them that the game could continue, but with a fake edict. After all, the real one is here in the archives."
"Really? Can I see it?"
He went off into the darkness and came back with a scroll. "Here you go" he said as he handed it to me.
I opened it up and was in awe "This is so cool." After reading the scroll, I asked "What happened next?"
"Next, they went up the mountain to the gumiho village. She had promised the young gumiho that she would return, so she felt obligated to do so. Plus, she needed to explain to them what was going to happen."
"What did happen?"
"She told them that she was no longer a gumiho, which kind of shocked them all. Especially the young gumiho named Joochan."
"He was in love with her, wasn't he?"
"Yeah" he chuckled. "The poor guy didn't have a chance!"
"Hey! Who are you calling a poor guy?" a young man suddenly appeared in the doorway.
"Joochan! Perfect timing!" my uncle called out to him.
"Perfect timing for what?" he asked warily.
"Tell Jongmin what happened with Sohee and Hoya" Siwan smiled.
He looked at me in shock and then started laughing "So, you finally found their journal! Okay!" he happily said as he came over a took a seat. "Where did you leave off?"
"She returned to the village..."
"Right" he caught up. "She told us that the monks were going to continue to have the edict game every year and that we could decide if we wanted them to find the tomb or not. We decided against it. We liked our privacy and I'm sure he wouldn't have wanted tons of visitors either."
"So they still don't know where his tomb is?"
"I don't know" he rubbed the back of his head. "The few remaining gumiho and I left the village a few years ago to come and live here. We haven't heard whether or not the tomb has been found yet."
"Oh" I nodded. "What about Sohee and Hoya?"
"Sohee left the village to Jihyo, Jaehyun and me, because we were the oldest. After that, they left the village."
"Where did they go?"
"They went to visit his parents first" he chuckled. "I guess that is what humans do when they are serious about getting married. Then they returned to Seoul. Turns out, he was some big celebrity. There was a big commotion when he announced their relationship."
"Really?"
"Yeah! I'm sure you could find articles about it on the internet."
I pulled out my phone and did a quick search. "Wow! There are so many articles!"
"He was extremely popular" Joochan laughed.
I opened one of the articles and there was a picture of them smiling together. "They look so happy!"
He smiled and then continued "Anyways, they eventually got married and had kids. They even came to visit us in the village every once in a while. They lived a long and happy life together." Suddenly, his mood turned somber "In the end, they passed away surrounded by their family."
"They died?" I was surprised.
"That was a long time ago" Joochan smiled sadly. Suddenly, he jolted and smiled "Thinking about it, today is the anniversary of their passing."
"Is it?" Siwan asked.
"Yeah" Joochan chuckled. "I can't believe I almost forgot! I better go and set up the memorial before Jihyo yells at me."
"And we should go and eat" Siwan said as he looked at me.
"Right!" I smiled.
We all got up and walked towards the door. Before leaving, I turned around and looked at the book lying on the table. As I stood there, two figures appeared from the darkness and smiled at me.
"I promise that the legend of the two tailed gumiho will not be forgotten" I smiled, then I turned and left the vault.
