Part 29

Hyun-shik POV

"But how are you able to remember your past life?" she asked.

I placed a hand over my chest and thought about the warm light I saw and felt before. My chest began to glow and she looked at me in surprise. "I'm not sure what it is......."

"My fox bead!" she interrupted me.

        "What?"

"That glow is coming from my fox bead. I just don't understand" she paused and looked up at me "How did you get it?"

"I don't know" I replied honestly. "The truth is, I've always felt like there was something inside of me that was different from everyone else. While other kids fell and got scratches and bruises, I didn't. I've never even been really sick either."

"I don't understand! I've never given my fox bead to anyone!"

"Actually, I think you may have given it to Myung-dae" Sunjin's mother appeared out of no where.

"What do you mean mother? Why would Myung-dae have my fox bead?"

"Do you remember when your father was attacked?"

"You know I don't remember what happened that day!"

"I never told you this, but...." she paused as she debated whether or not to tell us what she knew.

        "Mom! What happened?"

"Your father was fighting the other foxes to protect both the humans and you. That much I could tell from the scene of the incident. When I arrived, both your father and Myung-dae's mother were already dead and it seemed as though Myung-dae's father had also just arrived."

"How does this explain my fox bead?"

"You and Myung-dae both had passed out in each other's arms. While I was examining the two of you for injuries, I noticed that he had claw marks on the back of his clothes, but he had no injuries. I also sensed fox magic around him. I think you may have given your bead to him then so that you could heal him."

Sunjin POV

"But...." My head began to hurt and images began flood my mind. I grasped my head and screamed.

"Sunjin" Hyun-shik grabbed my shoulders. "Are you okay? What's wrong?"

I looked at him and the pain subsided. The memories I had suppressed returned and I remembered everything that happened that day. "I was married to Myung-dae" I said in disbelief.

"What?" Hyun-shik was surprised by my comment. "But there was nothing about the two of you getting married in his journal." He looked over at the desk. "Wait a minute!" He stood up, ran to the desk and began flipping through the journal. "Right here!" He brought it over to me and showed me a passage.

'When I woke up, there was a little girl in front of me and she said that we were married. Then she placed her head in my lap. I don't know why, but I began to stroke the girl's head. It just felt natural.'

"You must have been that little girl!" he smiled.

I smiled back at him "Yes I was. I gave him my bead because his mother had begged me to save him. Honestly, I wasn't sure if it would work, but it did. Then I healed his wounds. After our parents died, we both cried until we exhausted ourselves. I think my mind blocked the memories from me because it was too painful to remember. I can't believe that I forgot about giving him my bead!"

"Well, now you know" Hyun-shik wrapped his arms around my waist and held me lovingly.

My mother, who had been watching our every move, carefully spoke "I don't think it is a good idea for the two of you to get so close."

        "Why mom?" I screamed.

"Sunjin! Have you forgotten what we all have been through?"

"I would never harm any of you" Hyun-shik spoke sincerely.

"I don't believe that you would intentionally harm us, but......."

        "MOM!"

"No, Sunjin! I will not approve of this!"

        "I love him, MOM!"

Hyun-shik POV

I couldn't believe that she was fighting her mother like this. Then she screamed "I love him, MOM!" and I was even more surprised.

        "Sunjin!"

"No, Mother!" she screamed as she stood up. "I'm not a little fox anymore! I don't need to be protected! He is my mate! I'm not going to let anyone take him from me!"

Suddenly, she fainted again. Her mother rushed to her side and tried to check her pulse. I could see that her mother was really worried. "What is wrong?"

She looked up at me "I....I don't know" she worriedly stuttered. "Her pulse is......is.......different."

I lifted her up. "We have to get her to a hospital."

"We can't!" her mother screamed "They'll find out.......about......"

"I'll protect her" I replied full of confidence and the fox bead inside me reacted. It was telling me that this was the right thing to do.

I carried her out of the vault and rushed to the car. I gently laid her in the back seat with her mother and then drove to the closest hospital. I carried her inside and the doctor rushed to her bedside.

        "What happened?" the doctor asked.

"We were talking when she suddenly collapsed and passed out" I replied.

"Okay" he said as he started to examine her. "Please wait outside."

The nurses ushered us out of the room and her mother and I waited nervously for the results. About a half hour later, the nusre said that we could come back in. "It appears that she passed out from exhaution and hypoglycemia. When was the last time she ate?"

I thought for a moment "We had breakfast this morning."

"Has she had anything since then?" the doctor questioned.

"No, I don't think so. She did go and get us a snack, but we got caught up in talking that we didn't get a chance to eat it."

The doctor smiled "I see. Well, she should be fine. She can be discharged as soon as she wakes up and the IV finishes."

"That's all?" her mother nervously asked. "There wasn't anything strange about her tests?"

The doctor looked over her notes and said "No, all her other tests came back normal." Then he smiled and said "Your daughter is very healthy, she just needs to remember to eat more regularly."
