Part 23
Sunjin/Mi-rae POV
After supper, the rest of the foxes returned to the comfort of their own rooms.
"Your family isn't very sociable, are they?" Heeyoung commented.
"They are very shy around new people" I replied.
"The children don't seem to have a problem with it" Minwoo chuckled as he pointed to the pile of children sleeping around Hyun-shik.
I smiled looking at them all sleeping peacefully. Then I turned to Heeyoung and Minwoo and said "I guess I should show you where you will be sleeping."
"Don't forget what I asked earlier" Heeyoung giggled.
"Yeah, well... I can't do that."
"Why?" she pouted.
"Because I don't think my sister-in-law would like that very much."
"He's married? Why didn't you tell me that before?"
"You never gave me the chance to!"
We both laughed. "Well, I still want one of the best rooms!"
"No problem!"
I decided that I would bring them over to house that I had taken up residency in because it would be easier to get to the archives from there. "Wow!" Heeyoung squealed with excitement as we walked through the gates. "This is amazing! I love it! I can't believe you grew up here!"
Minwoo pouted "So where will I be sleeping? The barn?"
I chuckled "No, not the barn. The servant's quarters are not as bad as you may think." I lead them over to his room and showed it to him. "This is where you will be staying."
"Hey, this isn't so bad!" he smiled.
"Ya! I thought you were going to give him one of the slave rooms!"
"This is!" I chuckled. "This is the room slaves used to sleep in."
"I don't believe you!"
"Heeyoung" I giggled. "The reason it doesn't look so bad is because he is the only one using it. In the past, this room would usually be shared by three to five people."
"Can't you stick him in a room with other people then?"
I shook my head. "This is my residence and I'm the only one who lives here. Now, come on!" I linked arms with her "I'll show you the room you'll be sleeping in." I dragged her to one the other buildings and said "This will be your room!"
"Really? I get to stay here?" I could tell she was very excited.
"Yes" I smiled.
She ran over to me and gave me a big hug. "I love this room!"
I smiled as I made my way back to the main house. I was about to go inside when I heard my brother ask "Where do you want me to put this one?"
I looked over, saw him carrying Hyun-shik and sighed. If I didn't sleep in the same room as him, Heeyoung would throw a fit. "Just put him in my room" I replied.
"What? Are you crazy?"
"Just do it!"
My brother brought him inside and laid him on the bedding. "What do you think you are doing? What if he finds out about... you know?"
"Shhh! Do you want to wake him?"
Hyun-shik POV
After eating, I kind of passed out. Those children really wore me out eariler. I felt someone lift me up and carry me somewhere, but I was too tired to open my eyes to find out what was happening.
"Where do you want me to put this one?" the person carrying me asked.
I heard Mi-rae reply "Just put him in my room."
"What? Are you crazy?"
"Just do it!"
Guess she is really going to sleep in the same room as me. The person gently laid me down and then continued his conversation with Mi-rae.
"What do you think you are doing? What if he finds out about... you know?"
"Shhh! Do you want to wake him?"
"Sunjin! This isn't something to ignore! He could find out about us!"
What are they talking about? Who is Sunjin?
"I know what I'm doing, Siwan. Trust me. Have I ever done anything to make you worry before?"
"Yeah! The time you got caught in the trap and Myung-dae rescued you!"
"Why do you always have to bring up the past like that?"
"Why don't you ever change? You trust humans too much! You should just get married to a fox and be done with it! I mean, how long has it been?"
"I think it has been about a thousand years now."
"Exactly! Don't you think it is time for you to move on? Myung-dae is dead! He is not coming back!"
"I know that! Don't you think I know that? I know he is gone, but... but I just can't bring myself to forget about him. He...he...he was my mate" she began to cry.
"I'm sorry Sunjin, I didn't mean to..."
"Just go!" she cried out.
"I just want you to be happy, Sunjin."
"I know that Siwan, but you know that when a fox chooses it's mate...."
"They are bound together for life. I know. I shouldn't have..."
I heard her sigh "I've already given up hope of meeting him again."
"Sunjin!"
"It's fine! Really! All I want now, it to be able to protect the remaining foxes."
"What about your happiness?"
"What are you talking about? I'm already happy! I'm happy that we are all still alive, that you found your mate and have ten annoying little cubs that never leave me alone, and that I can spend everyday with all the foxes here. What more could I ask for?"
"Then why are you crying?"
