1000 Years Later

Sunjin POV

        "Bye Mom! I'm off to school!"

        "Don't forget to be careful!"

        "Don't worry Mom! I will!" I smiled and then ran from our home

        I guess you're wondering what happened?

        As you probably know, Ye-ryung and Donghae were sentenced to death. I can't say I wasn't happy about that. They deserved that for what they did to Myung-dae. As for their son Min-joo, he was banished, but his escort was attacked by foxes en route to his designated place of exile. No, it wasn't me or my family. We would never harm a human. Especially a child.

        The regional magistrate was left in charge of Myung-dae's will. It turns out that Myung-dae left the house and clinic to me. Unfortunately I was prohibited from practicing medicine, so the clinic was closed.

        Years passed and people from town would move away or die and their family would sell off their land. When it became available, I took the opportunity to buy the land between the home Dr. Cho helped us to buy and Myung-dae's home that he left to me. Needless to say, it is quite a bit of land.

        My family and I managed to stay safe despite the conflicts that have happened over the years. Although my brother has started to complain that we should have remained isolated.

        Why? O_O

        Because he has to serve in the military (^_~)  He is constantly complaining about it.

        What have I been doing?

        Well after I bought the land, we sent out word to all the foxes that they would be safe if they came and lived with us. Many of the other foxes came and we were glad that we would finally be able to live in peace. Unfortunately, that didn't last.

        Why???

        We told them that we would not condone the killing of humans on our property. Those who didn't like that often left to go kill somewhere else. We could always smell the blood on them. Eventually, they all were caught and killed. Now only a few foxes remain. Mostly my family, but there are still a few others who have come to live like us. We all still live together on the land I purchased years ago.

        Life has treated us well and the other foxes have adapted to life among the humans. Well I say they have adapted, but in truth they have isolated themselves in our home. Only my brother and I venture out among the humans..... and I think that my brother is seriously considering isolating himself too. He really doesn't like serving in the army.

        You don't understand why he has to serve in the army all the time O_O

        Well, as you know, we don't age like normal humans. So, we have to fake our deaths and create new identities every once in a while. That is if we want to keep going out among the humans. Even if we don't venture out we still have ways of supporting ourselves, but we still need new identities because it would be hard for people to believe that we are mythical creatures.

        How would we support ourselves??

        We've taken a good portion of the land that I've acquired over the years and built an archives.

        Why??

        Because we appreciate the past. We have become timeless creatures. Granted although we are immortalized in stories as demons, we still have a fondness for the past we have lived through and the history we have witnessed. Could you think of a better person to protect the past, than those who have witnessed it?

        Where am I going now?

        Well, I'm currently a University Student.

        What am I studying?

        A little bit of everything. Over the years, I've studied law and economics. I've even studied medicine too.

        What? You thought I was prohibited from practicing medicine?

        Well that was true a thousand years ago, when I was living as Sunjin. In the world today, I'm known as Gu Mi-rae.
