Prologue
Every world has their evils, as well as their heroes, one or many who stand to protect the innocent and all that is good, while battling and vanquishing the vile and sinister. This realm, Kandrar, is no exception. Upon seeing the golden statues in the heart of the Aicezian Empire, everyone in all four kingdoms can recall the legend and tales of their protectors, from young child, to old man. It is the one legend that the kingdoms of Kandrar can all agree with each other on without complaint. Or almost none. What is this tale, you say?
This is the legend of the Guardians. Not heroes, for those come and go, but watchers and protectors of the realm, each gifted with a primary element, together creating a force of nature to be reckoned with.
It all started many years ago. A cult had mysteriously started a hunt for an ancient artifact, the amulet of Queen Tatiana, that had supposedly resurfaced after being thought to be lost. Their intentions? To free a great darkness trapped within the amulet for centuries, one that could plunge the world into chaos once more. The current guardian of Kandrar, the dragon Arcadia, had grown older, and could not protect the world from the many fiends alone anymore. That's when she created a prophecy in order to find younger blood, and granted them each powers over an element. After years of searching for the amulet, fighting the cult, as well as enduring many hardships, these guardians managed to prevent the rise of evil and defeat the cult once and for all. After the epic battle, no, War, during which their mastery of the elements had played a key role, they became known as the saviours of Kandrar and dubbed as their new guardians. Many tales were written of their epic feats. They eventually disappeared years after the war, but many do believe they will return if the need arises again.
Bewildered yet? This may seem like an epic tale you can hear from any bard out on the streets, the type that motivates many to go on quests and become heroes. But you are here to see me for another reason, aren't you? Come closer and let me tell you a secret. No big hero is born as such, and no one, especially not these almighty guardians, start off powerful, honourable, and so well respected. What is that? You think I would get thrown into a dungeon for saying these things about our saviours out loud? Let me assure you by Arcadia, this is the truth. In fact, let me tell you some much less known tales about these guardians, way back in the beginning, before all these epic battles. Let me show you that on the days they were not fighting the cult, they weren't all that glorious when they first started either.
