The Demon's Effect

I had another nightmare.

It all started in a weird way. I was a small kid, although my hair is very long and nearly dragging on the ground behind me as I walked. The breeze stirred up some autumn leaves, and I was wearing a small robe with some sort of grey leggings. I'm barefooted, but never cold.

I heard a voice. "When you walk the trail, you choose the path ahead, but not where it takes you." I turned my head, and to my surprise (not in my dream), I saw Hamaki. They looked just the same, but their skin seemed darker, and their eyes are also brighter in a way. Happier. As if they are enjoying life.

I smile, "You are always with the riddles. What does it mean?" I say, but in a different language....but somehow, I understood it, and them.

"You will find it out. Also as the stars being made is rather simple."

"White paint?"

"Exactly."

I wondered what they meant, before the whole scenery changed. I was being carried and currently running away from something was also Hamaki. Something roared loudly, but it wasn't a creature. As I looked behind her, my panic raised.

A massive flood of water is heading towards us, and fast.

I look forwards and see the light end of the tunnel, but it is above us. Hamaki, despite the slippery rocks and crevices, placed me on their back and I held on. "Hamaki!!" I screamed, the guardian climbing fast but not fast enough. Suddenly, they lost grip and slipped, causing me to fall off with them. Water slammed on my side, and I started sinking quickly. I can't swim, the currents are suffocating. I was being pushed-no, pulled deeper and deeper into the water, barely able to swim, and not even be able to see.

Just when I thought I'd drown, I woke up.

I was near startled, and half relieved when I saw the large bunny like friend. Fi-shue had his hand over my head, gently petting my hair as if I were sick and they were giving me affection. He gave me a smile, his silver irises amazing as always, "Ah, you're awake. I hope you are okay, healing you was no easy task."

I frowned. Healing? Just when I remembered, I sat up, "Kilinco, you have to help Kilinco! He is hurt! He needs he-" Fi-shue shushed me, calm but firm. "Kilinco is okay. I healed you, and so therefore, he is okay. He just needs to rest."

I look around the room. I was on a bed that isn't my own, but it is large and comfy; very cushiony. The blankets are a light pink with blue or red flower like patterns. The frame of the bed is some sort of wood. The walls around me is painted in a calming cream color, and the large window on the right side of me is currently blinded, but I can see that the sky is grey with clouds. Around the room is an antique lamp, a shelf with fancy plates and cups, and the door frame had some sort of design carved into it. I step out of bed into a hardwood floor, and look at Fi-shue, "This isn't my house. Where are we?"

A knock on the door, I widened my eyes, thinking a stranger might see Fi-shue. "Fi-shue, hide!" I say quietly and hope he can turn to a necklace or gem quickly. But he calmly looked at the door as someone came in.

He was old, his hair is a bright white. His skin is a light color and had freckles along his arms. His face is wrinkled and his eyes are a bright green-grey. He is wearing a plaid green and red vest, with a white longsleeved shirt and some cargo pants with high socks on his dress shoes. He seems like a regular old man, but he isn't freaking out about the fact that I am in his house, or that there is a giant greenish bunny in the room. He simply says, "Thank goodness, we thought you would never wake up." He said, smiling. He looks kind.

Fi-shue moves to him and gave a small headbutt, it was affectionate, and sat down. "She was tired then, using her energy to try and help Kilinco." Fi-shue says and the old man rolled his eyes and chuckled, "Bah! Let the girl learn, it helps the bond grow stronger together." The old man replied, and pat Fi-shue's head as if he was a dog, but apparently Fi-shue didn't seem to mind as his tail wagged and hit the ground a few times.

I stood confused, "Hi, er, excuse me, but who...where am I? And who are you? Not trying to be rude, or anything..." I say, hesitant since I don't actually want to seem intruding. He looked at me, a smile still on his face, "Oh, silly me. My name is Franklin, but if you want, you can call me Frank. You are in my house, Jacklynn." He was calm, and I felt like I can trust him.

But he gave off a feeling, it is sort of odd, that I have to be calm around him. I couldn't do anything drastic or something might happen. Stupidly, I ask, "What is this feeling?" And he frowned, as if he didn't expect me to ask, but he stated, "That is my Guardian's field of magic. Anything drastic happening, or upsetting, it will cause them to form."

Form? Like Kilinco? I was confused as to what he is talking about, but he waved his hand dismissively. "Are you hungry, we have some food in the kitchen. My wife made some ravioli if you like that." And as if my stomach had finally awoken, it growled hungrily. Of course, I blush.

He smiles, "Must sound good to you. Follow me." He says kindly and turns to the door to leave. Fi-shue let me go ahead of him. I think hard, what Guardian is he talking about? Is he like my parents? Is he like me? All these thoughts hurt my head more than I had when E hurt Kilinco...or before I fell asleep. As Fi-shue walked behind me, I asked quietly, "Who is Frank exactly? Is he like mom and dad?" Fi-shue looked at me, "What do you mean?"

"Well, with guardians and all."

"Yes, if you are talking about bonders."

"Bonders?"

"Humans that bond with us Guardians. They kept them alive, and them us. We are called Bonds, humans are the Bonders, but to keep it simple; humans are Companions and us 'monsters' are Guardians." He used the quotes for monsters. I am curious, but my stomach growled again and I shut up to internally schold my belly that we are getting food later.

We walked down a hall, which had pictures of two or more people. The old man, Frank, and his wife, I suppose. The kitchen was at the end, which smelled of tomato sauce and other goods that I think I drooled a bit. Fi-shue went ahead of me to go to the fruit bowl on the table and gets a banana. Maybe he is a vegetarian if he isn't even interested in the smell of ravioli.

An elderly woman is standing at the stove. She was stirring a pot of tomato sauce and other goods. She is wearing a loose yellow T-shirt with dark jeans, also an apron while cooking. Her hair is grey and white, and her skin is also light and her eyes are a sea green. She hummed some song I haven't heard about, but it gave me a calm feeling.

Frank cleared his throat, "Evie? Jacklynn's awake." He says, and the woman turns at me. She smiled and waved politely, "Oh hello dear, look at you! You've gotten stronger, and I bet you are hungry. Your family is in the living room, but here," She moved along the cabinets to get out a bowl. She placed the two ravioli noodles in and poured sauce on it, then handed it to me.

It smells so good, and I realize she had also placed a spoon on it. Before I could thank her, Evie continued, "You can eat in the living room, but please do not drop or spill anything on the floor. My Guardian enjoys eating scraps, and I don't think I would like them to eat it off the floor."

I nod in understanding, "Thanks!" I said, before turning to the open doorway which leads to the living room.

The living room is spacious in the center. To my right, there is a couch and a coffee table against the wall, and a lamp in the corner. Mom, dad, and Sophie and Henry are sitting on the couch, eating and looking grim. To my left is a TV set, but it is off currently. In the center is Cathy, who is playing dolls with Katie. Katie didn't seem as grim as my parents, but I can tell she is doing it for Cathy.

"Hello?" I ask, and everyone stopped to stare at me. Then my mom put down her bowl and rushed up to hug me, "Jackie, I thought you were going..." She sniffed and pulled away, holding my head in her hands as I look in her eyes, "So strong. You are so strong, I can't believe you would do such a reckless thing!" She says, then pulled me into another hug, which I was not able to return because I am holding the ravioli bowl. I think I spilled some of it.

She let go and began lecturing me about how I shouldn't do such a reckless thing, especially when my Guardian is hurt. I listened, and for once I notice that the light in her eyes seemed to shimmer as she goes on, as if she is so happy but at the same time worried so much that her

Kilinco looked up at me, smiled, and said, "I appreciate what you did then, taking some of my pain away. Even though you didn't realize it at the time." He says, he seems a lot happier. I notice something, where he had the deep gash on his neck, is now a scar, but barely noticeable. I sit down by him and nod slowly, "I thought you were gone..."

He places his head on mine, and I felt an even flow of emotions pass between us. Sadness, surprise, anger is mine, but calmness, gratitude, and peace from his. It evened out my emotions, and I was shocked to find out that every pain he felt was the same pain I felt.

He moved his head onto the floor and I stared down at my ravioli. I realized I had two of the noodles. I ate one and put down my bowl, and scooted it to Kilinco. "Hey, want some? It's good!" I said. I think my mom was about to say no, but Kilinco smiled and started eating anyway, as if it was a very delicious food he wouldn't have in a while.

He finished and licked the plate clean, and I chuckle at seeing him do that, for some reason, he looked funny acting like that. I put my hand on his head, and I felt happiness radiate through him.

Someone cleared their throat, and we all turned around to see Frank and Evie standing at the doorway, and that is when I noticed something about Evie. On the back of her hand, there is also a burn mark, but then it has some sort of shield behind it, and the shield goes up the arm to a 'Bond Image' of a tattoo. How I came up with Bond Image, I have no idea.

"So is everything cleared up between all of you?" Frank asked politely. My dad shook his head, "No, not quite. Jacklynn just got here, and we were waiting until you two came in here so you can also help explain." He says, and Frank and Evie nods.

"Explain what?" I ask, confused.

"We need to explain the concept about Guardians, before we go on a trip to Musiphan."
