How This Started...
Jacklynn tightened her rope and vest, to make sure that she doesn't fall during her ride. From the bottom of the ride, she could see her friends from summer camp cheering her on. Jacklynn can make out the yelling into a chant, saying, "Jackie! Jackie! Jackie!"
Jacklynn smiled when a breeze came over her, This is awesome! She thought.
After a man yelled at her to tell her what the rules are, Jacklynn jumped in excitement and was eager to just go down the ride. To feel the wind in her hair, to speed through the forest faster than anyone could run.
Jacklynn saw the man climb up the tree, his dirty blonde hair ruffled from being outside a lot on his bike. "You ready?" He asked me, his voice is ruff, but gentle.
"Nope!" Jacklynn replied playfully, and laughed at her silliness, "But I'm not going to chicken out." She added quickly.
"Alright, you know the rules?" He asked again, moving some of his hair out of his ember eyes. Jacklynn nodded and smiled, I'm ready.
"Three!" He said and the people at the bottom yelled, "Two!" Jacklynn shuddered, What if I fall?, "One!" Jacklynn felt the man's hand on her back, and before she heard the rest, Jacklynn seemed to lose her hearing, and slowed down time.
The wind immediately went to work to push her back onto the platform, and it, at first, wasn't relaxing, since it felt as if her stomach touched her heart. But later, after a few seconds of falling down straight to the ground, the line snapped straight, and made Jacklynn zoom through the forest. The wind touched her short hair and pulled it gently back in a fast manner. And soon, Jacklynn gained her hearing again.
"Whoo!" Jacklynn yelled while zip lining through the trees, this was officially going to be one of Jacklynn's best summer memories. It felt as if she is gliding through the trees with nothing against her. The wind and trees seemed as if it was slowed down through time.
Jacklynn laughed and enjoyed herself in the gale, the flavor of summer on her tongue while running through the tree tops.
"Uh oh." Jacklynn said, she was heading through a bundle of trees that she realized that it were the ones that she has to dodge. There were at least six or seven that she had to avoid, otherwise, she'll get a mouth full of oaks and maple leaves, "Alright, let's do this." Jacklynn said.
She pushed her foot against the nearest branch and jumped, gravity letting her fly higher in the air and her stomach rising to her heart again. She did this for most of the trees, and the others, she just leaned either to the left or right.
Jacklynn enjoyed the ride while it lasted, and soon the zip line started slowing down; it was the part where you could take out a camera and enjoy the scenery around you. Jacklynn took a quick picture of the lake on her right, where the trees reflected off of the blue surface.
Jacklynn quickly checked the picture to make sure that it was alright, then placed the camera out of her pocket.
The ride started speeding up again, and soon enough, there was another group of trees that Jacklynn needed to avoid. But before she could take evasive action, she saw something glitter in one of the trees.
Curious, she stopped the ride by grabbing one of the nearby trees. It caused redness on her hands, but she ignored the pain for now. The shine seemed so out of place, it could be a shining piece of glass, but it doesn't seem like that. Jacklynn considered her options, but curiosity overwhelmed her. So against her brain's argument, Jacklynn unhooked the zip line hook from her vest, and started climbing the tree.
After a minute of climbing the trees, she heard her friends that were looking for her, calling her name and saying if she got hurt, they'll kill her. They were extremely worried.
Jacklynn ignored them for now, and gained a look at the shining object. She carefully picked it off of a branch, and regret her decision. She lost her grip on the oak, and started sliding down the tree painfully.
Jacklynn soon let go, and landed on her back, knocking the wind out of her lungs. "Ow..." Jacklynn groaned. She sat up, and checked herself for injuries, Doesn't seem like it. Her mind declared. Then she looked at the thing that was in the trees. It seemed like a necklace, it had a green jewel like thing in the center, and it was outlined by a silver frame. The string that goes around the neck is a dark grey.
There were markings on the necklace too, it looked like three claw marks, with a 'C' like shape underneath it, if you tip the 'C' to the left to make it look like a wide 'U', and it had a spike on the bottom.
"Huh?" She didn't know what it is, or how it got into a tree in the first place, but for some reason...it seemed magical.
"Jacklynn!" Someone yelled. She looked up and saw one of her friends. She was African, she has blonde hair, and two bright blue and green eyes. We nickname her Tina for her small appearance, but she loves it anyway. "You had me worried! I was thinking that the line snapped on you!"
Jacklynn sighed, "I know Tina, but look what I found!" Jacklynn showed her friend, Tina, the necklace. "Ooh, girl, you better find the owner and give it back. I've never seen a necklace like this one, but it looks custom made!" Tina said southerly. When Tina gets mad, she'll talk southern, so when she says 'better', it sounds like she said 'bet-ah' and when she says 'never', it sounds like 'nevuh'.
"Well, if the owner actually wants it back, why would it have been in a tree this whole time?" Jacklynn questioned her smart friend. Really, Tina is smart; she can solve a formula for math faster than a calculator. She's been studying since kindergarten and she is planning getting a degree on mechanical engineering.
"Well, let's ask the man who runs the zip-line, maybe he's seen a person with this necklace, and knows where they are." Tina suggested. Jacklynn nodded, and tried to stand up, but then fell down on her back, "Ouch! Uh, Tina, a little help?" Jacklynn asked. Tina smiled and helped Jacklynn up, "Be a woman, won't you Jack." Tina teased. As soon as Jacklynn was able to stand, they walked off to the other group, and hugged each other playfully...
Little did they know that someone that they don't know are listening to it as well...
Cliffhanger! Not really! I know, I'm horrible at it. (By the way, the marking looks like the Fauna sign shown in the image above)
Anyway, the first chapter is out, so thank gosh! It took forever for me anyway. I hoped you have enjoyed it. I had to switch through computer and tablet to edit this. So this is why it took so long anyway. But I hope that you would like to continue.
Live your dreams, ward off nightmares, peace!
