Chapter 23-And They Lived Happily Ever After
Asch spent no time in taking Ava into his arms, and the others followed through like the wind. Everyone was overly excited to see Ava once again.
"Something else is coming through the portal!" Zex said and stood between us and the portal. One look from Ava and I could tell she was overly shocked I got Zex on our side. One glance towards Maria and I could tell she was falling for Zex. Wait till she finds out he's actually a cat. HA!
"Tris, you don't think it's-" Ava began as a short black and white cat came walking through the portal.
"Of course it' the cat!" I shout with my hands in the air, "Johnny isn't a threat Zex. Put your weapon down." Slowly and surely he did. Dad coughed out, shivering in the cold, and drew my attention away from the portal. I placed my hand on his back and looked up at the others. The portal shaking still as something else began to walk through it.
"Hold your ground!" Zex called as his sword was back out, Lief, Noi, Rhys, Asch, and yes, Pierce, all stood a guard.
"They're... protecting us?" Dad asked.
"I told you they weren't evil!" Ava said, "They're our friends!"
"Not friends," I said and looked from the Damos to my old family. I could sense Pierce's body stiffening as I said this. "Family." There was a pleasant relaxing vibe to the air now that I said that. The portal shifting as the impossible happened.
"Wait, is that...?" Ava questioned as she stepped forward. Her voice caught in a gasp, "Guys stop! It's Jake!" All their weapons froze as I broke into a wide smile with a hard laugh. Ava was right, just before the portal closed, out came the tall blonde with emerald eyes. Jake. Cupcake Jake.
"He's on our side to... now c'mon-I've got a plan!" I said and motioned over to the large thrown, "There will be time to catch up soon, what we need now is to stop Alateca."
"Alateca," Tommy said and leaned over the side of the mountain, watching the world turn black with ash, "Like that old fighter in the club?" I looked up and stared at him perplexed. "This was before you came along. Before Wilder was around, before Owen and the Crusiers, before everything." He took a soft turn and kept walking towards the large group. "There were two people. One who owned the club before Owen, you know him already. Then the other one... she never showed her face, never said her name, never said anything to anyone for that matter. But everywhere she went, she cut the world Alateca into the walls or the ground. We assumed that was her name."
"I remember her..." Ana Maria said quietly, "She was smart, fast, silent as the night... I made up a bedtime story for the girls based on the stories that Tommy told me about."
"I remember that," Alicia stated firmly, "It was about the evil Princess Alateca. She was beautiful, until the people she loved went against her."
"I remember that one now!" Alani cheered, "In a faraway life she was broken, the people she tried to protect hurt her-they hurt everyone she cared about to! But she stayed with the world because she loved it and the people in it too much!" I thought for a moment on the story, and something in my mind snapped.
"We killed the wrong Damos..." I said and pulled myself up and away from the group, "How did I not see this..."
"Tris?" Lorelei said and walked over to me, "What do you mean... killed...?" I snapped back to the group and nodded.
"That's the only way Alateca's spirit can be free... but we've been looking for the wrong spirit."
"What do you mean?" Lance asked.
"We thought it was one of the twins..." I said.
"Zolia and Terriana," Maria said, "I remember a story Jeffory told me about once. Two powerful twins who were cursed to live on forever. Death does not affect them."
"They are untameable," Jeffory added in, "You thought it was one of them."
"Yes," I said, "Terriana, in her final moments in this lifetime, spent it protecting a single soul..."
"I remember that," Lief added in, "That was the last day I was here... Brother killed her... She was protecting-" Both mine and Lief's eyes were on Asch. His face was confused, distorted, and unknown.
"DeSilvia..." Ava said and Asch's eyes flashed to her, he looked like he was about to cry, "After you all left, I had a dream about her. She forced herself to stay in this world, to avenge a family member. Someone she loved with all her heart who was just like a sister to her."
"We saw Alateca underneath the castle!" Noi finally said what all of us were thinking.
"That means that my-No..." Asch took a few steps back before his eyes filled with tears.
"It means she can come back," I said and took a few steps towards her, "But Adrion... Adrion will not be able to."
"Did you just say Adrion?" Dad said and stepped forward toward us, all of our eyes were on him. His wide and full of confusion. "That's the name of my competition for office!" Ava and I took a step back.
"He's not... Damos..." Rhys said.
"I don't think he's ever been..." I said firmly, "He reminds me of someone from a dream I had once. Pierce was there."
"I remember that... a memory... I had to kill a human once..." Pierce muttered softly.
"This is great and all you've discovered who the real monster is!" Pop said and stepped in, for once, being the voice of reason, "But does anyone have a plan of what to do now?" I did... but it was not a good one, and I know no one would be on board.
"I do..." I said softly, turning and looking at my large group of friends, family, and almost unknown and untrustworthy individuals. "But I'm gonna have to die first."
Calmly the world sat, as I watch the white shades form around me. Everything was peaceful, even the slow trails of black lines forming in front of me were peaceful. My voice shuttered silent, "Will you lead me to her?" The lines slithered like snakes, crawling upwards to form a door which opened to me, and only me. "Thank you..."
The next room was black, all black. The only thing that was clear to see, was the glowing woman who floated about 15 feet away from me. Her long black hair flowed outwards, her clean white horns spiraled as a white glow took in her figure.
"Hello," I called out softly, "DeSilvia..." She heard me, heard me saying her name, and every other motion froze, her hair still, hanging in the air as she lowered herself to her feet, and turned towards me.
"Hello," She said calmly, "Have you come to take my place?" I looked up and smiled calmly.
"I am," I replied, "But not this place... Your family needs you... The world needs you now... Your sons need you."
"My... sons?" She asked with a perplexed look, "Rhal and Asch, they've grown? You know them!" Her face seemed to beam with light as I recounted the tales and adventures I've had with the two and the others as well. She seemed to smile brighter and brighter as we carried on. "I-I'm sad to have you take my place... it sounds they truly care for you..."
"I will still be there," I said, "I am Zolia's daughter... I am tied to both worlds... To them." She smiled and reached out for my hand, the final act before she could leave this plain, I would be left as the last Alateca.
"Is there a message you wish for me to bring back?" DeSilvia asked, our hands barely touching. I had to think for a minute, mostly on the moments before I left... Ava couldn't stop crying.
"Tris you can't!" Dad cried out.
"Alateca is clearly a part of Damos and Earthly history! A connector of both worlds!" I stated firmly, "She's connected through people! Like I am to all of you!"
"Tris..." Pop said, "You don't always have to be the hero..." My eyes looked all around the group, not one of who was on my side, then I caught Ava's eyes, staring right into mine. I could see the courage and the sorrow, the pain, and the hope, this light she had, and the darkness that was behind it.
"Lief..." Ava stated firmly while extending your hand, "Give me your knife." Everyone's eyes widened, but with this voice, she was using, Lief knew better than to argue.
"Pumpkin she's your sister!" Dad said, "You can't!"
"I can!" Ava said, "Tris has never done something without knowing with certainty it will be a good idea, and if we don't do this with her, she'll do it without us." She looked towards me and I could see everything in her eyes. The pain, hope, all of it was revealing itself to me. And in this instance, I knew what it meant to have a family. A real family. "And I'm doing it with her!" She turned and held my hand in one hand, holding up the knife in the other. "I love you, Tris... Human or Damos."
"What about a dragon, angel, and a phoenix?" I asked with a sly smile. She laughed.
"Tell Ava, that her sister, says," I said quietly, with slight tears, my hand fully reaching take DeSilva's, "And they lived, happily ever after."
"And for my sons?" She asked, but I can only shake my head. They will see me again. Once my name is written in the ash.
