Chapter 16-Promises (The Magic Crisis Part 2)
"I remember back on Earth, a read a book one time about a monster named Alateca," I finally say after almost a full day of not one of us speaking. We were all tired, but no one wanted to stop anymore. Pierce helped Noi walk along, but as I spoke, I know the two stopped.
"You knew about Alateca," Pierce said.
"And you didn't tell us?" Noi asked. I didn't need to turn back, I knew Noi was hurt by my long list of still ongoing secrets and Pierce was angry that they still existed. We all stopped for a minute. But I stayed standing, watching the river quietly.
"I remember how it went," I said with a hushed over, "It wasn't like other stories, it didn't start with 'once upon a time', maybe because this one was real..." I sighed and sat down, digging into my backpack. "There once were two sisters... one born of great light and power, the other born of chaos and darkness... unironically they were twins..." I pulled out a photo I had found in one of the books Lady Grandma had given me. It was of my family, my Damos family... I passed it around to everyone, not wanting to see any of the pink or multi-colored glares from their eyes. "The twins lived together with a demon, one named Carden who swore on his life to protect them... He was, after all, the one who wrote their prophecy..."
"What were their names?" Lief asked as he handed the picture to Asch, revealing the two sisters so secretly.
"The story continues, saying that when the twin of chaos died, her body inhabited another form," I continued, ignoring Lief's question, "Her task was not complete just yet, she had a few extra challenges. One being, to face her niece and nephew. Two powerful beings, who could either control the light like their Mother, or the chaos like their Father..."
"Who are they?" Asch asked in his demanding voice. To this point... I don't think it was really a question anymore.
"Earth and Damos' saviors..." I sighed while standing up, taking the picture from Rhys, before sticking it into the river and watching it float away, "We need to keep moving... C'mon..."
"No," Rhys said firmly and stood behind me, everyone else followed in his steps, "You've been distancing yourself even more so lately, hiding more than normal with us. We're with you no matter what happens. You said it yourself, we're a family. I've never had a family before, but I doubt they hide this much from each other. You can trust us..." I darted my eyes away, this was all very... familiar... My head began spinning and my figure wobbled as I tried to separate my thoughts into words. "Tris..." Without another motion, I fell back, and I didn't stop falling. I heard someone shouting something before I felt... trapped... confined... then free...
"Is she alive?!" I could hear Asch shouting.
"Yes, she's alive!" Rhys stated firmly, "Calm down, we don't want to startle her when she wakes up."
"Maybe it's like that story she taught me to read?" Noi said, "She needs to be woken up with a caress!" I jump up not a second later, my hands pushing them all back.
"NO!" I stated firmly, "I don't need a kiss!" Rhys helped me to stand and they all looked at me like I was crazy.
"Tris..." Rhys began again, "You promised us no more secrets." Then it hits me, this has happened before.
"Bumblebee," Pop looked at me with the saddest expression I've ever seen from him, "You promised us no more secrets..." I remember this day. I was in the hospital after one of my first fights. My entire chest was black and blue. They had no idea I was apart of a fight club.
"I know," I mustered out with a pout, "I just... I wanted to keep you all safe... I didn't want you to worry about me either..."
"Bumblebee," Dad said as he kneeled at my bedside, "We worry about you because you kept this secret."
"Your Father's right," Pop added in, "We know this whole fighting thing is what you've worked for, and that's honestly okay with us. It's terrifying to know one of our baby girls is fighting, but it's even scarier to know that you'd hide this from us."
"Just, promise you'll tell us next time..." Dad asked.
"I promise," I said softly with tears, "It's hard for me to talk to people, I don't want anyone to get hurt or anyone to worry about me... I just... You guys know how hard this is for me..."
"We know," Asch said stepping forward, with a smile. A kind, genuine smile. We stayed silent for a minute.
"Zolia and Terriana were the twins," I said softly, "My Mother and Aunt... Alateca is Terriana..."
"That means..." Lief looked at me with wide eyes, filled with sorrow, "Tris..."
"What?" Noi asked, "What does that mean?"
"It means that me and Derek-my brother-are the either the destruction or the salvation for both Damos and Earth..."
