IX - Kamino: The Hidden Planet

Someone didn't want us to find this planet, because here it is, right where it should be.

The planet looks like it's covered in storms at first glance, and that's before we breach the atmosphere. In two separate Starfighters, Obi-Wan and I find ourselves in the planet that exists but according to archives doesn't.

We're hit with instant downpours and the occasional thunder and lightning upon arriving on the planet. High above the rough, dark waters is a city. Who can live in such a place like this? Is sun even a thing here?

I follow and land my Starfighter beside Obi-Wan's. We're instantly drenched upon exiting our fighters. At least Obi-Wan has a hood to use as a poor shield; I've got nothing, so I'm facing the rain full-impact. We brace ourselves through the weather towards the tower on the other side of the landing platform.

Just as we reach the corridor entrance, the transparent door opens, and an alien with a very tall neck and white complexion is there to greet us. The light behind it is nearly blinding, a big contrast to the weather outside.

"Welcome, Master Jedi," it says. I can tell it's female by the pitch of the voice. "The Prime Minister has been expecting you."

"We've been expected?" I ask warily, casting a side-glance to Obi-Wan.

"Of course! He is anxious to meet you. After all these years, we were beginning to think you weren't coming. Now please, this way."

Obi-Wan and I follow the alien cautiously. There's no way they saw us coming here. I'm more confused than suspicious at the moment.

We're led into the Prime Minister's office, full of white. I'm sensing a theme. These aliens make me feel small in comparison.

"May I present Lama Su, Prime Minister of Kamino," says our greeter. "And this is Master Jedi..."

"Obi-Wan Kenobi."

"Thea Skywalker," I chirp. Stupid. But it's not like the Kaminoans would know whether or not I'm lying, right?

"Please," says Lama Su, who gestures towards odd-looking chairs. Obi-Wan and I sit down, I feel the presence of the other Kaminoan hovering. "And now to business. You will be delighted to hear we are on schedule. Two hundred thousand units are ready, with another million well on the way."

"That is...good news," I say. Okay, what is this alien talking about?

"Please tell your Master Sifo-Dyas that we have every confidence his order will be met on time and in full. He is well, I hope?"

"I'm sorry, Master—?"

"Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas. He's still a leading member of the Jedi Council, is he not?"

"Master Sifo-Dyas was killed almost ten years ago," says Obi-Wan.

"Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. But I'm sure he would've been proud of the army we built for him."

"The army?"

"Yes, the clone army. And I must say, one of the finest we ever created."

"Tell me, Prime Minister," Obi-Wan continues the conversation, "when my Master first contacted you about the army, did he say who it was for?"

"Of course he did. This army is for the Republic."

A Jedi Master requesting a clone army for the Republic? I don't know about Obi-Wan, but I feel more suspicious than before. And confused, definitely confused.

"You must be anxious to inspect the units for yourself," says the Prime Minister.

"That's why we're here," I chirp.

We're led by the Kaminoans out of the Prime Minister's office. The halls make me feel like I'm walking through an infirmary. I know in today's galaxy technology is very advanced, but this place feels like it's top of the line.

Obi-Wan and I are shown to the cafeteria of the facility. These clones bear all identical faces, and facial expressions. It's so uncanny that it's scary. Well, hence the term "clone".

"We modified their genetic structure to make them less independent than the original host. As a result they are totally obedient, taking any order without question."

"Who was the original host?" I ask.

"A bounty hunter called Jango Fett."

I exchange looks with Obi-Wan. Bounty hunter, huh? "Where is this bounty hunter now?"

"Oh, we keep him here. He's free to come and go as he pleases." Our tour continues through to the barracks. "Apart from his pay, which is considerable, Fett demanded only one thing—an unaltered clone for himself. Curious, isn't it?"

"Unaltered?"

"Pure genetic replication. No tampering with the structure to make it more docile...and no growth acceleration..."

"We would like to meet this Jango Feet," says Obi-Wan.

"I would be most happy to arrange it for you," says the female Kaminoan.

The four of us reach a balcony. Below are millions upon millions of clones, all garbed in white armor. They all march in unison, in perfect formation.

"Magnificent, aren't they?" asks Lama Su.

I can admit, they are pretty cool. They're all in uniform lines. Some are marching towards the inside of a ship. None of them miss a beat in their march. Incredible.

The rest of the tour is pretty informative. It makes me respect the Kaminoans just a little bit more. Their ability to clone...it's most impressive. Possibly unethical, but impressive all the same.

Maybe this is the right lead we've been waiting for. If this bounty hunter is the one who's after Padmé, we've got him in our sights. At last, this can be over.

During our tour, the female Kaminoan arranges our meeting with Jango Fett. I almost don't want to go. This facility brings out the curious little girl in me. I want to know more about the cloning process. Watch it, even. This curiosity, I hope, doesn't bring me bad things like the last time I'd gotten genuinely curious.

Obi-Wan and I are led by the female Kaminoan to Jango Fett's apartment. We wait by the door. When it opens, a young boy answers. This can't be Jango, can it? He reminds me of the boys we'd seen in the classrooms during the tour. He's got the same identical skin tone, eye color, and dark hair.

"Boba," says the female Kaminoan, "is your father here?"

The kid, Boba, thinks about it for a minute before nodding slowly.

"May we see him?"

"Sure." Boba looks at Obi-Wan and I suspiciously. He steps aside, and the three of us are let in. "Dad! Taun We's here!"

He appears from one of the bedrooms, clad in a jumpsuit. His face is unshaven, and he gives off a malevolent air. My suspicion is already off the charts. I'm trying not to judge right away, I want the evidence to prove that Jango Fett is the man we're looking for.

"Welcome back, Jango," Taun We tells him. "Was your trip productive?"

"Fairly." The bounty hunter's voice is gruff.

"These are Jedi Masters Obi-Wan Kenobi and Thea Skywalker. They've come to check on our progress."

"That right?"

"Your clones are very impressive," Obi-Wan tells him. "You must be very proud."

"I'm just a simple man, trying to make his way in the universe."

"Ever made your way as far into the interior as Coruscant?" I ask nonchalantly.

"Once or twice."

"Recently?"

Jango's eyes narrow. "Possibly."

"Then you must know Master Sifo-Dyas?"

Jango says something in a different language to his son. As his son walks away, Jango responds, "Master who?"

"Sifo-Dyas. Isn't he the Jedi who hired you for the job?"

"Never heard of him. I was recruited by a man called Darth Tyranus on one of the moons of Bogden."

"Mm, curious," I say.

"Do you like your army?"

"We don't have any complaints." My smile feels uncomfortable.

Jango grins. "They'll do their job well, I'll guarantee that."

"We look forward to seeing them in action," says Obi-Wan. "Thank you for your time, Jango."

"Always a pleasure to meet a Jedi."

Obi-Wan and I exchange looks as Taun We leads us out of Jango's apartment. He screams guilty. He's definitely who we've been looking for. Padmé won't have to hide anymore. We just need to find the right time to take him into custody.

I realize our visit is coming to an end as Taun We shows us to the door that, on the other side, out in the storm, are our fighters.

"Tell your council that the first battalions are ready," she says. "And remind them, if they need more troops, it will take more time to grow them."

"We won't forget," Obi-Wan tells her, "and thank you."

"Thank you."

I embrace the storm as Obi-Wan pulls his robe hood to try and shelter him from the downpour. We head for our fighters.

"R-Four!" Obi-Wan tells his droid in the fighter. "Scramble code five to Coruscant!" A little antennae comes up from the silver-and-red droid's head. From its one camera eye, it produces a hologram vision of two Jedi Masters: Mace Windu and Yoda. "We have successfully made contact with the prime minister of Kamino. They are using a bounty hunter named Jango Fett to create a clone army. We have a strong feeling that this bounty hunter is the assassin we're looking for."

"Do you think these cloners are involved in the plot to assassinate Senator Amidala?" asks Mace Windu.

"No, Master. There appears to be no motive."

"Do not assume anything, Obi-Wan," says Yoda's form. "Clear your mind must be if you are to discover the real villains behind this."

"Yes, Master. They say Master Sifo-Dyas placed an order for a clone army at the request of the senate almost ten years ago. I was under the impression he was killed before that. Did the Council ever authorize the creation of a clone army?"

"No," says Windu. "Whoever placed that order did not have the authorization of the Jedi Council."

"Bring him here," Yoda says. "Question him we will."

"Yes, Master. I will report back when we have him."

"Do you think our bounty hunter in question is still around?" I ask when the holograms disappear. "They let him come and go as he pleases, and if he thinks we're onto something..."

Obi-Wan understands what I'm getting at fairly quickly; he rushes back inside of the facility, with me hot in his heels.

We dash through the facility, back out into the rain. There, we find a docked ship, and Jango Fett in the gear we'd seen him in when he took off in Coruscant.

Jango doesn't notice us first; instead, his son, Boba, does.

"Dad, look!" Boba shouts through the storm, pointing in our direction.

Jango spins around. "Boba, get on board!"

Obi-Wan and I both ignite our sabers, his blue, mine green. Yes, my first instinct should be the blaster I carry—but Padmé isn't in direct danger as of now. If she's not in danger, I feel safe enough to wield my original weapon.

With two blasters, Jango alternates in shooting at us. He activates his jetpack, now soaring above us. As I deflect a bolt that near singes my face, I push out with the Force, sending Jango's pack to malfunction. He goes rolling off the platform.

In seconds, the ground is blasted at my feet, and Obi-Wan and I go soaring. We hit the damp ground, and I duck as Obi-Wan gets blasted away from an oncoming rocket. I reignite my saber, only to get blasted again. Stupid ship. Boba is using the ship's guns to try and kill us.

While Jango seems fixated on Obi-Wan, I've got Boba trying to blow me up. I feel the heat from the blasts as they explode just behind me. I take cover behind a small tower and peek around. Through my soaked bangs, I can see Obi-Wan tethered to Jango by strong wire of some sort. He launches midair, connecting his foot into Jango's chest. The two fall, skidding to opposite sides of the platform. Jango's pack escapes from his back, exploding in the air.

Just as the bounty hunter gets to his feet, Obi-Wan launches another kick, sending Jango off the ledge. I smack my forehead as I realize what Obi-Wan just now realizes: he's still tethered to Jango. He's yanked forward, and as I go to try and help him, Boba blasts at me, holding me in my poor cover, drenched in the storm.

I don't move for the longest time, until suddenly the firing stops. By the time I jump out from cover, the ship is taking off. From the corner of my eye, I see Obi-Wan come out of the door we had entered through. He chucks something at the ship—a tracker, I assume.

"Nice idea," I say. "Though, I can't say the same about your stunt with Jango back there."

Obi-Wan rolls his eyes. "Come on, we need to follow them."

**Um, hey, Wattpad, is it too much to ask to stop italicizing things that aren't supposed to be that way? Cause I'm getting annoyed with going through chapters I just edited to have to change it.**
