The war of the guardians

"What about Louis?" Liane asked, looking at Elena who was riding beside him. Liane had seen the Sept erupt into green fire and immediately knew that Elena was going to be the one who took the blame. He knew that the war would start again, for he had always known that it would eventually. After everything that had happened he knew that the Lannisters and the Starks couldn't live while the other was still breathing. The choice of at whose side he wanted to fight was made rather quickly.

Sam was riding on the other side of Elena, also glancing at her expectantly. The two had also known Louis for some time after the incident with his family. They had practically adopted the kid together with Damon, taking care of him like he was their little brother. It had taken months for Louis to open up to them for he had lost his whole family in a fire but when he finally did, he couldn't have been happier with their help. In return Louis brightened their days with his tricks and jokes.

Elena glanced behind her, trying to avoid the question and to check if her handmaidens, Felicity and Angelina, were still holding on. Those two had it the hardest. They never had to ride distances this far, let alone flee from the Lannisters. After they had escaped the city they had been riding for 2 days straight without any stop. To Elena's surprise though neither of the two had complained about a thing.

"He's gone." Elena looked down at the gravel beneath her horse's hooves. It still hurt, the image of Louis in chains on the opposite of her, the blood covering his bare chest and the defeated look in his eyes every time Ramsay would come.

"Damn." Liane sighed, clenching his hands into fists.

"I'm so sorry." Elena looked at the both of them. "If it's any consolation, he died still believing in us."

"That does sound like him." A faint smile played on Liane's lips as he looked up at the sky, trying to keep his tears at bay. Louis had always been a cheeky kid and never ceased to be able to make him smile with the smallest of words.

"He was a good kid." Sam sighed, grasping the reins of his horse tighter in his hands. He looked at the horizon before them and saw the Twins appear from behind the hills. Its two high towers looked grim against the setting sun with a faint red glow playing on the river's water. Later on he noticed the numerous tents on the other side of the river, their colours evident even in the faint light of the setting sun.

Elena's eyes widened when she followed his gaze, setting her eyes on Robb's army that had already arrived. A sense of home, of freedom came over her. She was free from the Lannister's grasp and this time she came back stronger than before. Even though Ramsay had left his marks on her body, she finally felt some hope boiling up in the pit of her heart.

It only took mere seconds before Elena spurred her horse and galloped towards the gates, spreading her wings when she arrived at the river for she was too inpatient to wait on the guards to open the gates. Her wings carried her over the waters that she had once dreaded to see but now she could only feel relief at the sight of the camp's reflection on the surface. The wind guided her towards the biggest tent of them all, its grey and black peak higher than any other.

She almost tumbled over when her feet touched the ground for she didn't pay any attention to her surroundings, all she could see was Robb's silhouette just a few feet away from her. She didn't even need to say his name, he had heard the rustle of her wings and the all too familiar scent filling his nose.

Soon enough he felt her warm body pressed against his, her tiny arms wrapped around his torso and her head buried in his chest. Robb wrapped both his arms around her tightly and lifted her feet from the ground, swirling her around while laughing in relief.

"You're back!" He chuckled happily, his voice muffled by her hair. He buried himself deeper and deeper into their embrace, breathing in her scent and the familiarity of her body, the way they seemed to fit perfectly against each other. He grasped her waist with both his hands and pushed her off lightly, glowering down at her face. "Gods, I've missed you." He didn't even try to keep the tears at bay, he let them flow freely.

One of his hands raised to her cheek, cupping it in his large hand, completely covering the side of her face. "From now on we're going to stick together, okay?" He simply ordered while looking down at her tearful eyes. She nodded, smiling widely as her hands ran through his hair freely.

"No peace accords, no bastard is going take us apart. Not anymore, understood?" Robb continued, savouring the look on her face.

"I won't let go." Elena smiled up at him, sobbing silently. She buried herself into his chest again, letting his warmth engulf her fully. If it had been hours that passed she wouldn't have known. It felt like mere seconds.

"Elena?" A small voice caused her to disentach herself from Robb, her eyes widening just at the sound of his voice. Elena turned towards him, not believing her eyes when she saw him and his wolf standing there next to one of the tents.

"Rickon?" Her voice was small, barely audible. "You're alive!" She exclaimed and ran towards him, falling down on her knees to be at the same level as him so she could look at his face. Elena could hear Robb's chuckle from behind her as she also took Rickon in her arms, now fully crying of happiness. "I thought you were dead." Elena sobbed as she wrapped her arms around the little boy. "You're alive!" She repeated over and over again.

"Elena!" She didn't even need to look up at them because soon enough she felt Arya's and Sansa's arms wrapped around her too.

"Ain't that a sight for sore eyes." Damon smiled as he came to stand next to Robb, smiling down at them. It was probably the first time ever that Robb could see tears forming in Damon's eyes as the relief washed over him at the sight of his sister.

"Damon?" Elena's head appeared from under the multiple bodies engulfing her. She smiled at him, her tear stained face lighting up immediately when she saw her brother.

"Next time, you will be the one leaving with the weapon." Damon stated, trying to glare at her but failed miserably as a relieved smile still covered his face.

"I hope it won't come to that." Abigail appeared from behind one of the tents. "If we're lucky we wouldn't have to run away with the dagger because it'd be plunged inside someone." Elena looked at her hand that was intertwined with Jon's, summoning an even bigger smile on her face.

She walked towards Jon and gave him a crushing hug, whispering in his ear as she did so. "And here I was thinking that we'd both first ask the other for advice whether to do it or not." She smiled mischievously.

"Since you didn't listen to my advice first I thought it unnecessary." He chuckled.

"Well, it was Robb, nobody in his right mind would've told me to be with him."

"Hey!" Robb narrowed his eyes at her.

Abigail heard their conversation and chuckled, glancing down at the floor as a faint blush formed on her cheeks. "It's been going on for some time, we were both just too busy to notice."

"I had to point it out to them." A woman Elena didn't know arrived, smiling at her. "I'm Mary, Steven's wife. And this is my son, Castiel." She looked down at the boy proudly, ruffling his hair in the process. "I have heard much about you, Elena Snow." She looked back up at her when Elena turned away from Jon.

"Your son?" Elena looked at the small boy with raven black hair and blue eyes, glancing back at Mary who had blond hair just like Steven.

"He's adopted." Mary saw her confused look, laughing silently.

"But we love him all the more." Steven appeared from behind his wife, placing a small kiss on the top of her head as he placed his hand around her waist.

"Steven!" Elena exclaimed, running towards him and almost making them both fall down as she hugged him tightly.

"You scared us." Steven whispered as he placed his chin on her head. "We thought you were going after Cersei."

"I didn't." Elena looked up at him. His eyes looked down at her until they heard the sound of hooves on the mud behind them.

"Liane? Sam?" Steven's eyes lit up. "You're here!" He smiled and walked towards them, giving both of them a bone crushing hug after they had dismounted.

"We couldn't let you fight this war on your own, cap." Liane smiled and laid his hand on his shoulder. "After all, I am the brains and you are the muscle."

"And I am the dagger." Sam smiled, towering over everyone there. He walked towards Mary, engulfing her in a hug. "And of course, I couldn't leave my sister."

Mary smiled up at him while Castiel threw himself in Sam's arms who lifted him up. "How's the little guardian doing?"

"I can do telekinesis." He smiled proudly, holding a leaf in his hand which soon levitated with a light blue glow around it.

"He hasn't got his wings yet but I'm sure he will earn them soon." Mary said when Sam put him down. "Especially now that his uncle is here."

Elena smiled at the sight of Castiel, his blue eyes dancing in joy. She walked towards Robb and locked their hands, knowing that she couldn't take more time greeting them after everyone fell silent.

"So, what happened?" Steven asked while his eyes filled with sorrow.

"Cersei Lannister blew up the sept of Bealor with thousands of people inside it, including the leader of their faith and queen Margaery Tyrell. King Tommen Baratheon is gone as well by..." Elena looked down, seeing the boy's broken face once again. "Which means that-"

"Cersei has the Iron Throne." Steven finished her sentence.

"I know we've been through a lot and lost more than we could possibly bear. Aidan, Louis, Ella, Santana. Gillian." Elena bit on her lip. "But we need to defeat Cersei, she knows only violence, only death. She won't give up the war or the throne easily, not with Ethan by her side."

Elena remained silent for a while, looking at everyone around her. Then she turned her eyes at Damon, Abigail and Steven. "That's why our main priority needs to be to take him out. He may be the one they call the dark one, he may be immortal but we are the last guardians. We're the only thing that keeps him from taking the iron throne for himself, we're the only ones capable of putting him down. So will you follow me, one last time?"

"We will." Steven confirmed and straightened his back while the others nodded in agreement.

"It's the only thing I could do after aiding him to repay my debts." Abigail bit on her lip and casted her eyes down.

Only Damon didn't say anything. The painful look in his eyes showed Elena enough though. He lifted them to meet hers, his desperate eyes searching for the same hesitation. He's our brother.

We don't have a choice. Elena said mentally, tears filling her eyes. It was probably harder for Damon to let the memory of his brother go, he had known him the best. Elena couldn't remember how Ethan was before the darkness took over.

"I'll help you." Robb wrapped his arm around Elena's waist and pulled her against his side. "The army is ready to march south. We'll take back what we've lost and more till we can get to King's Landing to take both Cersei and Ethan out."

Robb directed them towards his tent where there was an huge map with his strategies all planned out. "First we'll march towards Casterly Rock while taking down the cities on our way there. They wouldn't be able to get their resources including weapons, gold, armour and food." Robb explained.

"The city will rise against Cersei, they're already weary of her. When there's lack of food they'll surely protest." Elena looked up at Robb with a determined look on her face.

"We can't rely on that, we've already underestimated them once before. Look where that got us." Robb reasoned and redirected his attention back to his plans. "We'll block their trading routs with Highgarden there." Robb pointed to a location. "This we'll continue till the city has lost all of its suppliers, it will make them weaker and possibly vulnerable. That's when we'll strike. It will take at least two years, maybe three, but it's the best we've got."

Abigail nodded, looking at the map before her while leaning her hands on the table. "Count me in." She looked up.

"I couldn't have thought of a better strategy myself." Steven nodded. "I'm in."

"Damon?" Robb turned towards him.

"I would never leave my sister's little princess to fight his wars on his own." Damon smirked as he looked up at Robb who chuckled lightly. "I'm in."

"Then that's it." Robb put both his hands on the table and looked around at all the people gathered around the table. "Let's fight a war."
