The Twins

"If this is love, I do not want it." - Tauriel, The Hobbit: The battle of the 5 armies.

"Tell me, lord Frey, who commanded you to kill me?" Robb was pacing in the great hall of the Twins. His men were holding Walder Frey and his children tightly with their hands held together behind their backs. The children were shaking and some pleading the soldiers to let them go. Somewhere in the back of the room stood Elena with her arms wrapped tightly before her chest as she attentively watched Robb's every move. She wanted to stop what was happening but she didn't have no choice but to stand there. She had angered Robb enough as it was.

She didn't know what to do. She had killed way too many men during the battle already. Robb was a good man but right now he was beyond reason. He was torturing Walder's children for information he was not going to give.

"Tell me." Robb growled as he pushed Grey Wind closer to Walder Frey. The wolf bared his teeth threatingly, the low rumble of his grow being the only sound that filled the hall.

"You really think I follow orders from anyone you little pig?" Walder growled back.

"No, but you do want money, don't you? So who was paying you to kill me?" Even Robb's own voice was different than how Elena remembered it. Instead of the gentle, husky voice he spoke slowly and threatingly. Walder Frey looked up at Robb without saying anything. He didn't care about the Lanissters safety, he didn't tell Robb only because he didn't want to lose his pride. As little as was left of it anyway.

"Fine. Bring his eldest son." Robb turned around and ushered the guard holding him to come forward.

"If you don't answer the question, I will kill him." Robb moved behind the man, holding a knife to his throat. He himself wasn't even sure if he could do it. Killing was never in his nature, as wasn't torturing. Yet the rage was consuming him from the inside out.

Walder Frey only sat there, looking at Robb. He knew that Walder wasn't going to say anything.

"So be it." Robb killed the man. Elena gasped, she didn't expect him to really do it. The man was mostly innocent, killing him would proof or help nothing. Elena had thought that Robb wouldn't do it. It would only destroy his honor and he would have killed a man without mercy. Darkness was taking control of Robb's mind, Elena had to stop it. Only she didn't know how.

"Bring the next." Robb ordered and cleaned his sword from the blood. His eyes were cold and lifeless as he stared at the red liquid that covered the floor at his feet. For a moment something flickered through his eyes but it quickly vanished when Robb thought back to the day before that.

"Now I'm going to ask you again, who paid you to kill me?" Robb again held his sword against the throat of a child. This was the youngest daughter, a girl of barely 3 years old. Walder Frey again said nothing, only now he had tears in his eyes. It's not like he truly cared about his daughter, sometimes he even forgot her name as he did with most of his children for he had too many.

Robb sighed and closed his eyes as he again moved his sword to kill the child.

"Wait!" The eldest daughter stopped him. Everyone looked at her, Elena with a sign of gratitude. "I... I will tell you. Just please let her go." The eldest daughter pleaded with the palms of her hand pressed together before her.

Robb loosened his grip on the child. "Go on then." Robb growled.

"It was the Lannisters." She quickly said.

"You're a disgrace to your family!" Lord Frey shouted at her. She slightly winched back, making herself smaller by bowing her back. Her widened eyes flickered between Robb and her father, trying to deside who to be more afraid of. After seeing the madness is Robb's eyes that decision was made rather quickly.

"Tell me more." Robb said without emotion.

"The Lannisters had sent Roose Bolton to kill you, he was going to stab you but then she interfered." The eldest sister could barely talk in between her sobs as she pointed at Elena. She glanced around awkwardly as all eyes focused on her. Elena cleared her throat and casted her eyes down to the floor, shifting uncomfortably on her feet.

"Roose Bolton was our spy and brother, he would never betray us."

"But he did." The eldest sister literally pleaded Robb to believe him. She fell to her knees and looked up at him. "Please your grace, let us go."

"Robb." Elena said and took a few steps forward. Robb immediately glared at her. He was still angry with her after the fight they had that morning. "I think she's telling the truth."

The eldest sister cried and thanked Elena silently. Robb looked back at the woman, he knew that Elena was right when he saw her kneeling there. After all, she wouldn't risk her sister's life.

"I'm going to kill you when they're gone." Walder Frey hissed at his daughter.

"That won't be necessary." Robb said and turned towards his men. "Kill them all, we need to make an example for what happens to traitors."

"No!" Elena yelled loudly. Even through all the screams of the Frey's she was audible. The Northerners were dazed and just stood there, they didn't think that he would actually order them to do such a thing. Some followed his orders blindly though and some even with a mad smile covering their face. They knew it was mostly to set an example of what would happen when you betrayed him. It was to scare the others so that Robb would never be betrayed again.

Only Elena stopped them before they could even attempt to kill anyone. She blasted the Northerners away using her powers, posing in front of the family with her wings spread to shield them from the soldier's sight. "You won't kill them." Elena stood in front of the family without Walder.

"Walder Frey you may kill but his family you will leave unharmed." She stated. They stepped back immediately except for Robb who knew that she would never hurt him. He glanced at her wings for a moment, looking at the light blue spots on her pearly white feathers. He remembered caressing those wings, softly stroking every feather. Those faint memories soon returned back to the little corner of his brain where they were hidden before.

"Elena." Robb warned her. "You know what I said this morning. This family is full of traitors, everyone is better off without them."

"I will use it." Elena said as she held up her hand, her palm facing Robb. She could cast a spell at him any moment and nobody could stop her.

"Whose side are really you on?" Robb protested, the feeling of betrayal again filling him. He stepped forward in anger, pointing at her furiously.

"These people are innocent, taking their lives will gain you nothing." Elena said. Robb looked at her, she noticed him thinking over his decision. Maybe there was hope left for him after all.

"I will make sure that they won't harm anybody. Please Robb, I know you're angry but killing these people won't help. You can do anything you want with Walder Frey but please leave his children out of it." Elena pleaded while tears started to form in her eyes. She was scared, so scared that she had lost her Robb. She was scared that the grieve would become too much for him, she was scared it would destroy his soul and leave only darkness behind.

"She's right your grace, killing them would bring dishonor." One of his bannermen said hesitantly. Robb looked at him for a few moments.

"Take them to their chambers, make sure they are guarded day and night." Robb decided and Elena sighed in relieve as she wrapped her wings and hid them in her back.

"If any of you tries to run or betray us in anyway, you will be killed." Robb spoke to the Frey family, looking each one of them in the eye. "Understood?"

They all nodded and soon all the knights that were standing in the great hall lead them to their chambers, only Walder Frey was left behind with the other Northerners.

"What of him?" One of Robb's bannermen asked as he nodded at Walder.

"Leave us." Robb told everyone. So they all left, Elena included. "Not you." Robb pointed at her. She hesitated first but then came to stand next to him.

"Your grace?" She stuttered. Robb was surprised to hear her stutter, she had always been a strong and confident woman. Maybe the grieve had gotten to her too. For she had also lost people she cared about in a short amount of time.

"I thought you might want to see this, you cared about my mother too, did you not?" He didn't look at her at all, his gaze was fixed on Walder.

"Indeed I did." Elena sighed and looked at the ground. Robb then looked at her. He knew how hard it was for her, having lost Catelyn, she was like a mother to her. She had never met her real mother, at least not as far as she could remember. Robb walked towards Walder who followed every step he took with his eyes.

"You won't win this war." Walder said. "You're too young and naïve."

"At least I won't die a traitor like you." Robb said. He straightened up, holding his sword in both his hands. "I, Robb Stark, King in the north, hereby sentence you to death on account of treason and murder. Do you have anything left to say before you die?"

Walder looked up at Robb and then glanced at Elena. "You chose the wrong king to protect. You should've chosen the Lannisters, just like he did."

Robb let out a furious growl and then suddenly drove his sword into Walder Frey's chest. It was a fast but painful death, Robb looked in the eyes of Walder as the life vanished from them. Instead of what he had expected, the grief didn't dissapear. He was left feeling empty.

"10 000 men? We lost 10 000?!" Robb exclaimed as he stood around a table with his war council.

"Your grace, there was nothing we could do, we were unarmed and unprepared." A man named Gillian said, one of Robb's bannermen and one of Elena's best friends. He and she glanced at each other every so often, trying to hold back their exitement of seeing each other again.

"Now we have only 8 000 left, how are we ever going to defeat the Lannisters with 8 000 men?" Robb's gaze was focused on the map in front of him. "There is no way that 8 000 men can take down the Red Keep."

"There may be another way." Elena stepped forward, she had been in the shadows of the tent during the previous part of the council trying to stop herself from running towards Gillian and squeezing him in a tight hug. "A targaryen queen is rising in the east, we could join forces with her."

"Wasn't it the Targaryens that destroyed your kind?" A bannermen said, Elena didn't feel the need to remember any name of any man around this table.

"Yes it was, but that was a long time ago. We now have bigger worries than conflicts of the past." Elena said and looked up. Everyone was listening closely, even Robb. "She has three dragons and an army of unsullied. Her army is still growing. If you choose to not join her, I don't think we have the slightest chance of winning this war if she ever ventures here."

"How do you know that she will come here?" Gillian asked as he looked up at her. He had mid length dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. It was weird for them to be this serious around each other since they always teased each other before.

"I don't. But it's our only chance." Elena replied as she put both her hands on the table while she stood next to Robb. Her eyes locked with Gillian's again who gave her a nod in approval and smiled slightly.

"It would take ages until she's here, right now an army is coming our way. We can't rely on her right now." Another man said, as he looked around the table. "We can close the bridge so they can't reach us, we have the Twins now." He continued.

"If we do that, they will find another way to cross the river or they will fire at us with arrows and catapults." Robb said as he had his blue eyes fixed on the map.

"I say we fight." The old man said as he slammed his fists on the table.

"If the scouts are right, they are with way more men than we have. We will lose the battle before we can draw our swords." Gillian said as he glared at the older man. He had hated him for all of his life, their houses were born enemies. Only for their king would they work together.

"I say we think of a trap." Elena said. "Lure them on the bridge then close the gates. It wouldn't take out the whole army, but it will take out a lot."

"And how do you plan on doing that?" The old man asked, evidently not impressed by her.

"If we set camp around the Twins, they will have to cross the bridge to get to us. We will make sure they don't know we have the Twins. But we do send bowmen on the towers, we have to make sure the Lannisters don't know they're there. So when half the army is on the bridge, close both gates so they're trapped. Then the bowmen can shoot them from above before the Lannisters even know what is happening. They will die in a matter of seconds."

"That's a ridiculous idea." The old man blurted out. "Why is she even on this council, she's a bloody woman!"

"I think it's a great plan." Gillian said as he smiled at Elena proudly.

"How do we make sure they don't know that the bowmen are on the towers?" A councilman asked.

"Barricade the entrances to the towers so they can't enter them. Make it look like the towers had been destroyed." Another man said.

"What if they see the bowmen and shoot them first?"

"I can help then. I will fly over the bridge and shoot them, although it's a bit hard to fly and shoot at the same time. Or I could destroy the bridge." Elena said.

"No." Robb interfered, everyone was startled by his voice. It wasn't like he had spoken loud, no it was the way he said it. "I will not risk your life for this." he said as he looked up at Elena. Even after the fight they had that morning he still cared for her, he couldn't lose her too.

"Will you risk the lives of your bannermen then? No, I will defend, even when you don't want me to." She shot back, though she was happy he still cared for her, she couldn't risk the lives of so many men.

"Fine. Only when all of the bowmen are down, you take down that bridge, understood?"

"Fine." Elena sighed deeply in defeat."

"Good. Now everyone, get the trap ready. We're going to kill some Lannisters."
