Old friend

"I wish I was the monster you think I am." - Tyrion Lannister, Game of Thrones.

"He trains you in sword fighting?" Gillian laughed at Elena. He knew how much Elena practically hated Robb and now she was forced to let him train her.

"Your father demands it." Elena sighed as she looked at Jon and threw one of the sticks she picked up from the ground away in frustration.

"Don't try to kill him." Jon chuckled and looked at Bran who was climbing in the tree above them. They would do this every day, just sitting with the three of them in the Godswood. This day Gillian had joined them since his father had come to visit Eddard. It had been two years now that Elena lived here, she, Gillian and Jon had grown closer than they had ever expected.

"I could easily kill him." Elena huffed and looked up at Bran, worry filling her. She still was a Guardian, worrying was one of the downsides of being one.

"You might be surprised." Jon looked up too when Bran let out a shriek. He remembered something Robb had told him and chuckled. "He defeated you when you tried to escape, didn't he?

"Shut up." Elena playfully slapped Jon, her cheeks reddening. "I was exhausted, all right? If I had been fully awake I would've easily defeated him."

"Sure." Gillian didn't sound convinced, a playful smile on his lips. Jon chuckled lightly while closing his eyes.

"I hate you." Elena smiled too, only because she enjoyed the company. Jon chuckled and shook his head, his dark curls dancing around his head as he did so.

"Elena!" Robb' voice filled the woods, his footsteps coming closer.

"Speaking of the devil." Elena sighed and stood up. "'Guess my time here is up."

"Have fun with your training." Gillian teased Elena.

"Good luck." Jon smiled.

"You better watch out, Karstark, before I kill you." Elena narrowed her eyes at him before she walked away, following Robb' voice.

"There you are." Robb sighed when Elena came into view, he didn't like this too but his father had commanded him to train her. After all that had happened, the wildlings almost raping her, he saving her and the talk in the Godswood, his feelings for her had changed. Right now he just didn't know what to think off her.

"Having fun with Karstark?" Robb asked and turned towards the edge of the wood where they always trained.

"Well, yes actually." Elena frowned at Robb, his tone had been remarkably snappy. She picked up one of swords they always used during those train sessions but Robb didn't follow her lead. He just stood there, looking at her with a frown on his face.

"What is it?" Elena shifted her feet uncomfortably, his gaze was making her feel uneasy. She suddenly felt unsure of how she looked, she had dressed as usual: her blue long dress (Catelyn still wouldn't let her wear pants) and her golden/white hair in a braid that was hanging loosely on her shoulder.

"My lady, I've been wondering, why didn't you leave us?" Robb asked out of the blue.

"What do you mean?"

"When we took you here after we found you, you didn't return to your family." Robb was puzzled, he had been wondering about this for a long time.

"Well..." Elena sighed and sat down on one of the benches, looking at the trees before them. "I don't have any family left you see. My father was the only one that remained to me, my mother died birthing me."

"I'm sorry." Robb said genuinely, it was practically the first time he said something like that to Elena.

"It's not your doing." Elena smiled at Robb, also practically for the first time since they'd met.

"Nor yours either I bet." Robb smiled also, his face lighting up. He stared at Elena for a few seconds, she was still a mystery for him. She was different than all the others, she was feisty when others where neat, she defended herself while the other girls would just crawl back in their hole.

"So..." Elena broke the silence, getting uneasy under Robb' gaze. "Are we going to train or what?"

"No," Robb chuckled at her. "this time, my lady, we are going to work with bow and arrow."

"I've never done that before." Elena frowned, now she would never defeat him, something that still was on her to do list.

"Good time to start then, maybe you will be better at this than sword fighting, shouldn't be too hard."

"I'm going to kill you." Elena narrowed her eyes at him while she stood up and took the bow from Robb.

"You might find that less enjoyable when you've done it." He didn't let go of the bow, forcing Elena to look at him.

"And why is that? You think I would miss you?" Elena chuckled and dared to look him straight in his blue eyes. Just for a moment she thought that she saw his eyes lingering on her lips before they shot back to her eyes.

He then chuckled and let Elena take the bow.

"Try it." He nodded at the target. Elena fired and missed, obviously. It hit a tree like five metres away from its target.

"Here, hold it like this." Robb said and showed her the position of how her hands where supposed to be by engulfing her hands in his. Elena' body suddenly shook, Robb was close to her, his body against her back, his breath tickling her skin. His hands were above hers which were holding the bow.

"Now shoot." Robb whispered but Elena heard him loud and clear. She let go of the arrow, sending it to the target. It hit right in the middle.

"See? It's that easy." Robb said, his mouth close to her ear. His hands found its way to her waist where he placed them. Elena shivered but didn't step away from him. In some way she actually liked it.

"Go on, shoot. " Robb urged on, his hands still on her waist. Elena just couldn't properly function, her hands were trembling and her muscles tightening. She could feel his gaze on her, his lips almost touching her cheek.

"Relax your bow arm." Robb commanded. Elena did and then fired the arrow, it hit the target but it was definitely not in the middle.

"Well, guess you won't be any better at this than Sword fighting." Robb chuckled and walked away from Elena, the place where his hands first were was tickling now that they were untouched.

"Jerk." Elena muttered under her breath and let out a deep sigh, she could finally breathe normally.

"I heard that!"

"Protect your king!"

Elena looked at Robb with widened eyes. There were only a few drops of blood coming from under the dagger but it was enough to trigger the guards. They launched at Elena, she gave Robb one last look before she turned around and put her hands before her to protect herself from the swaying swords.

The guards who were closest to her froze immediately, their hands frozen in mid-air. Elena kicked another who was blocking her way and then ran towards the exit of the tent. She knew she had to leave, assaulting the king, no matter the circumstances will always end with death penalty for the attacker.

"Stop her!!" The guard who she had kicked down yelled, his voice filling the entire camp. All of the soldiers around their tents turned to look at Elena and then grasped their swords.

"Shit." Elena cursed and unwrapped her wings, which knocked down several other men who were charging towards her. She then flew away, her wings carrying her up. The yells from down below started to get louder and louder, several arrows and spears were fired at her body. She started to head North when suddenly she felt an agonizing pain filling her head.

"Not so fast." Something had damaged her left wing, the pain was filling Elena's entire body. She had no control of her wings anymore, she fell down and crashed onto a tent.

"Seven hells." Elena groaned and got up between the mess she had made around her. She had fallen through a wooden building, when she took a look around she realized she had crashed into the prisons.

"Find her!!" The guards yelled from outside, Elena could hear their footsteps coming closer.

"I would hide, if I were you." The Dark One chuckled in her mind. Elena followed his advice and entered the first cell she reached, its lock had been destroyed by the crash. She backed against the wall to take a few breaths.

"Why should I listen to you?" She frowned and then immediately stood up again after realizing who she had been talking to. She bowed slightly and looked around every corner to see if anybody was there. Sometimes she had to hide behind the bushes or tents when groups of soldier came marching by.

Before Elena left she had to find her bow and arrow and maybe her cloak, for these were the only things she had left from her past.

"You just can't help yourself, can you?" The Dark One sighed.

The next morning Elena found her way out of the camp, she had put on her black hood to try and hide herself from anyone' sight. After that she just hid in the woods for weeks, hiding from the Northern army' sight as she guarded them day and night. The Dark One would just tease her every day, saying bad things in her head, tempting her to just give it up and let Robb be killed. Elena didn't give up though.

It did make her reckless.

One day she stood at the top of the hill when she looked down on the camp. Eventually several guards came running her way, they were riding their horses, looking straight at her.

So she ran away, her feet carrying as fast as they could. Only when she reached the other side of the hill, she saw an army marching towards the camp. Dread filled Elena until she realized it wasn't the enemy, the soldiers were carrying the flag of house Karstark, they were coming to help.

Gillian... Elena realized what he had done. Gillian had called for his men before he had died... Elena smiled in relief, now she could leave knowing Robb was protected by enough men.

"Get her!!" The guards were only several feet away, Elena hadn't realized that they had come so close.

Elena ran straight into the forest, the twigs and leaves got stuck in her hair while her hood got torn apart. She ran until suddenly there were no trees anymore. Elena sighed stressfully and climbed up a tree, thinking that her enemies won't find her there.

"Where the hell is she?" Elena heard a man curse below her, their horses stopped right below the tree she was in.

"I'm sure she ran this way." Another said, confusion laced in his tone. He turned around on his horse and looked through the forest to find a trace.

"She must've flown away."

"No, her wings were damaged." Elena's eyes widened when she recognized the voice. It was Robb, only he sounded different. "Find her."

"Your grace, what do we do when we find her?"

Robb sighed. "She's a danger to us all, you must kill her the second you lay eyes on her." Elena's heart skipped a beat, her body frozen in fear while the pain of betrayal filled her.

"My dear sweet Elena, I told you he wasn't to be trusted." The Dark One chuckled in her mind. "Now look at your sweet prince, trying to find you and kill you after all you've done for him."

"He doesn't mean it, he knows I won't let them find me." Elena told him and herself, trying to get the doubt and pain away.

"My king." The men bowed before him and urged their horses to ride off. They disappeared from Elena's sight in a matter of seconds. As did Robb, she followed him with her eyes until he too vanished behind the thick trees.

Elena slowly climbed out of the tree. Everything was hurting, her muscles were sore, her power weakened, her heart full of pain and betrayal and her wings just felt dreadful. She groaned when her feet finally touched the ground. Resisting the urge to lie down on the ground Elena took one step forward.

Leaves cracked beneath his boots when he stepped from behind the tree, the sound of a sword filled the air as Robb put the point against Elena's throat. The metal felt cold against her delicate skin. Her eyes widened and she looked up at his eyes.

He looked absolutely dreadful, dark circles were under his bloodshot eyes, his hair was a mess but he still managed to stand up tall, looking strong like the king he was meant to be. Robb narrowed his eyes at Elena and pushed the sword even harder against her throat. There was nothing but hate in his eyes as he spit the words at Elena.

"I should've killed you when I had the chance."
