Dear brother

The problem is that I care way too much about people who don't give a shit about me.

"Last time I saw him was in Winterfell. He said: next time I see you, you will be all in black." Jon said as he looked at the letter that Sam had given him. They were in Castle Black. Outside the building the men were practicing for the battle to come in the cold, hard weather. Jon had just returned from beyond the wall, from the wildlings.

He missed Ygritte so much but he knew his loyalty laid with the black and not with the wildlings. It was a hard choice to make, but he had chosen for the wall.

"I was jeaulous of Robb my whole life." Jon said and turned towards Sam with the letter still in his hand, trying his best not to burst out in tears. "The way my father looked at him, I wanted that. He was better than me at everything; fighting, hunting, riding and girls." Jon chuckled at the last word.

"I wanted to hate him but I never could." Jon's face looked grimm, he was concerned for his brother. The letter that he was given didn't say he was dead, but it made it obvious that there was a big chance he was.

"We don't know for sure he's dead yet." Samm tried to lighten the mood, he hated it to see Jon sad. "And by the way, you're also better than me at everything."

Jon raised an eyebrow at Samm.

"Except for reading of course." Sam added with a small smile on his face. The two laughed at that.

"Now the wildlings are coming and we have no chance whatsoever to beat them." Jon sighed and sat on the bed with a plump.

"Don't say that." Sam whined and walked towards Jon. "We've got a lot great swordsmen like you to hold the castle."

"I don't know if I can fight them." Jon looked at his lap. "After everything I've done with them, climbing the wall, eating and I even slept with one, I don't know if I can kill them."

"Maybe I won't even make it till the battle, maybe they will hang me for treason or for breaking my vows." Jon looked at his dire wolf, Ghost who was sleeping in the corner of the room.

"They won't kill you, they need you now more than ever." Sam encouraged him, like he always does. Jon looked up at his friend. He had never expected to become brothers with him, first he hated him for being a coward and for being, well... fat. But now Sam was truly like a brother to him.

Jon smiled as he looked up at him, trying to encourage himself.

"I hope you're right."

"Your grace," Gillian came barging in the tent, holding a letter in his hands. "I think you might want to see this."

Robb looked up from the map, he had been thinking what to do next. With his sister back at his side he had gained new courage to get back his other sister who was still in King's Landing.

"What is it?" Robb walked towards Gillian and took the letter from his hands.

"I, Roose Bolton hereby claim the dominion of The North and swear feilty to his grace Joffrey Baratheon as his new warden of the North?" Robb read out loud. His eyebrows furrowed as he read the letter. "How can he claim the North when I'm still living?"

"Everyone thinks you're dead." Elena said and walked towards Robb so she could read the letter too. "Besides, his troops will have probably taken the North by now, seeing we're still here doing nothing."

"We don't have the troops to do anything Elena." Robb looked at her, remembering the times when he could still hate her. It would've been a lot easier for him now if he could. "Not after this traitor tried to kill me." Robb referred to Roose Bolton and threw the letter to the ground.

"How can I defeat Joffrey, Stannis and take the North back at the same time with this lot?" Robb looked through the door of the tent, seeing his soldiers stumble through the camp, drunk.

"You're apparently the King in the North now, Robb. I think you should first take back the North and revenge your mother by killing Roose Bolton." Elena proposed.

"What about Sansa, have you forgotten about her?" Robb looked at Elena.

"No of course not. As I said earlier, let me get her while you take the North back. I can easily break into the Red Keep and fly away with Sansa on my back."

"No Elena, it's too dangerous." Robb sighed.

"But Robb-"

"I said no Elena! End of discussion!" Robb yelled. Everyone in the tent was startled by his sudden outburst. Robb's breaths came out in fast, ragged gasps as he balled his fists. He could not risk her life for another, not again.

"If we wait any longer there will be no North to take back." Elena whispered. She was afraid that if she would speak any louder, Robb would become even more angry.

"And why is that?" Robb put both his hands on the table.

"We received a letter from Castle Black, they need more men. They say an army of wildlings, bigger than there ever was, is coming."

"I can't help them. I don't have the men and to get to the Wall, we must cross the North. I don't think Roose Bolton would let us do that." Robb studied the map in front of him. He knew he had a small chance of winning this war, but he had to try. He had no other choice. "We've only got 8 000 men. What can we do with such a small army?"

"We're wolves, are we not?" Elena straightened her back and looked at everyone in the tent, who nodded. "Wolves hunt in small packs, they track down their enemies slowly and in the shadows."

"We will have to hunt our enemies down one by one. First the Boltons, when we have defeated them, more Northmen will come and join us. Maybe if we can convince her, Lysa will provide us with an army of the vale. Now that they've killed her sister I think we have a bigger chance she will." Elena looked around the table, looking at the lords who were listening closely, nodding at the things she said.

"Then we can send some to the wall and make sure it stands. After the wall is secured we can continue to the South where we will take down Joffrey and avenge your father, mother and all of those we have lost in this war." Elena said.

"How can we just defeat the Boltons with 8 000 men?" One of Robb's bannermen wasn't convinced, he hated the fact that a woman was in the council. Everyone was silent after that, nobody knew the answer.

"Leave us." Robb said which led to everyone leaving the tent except for Elena. When the rest had left Robb groaned in agony and stumbled towards a chair, his strong facade he had put up fading.

"I told you you should have rested, having been pierced by 3 arrows in your chest isn't very natural." Elena rolled her eyes but nevertheless walked over to Robb. "Take off your shirt."

"What?" Robb frowned in confusion.

"You're bleeding Robb. It's not like I want to see you shirtless." Elena rolled her eyes at him. He sighed and then took his shirt off slowly, it caused a lot of pain to move.

Elena excamined the wounds after she had taken off the bandages which were soaking in blood. Seeing it was infected, she took some alcohol to clean the wounds and after she had done that she cleaned it with water.

"You're still mad at me." Robb said as he looked at her.

"You've got worse things to worry about." Elena said as she ran a cloth over his wounds, not daring to look up at him.

"You really think we could win this war?" Robb changed the subject with a sigh.

"Seeing I just murdered more than 6 000 men with one move, I think we will be fine." Elena said. She didn't notice that she was rubbing the cloth harder over Robb's skin in anger. He did though.

"You saved us, Elena." He took her wrist in his hand to stop her.

"I didn't save them though." She looked up at him without any emotion shown on her face. Nevertheless Robb knew she was broken inside, he could see it in her eyes.

"They weren't yours to save." Robb whispered.

"Were they not? They didn't have anyone to protect them Robb, I'm the last guardian, remember?! Doesn't that mean I have to protect everyone and not only one stupid King who doesn't even give a shit about me?!" Elena yelled, her frustration finally showing. She had been hiding it for so long for she didn't want to give Robb any more trouble.

"You know I do care about you Elena!" Robb yelled back, looking deep into her eyes so that maybe, just maybe she would finally understand.

"Then why did you leave me? Why did you bury me like an old dog you didn't want anymore? Why did you just forget about me in a matter of months to marry another and leave me to rot in a grave?" Tears welled up in Elena's eyes. Robb looked away, he didn't know what to say.

"When I woke up all I could see was darkness, all I could feel was cold stone and all I could smell was death." Elena sobbed angrily, wiping away the tears that had began to fall and bowed her head. "When I finally succeeded to get out of the grave you buried me in, I saw Winterfell. It was burning, everything was already destroyed.

At that point I didn't know what had happened or for how long I had been asleep. I yelled your name, your father's name, everyone I called but no one responded. Everyone was gone." Elena sobbed, still looking at the ground. Robb sat up a little and looked at her.

"Thoughts came into my head, first I though that maybe some stupid accident in the armory happened causing everyone to flee to the next village. When I came there though, no one I knew was there." Elena looked back up at Robb, the tears stopped streaming down her face. It was odd but in some way it made her feel better to tell him this.

"So then the bad thoughts came into my mind. You might've been betrayed by the Lannisters, maybe Robert Baratheon hated us after all. Or maybe the dragons came back and destroyed everything and everyone in their path. Maybe the Dark One had done this or who knew what things popped into my mind." Elena shook her head.

"I asked one of the vilagers if they knew where you were. He said that you were at a wedding, in the Twins. As relieved as I was I immediatelly flew there to tell you I was awake again. I couldn't have been any happier. But then I arrived..." Elena closed her eyes.

"The moment I arrived I knew something was wrong. So I battled my way towards the great hall, knowing you were there. When I opened the gates, well, my heart stopped." Elena diverted her eyes from Robb, she couldn't stand the look in his eyes anymore. She saw only sadness and symphathy in them.

"First I saw mother, holding one of Frey's daughters and I knew I was too late. So I searched for you, hoping you were still alive. There you were, only you were on the ground with three arrows peirced through your chest, holding a woman in your arms I did not know." Elena looked back up at Robb.

"The moment I saw your face was the moment I broke down completelly. The complete desperation, the hopelessnes on your face was too much for me to bear. Not only because it was about another woman, no." Elena chuckled without any hint of humor. "The worst part was that I could do nothing to protect you from it." Now Robb diverted his eyes away from Elena. He tried to conceal his grief, it wasn't that hard anymore. It was like he had used all his tears so he couldn't cry anymore.

"Well you know what hapenned after that." Elena sighed, her frustration gone as she softly wiped the dry blood away from Robb's chest with the already red cloth. Yet Elena felt even more broken than before. She wrapped some bandages around his chest again until he spoke up.

"We couldn't have survived without you, Elena. The Northern army is more than grateful, they told me after the battle. You're their savior. " Robb whispered as he softly placed his hand on Elena's cheek. "To me your much more than that, you know that, right?"

Elena looked down, trying to avoid Robb's gaze. She couldn't stop the tears from falling down her face. Robb sighed but then took her in his arms and wrapped her tight against him. He placed his chin on top of her head as she buried her face in his chest. They sat there for a while, holding each other close without saying a word.

All Robb could think was:

Why can't we just stay like this forever?
