Battle of life and death -part 2: Jaime's demise

"Having any second thoughts yet?" Damon looked at Jaime's back as they were navigating through the tunnels beneath the Red Keep.

"Of course I am." Jaime didn't even pretend, something Elena knew he wouldn't do. "Not only am I betraying my family, I'm also betraying my honor."

"As if you ever had any honor left." Damon growled, looking around himself to find anything that he'd recognize in the dark and moisty tunnels.

Jaime stopped in his tracks and slowly turned towards Damon, his eyes narrowing to slits. "What could you possibly know about my honor?"

"Jaime." Elena sighed, knowing this was bad news. "We don't have time for this." She continued when Jaime and Damon kept on glaring at each other. "And Damon, if you don't shut up I will freeze you to the ground."

Damon scoffed but Jaime chuckled, turning back around to continue his path to the surface.

"How can you possibly trust him?" Damon's voice rang through Elena's head.

"Believe it or not, he's not as bad as people make them up to be. He's got a bad reputation, sure, but he is a good man. He's just misunderstood."

"Misunderstood." Elena heard Damon scoff behind her.

"So why exactly are you betraying everything you know?" Sam spoke up after some time.

"Because last time a king or queen sat on that throne who'd happily burn everyone to kill a few of his or her enemies, it didn't end that well." Jaime explained. Finally there was a light at the end of the tunnel, quite literally. Jaime unlocked the gate and entered one of the halls of the keep.

"Still don't trust him."

"You might want to take the stairs to the left." Jaime turned towards Damon and Liane since they were going to search for Ethan.

"How do I know you're not sending us right into a trap?" Damon questioned, making Elena roll her eyes.

"Because I want Ethan dead just as much as you do." Jaime answered truthfully.

"You're wrong." Damon said as he turned to the left, descending from the stairs. "I don't want my brother dead." He turned to face Jaime again at the end of the staircase. "I just want to protect him from the darkness inside of him."

Jaime nodded and Damon left with Liane, running towards the courtyard where they'd open the gate for Robb and after that, distract Ethan so the battle may be fair.

"Follow me." Jaime took the stairs to the right which led to one of the towers. "My sister is keeping your children in the highest tower." He said as he climbed the stairs. "They're probably guarded by Glegaine-"

Elena didn't hear the rest of it for she was distracted by the view. They were already more than 40 feet above ground which granted her the overall view of the city.

"The spell worked." She muttered as she watched the light blue ghosts from afar. The lower city was glowing from them for they hadn't breached the inner gates yet.

"Is this you?" Sam asked as he caught a few snowflakes in his hand. Since it was night you couldn't see the dark clouds that were hanging in the sky nor the snow storm that was coming. But it was there and for the first time in forever King's Landing was covered in snow.

"I guess so." Elena mumbled, looking down at her arms that were wholly frozen. She then tried to see where Robb was but through the dense storm and the darkness of the night she could only see the eerie glow of the ghosts that were crowding the city.

When Jaime discovered they weren't following him anymore, he took a few steps back till he was back in sight. "Are you coming?"

~

"Robb!!" Steven yelled trough the noise of the battle. They were in one if the outskirts of the city, only having breached the first gate. To reach the keep they needed to take down 2 other gates, one which will hopefully be taken care of by Damon and Liane.

"What is it?" Robb looked at Steven from on top of his horse, towering over everybody else. He couldn't really follow what was happening all around him, there were so many ghosts that crowded the city that he could barely see.

Other than that he still needed to process the fact that Gillian was there right next to him, fighting with his daggers while Aidan was controlling the weather. They were all back. At least, for the time being.

"There's a legion near the sept of Bealor, they're going to breach our perimeters." Steven said while swaying his sword around skillfully, killing 3 Lannisters with one blow. "We need to send reinforcements."

"Right." Robb sighed while pushing another soldier away and stabbing him in the chest. "Northerners, with me!" He yelled. "Gillian, you lead the Mormont's and the Knights of the Vale towards the southern gate and make sure it is open when we return." He ordered, looking at Gillian's light blue form.

"You got it."

"Jon!" He yelled and then saw his brother a few yards away from him. "Take command, I'm needed at the sept!" Robb then turned his mount towards the sept, spurring it into gallop till he was riding over the numerous dead bodies that were already covering the floor. Even though they had a whole army of the dead, they were still in disadvantage. The Lannisters had already figured out how to defeat them: fire. It was burning all around them but Robb feared that there was worse to come.

Robb led the attack by the sept, defending the rumble of stone from the Lannisters. It was the center of the city and thus a strategic place to have control over but it was hard to defend since it was blown to pieces. When his horse was killed and Robb was floored, he looked around himself desperately.

"What have I done?" He muttered while blood was dripping from his sword. There were countless bodies covering the floor, screams filling the entire streets and women running around in fear with their children.

Robb fell to the ground after being struck in the leg, feeling like the entire fight was hopeless. "Forgive me, father." He whispered as he closed his eyes. He knew that this was the place where his father died. He took in a deep breath as he grasped his sword again tightly, standing up and fighting whoever dared to come near him.

"For I have led the entire north into death."

~

"We're here." Jaime stated when they reached the top of the tower.

"Right." Sam stepped back a few stairs. "I guess I'll just wait here then. Make sure nobody comes from this end." He offered while walking even further away.

"Just be careful." Elena smiled at him and then turned towards Jaime. He looked back at Elena for permission to open the door which she granted by nodding her head.

When it was opened, Elena burst through the door with an arrow already nocked on her bow, pointing it to every corner till she found her target. She narrowed her eyes to slits, her heart skipping a beat. "Jaime, you told me she wouldn't be here."

"Cersei?" His eyes widened. He dropped his sword to the ground and seemed paralyzed to the bone, not even blinking for a whole minute.

"Traitor!" Cersei hissed at him while holding a knife against Lyanna's throat and a hand on Gillian Eddard's shoulder.

"Mother!" Gillian tried to run towards her but was held back by Cersei, almost falling to the ground when she yanked him back.

"Let them go and I might consider letting you live." Elena narrowed her eyes further while keeping the point of the arrow pointed at Cersei. She didn't notice that there was a circle of ice forming around her feet and that it was expanding at a fast rate.

"It's funny, isn't it?" Cersei laughed humorously. "A mother's love. We always try to keep our children safe, always give everything to make them smile but in the end they use our love against us." She hissed while a few tears slit down her cheek, holding the knife even tighter around Lyanna's neck. "How is that fair?!"

"Tommen's, Myrcella's and Joffrey's deaths aren't on them, Cersei!" Jaime intervened. "How are you different from them when you murder innocent children?!"

"How could you?!" Cersei yelled at Jaime. "How could you betray me, after everything we've been through, after everything we've lost?!"

"You betrayed me when you blew up the Sept!"

"You let them go, now." Elena growled, stepping closer. "Or I'll make sure it is your head that will be mounted on a spike next morning."

Cersei laughed, pushing Gillian on the floor so she could use her other hand to hold Lyanna's head back to reach her neck better. "Cersei, no!" Jaime sprinted forward.

"I'm afraid it's too late for that." Cersei nodded at something or someone behind Elena and then slit Lyanna's throat in one swift movement.

"Noo!!" Elena yelled, diving forward. Before she could move though she felt something heavy collide with the side of her head, her vision becoming blurry and her body limp as she fell to the ground. When she hit the cold hard floor she could see the body of her child dissolve into a green mist.

"What?" She muttered as Gillian's body also vanished and turned into a green, thick mist that dissolved quickly. Before she could process what had happened though she was lifted from the ground by one large hand and thrown against the wall with an unbelievable amount of power.

"How could you?!" Elena heard Cersei scream. She saw Jaime's boots coming closer to hers as she was laying on the ground, recovering from the blow. Then a much larger foot suddenly appeared before her again and later the same large hand lifted her up by the neck and pushed her against the wall.

"Let her go!" Jaime yelled at the abomination but it didn't react, only held Elena up while blocking her airway. He grasped his sword again from the floor, running towards Elena.

"I'm sorry." Cersei whispered as she grasped Jaime's shoulder with one hand and turned him around while the other held the dagger which she plunged into his chest.

"Wha-what?" Jaime stuttered, looking down at the dagger and then back at his sister.

"You gave me no other choice." Cersei said as she kept Jaime on his feet, tears forming in her eyes while blood started to cover her hands. "You chose for her instead of me."

Jaime fell to the ground while Cersei held him, cradling his dying body in her arms. "I'm sorry." She cried, laying her head on his chest, her arms tightening around his body to keep him close and her hand running through his golden locks.

"Jai-me." Elena tried to speak but she was still being held by Glegaine. His dead eyes continued to stare her down, his decayed fingers closed around her neck. She tried to kick him but it seemed to feel no pain or anything else for that matter. "Damon." She closed her eyes. "They're not in the tower"

"I'm out."

~

"Exactly how many of those bomb things do you have?" Damon looked around the courtyard, keeping watch as Liane put all the explosives near the gate.

"I made around 22." Liane answered. "I had little time, just an hour before we had to go. They'll have to do."

"22?!" Damon's eyes widened. "Given their strength I believe 3 would've been enough for a whole army."

"Yeah, well, can't be too sure, can we?" Liane rubbed the dust off his clothes as he stood up, appreciating the work he'd done. He turned towards Damon, smiling proudly. "Damon?" His smile dropped immediately when he saw the expression on his face. "What's wrong?"

"Someone's watching." Damon whispered, his hand already tightened around his sword and his great dark wings already unwrapped behind his back. "If it wasn't for the damned snow storm maybe I would've known who."

"Yeah, well, that person might have to wait because I'm going to blow up this thing. So I'm asking you to please light them on fire with your powers." Liane hobbled on his two feet, nervous due to the sound of war a few miles away. He was never one to fight.

Damon squinted his eyes, drawing his sword slowly as he stepped forward into the mist. "Damon?" Liane chuckled nervously. "Now might be a good time to hurry up and get the hell out of here."

"Get out of here?" A deep voice echoed through the courtyard.

"Fucking hell." Damon cursed, lighting his hands on fire immediately.

"I'm sorry to inform you that getting out," Ethan gracefully landed on one foot and one knee right before the two with his enormous wings stretched out on either side of him. He slowly got up, black mist surrounding him as he smiled dangerously. "won't be an option tonight."

"Ethan." Damon growled.

"Have you missed me, dear brother?"

Hellooo there little guardians!

Considering the current events I'd like to say something about the outcome of the elections of America. It doesn't matter that Trump is president now (for some things it's highly important and very dangerous, especially for the nuclear codes etc. but I'm talking about America as a nation or rather the people in it) because in the end it's the people who live in it that make a country a nation. Because no one can stop you from being a kind, generous and loving person. No matter who won we will be okay because we'll remember who we really are instead of who's leading the country.

All things aside, I just wanted to cheer some of you up by posting a new chapter but then remembered that this chapter is more likely to make you cry than make you laugh. So, sorry about that xd

Anyway, thank all of you for all your endless support and see you next chapter! 
