Your Efforts Are Pointless

Summary~ Gwaine was one for Love. Everyone knew that, so when he notices Arthur and Merlin dancing around each other obviously in love. He makes it his mission to get them together.

Gwaine was now officially a knight of Camelot running under the rule of King Arthur, a princess in his own view. Something he knew was love. He was constantly around it and knew how to woo a lady at any given time that he wanted. Some called him a lady's man. Even if he won't admit it he secretly loved being called that. In his defense, the women needed some laughter and happiness every once in a while. So when he started hanging around Merlin and Arthur more and more. He noticed that they were both in love with each other. There was no denying it. It was something that anyone can tell. Well besides the two that was in love.

So when he figured this out he made it his mission to get them both to admit there love for each other. In order for his plan to work, he was going to need the help of the other knights.

"This plan was foolproof!" thought Gwaine as he set everything up at the place that Leon and Percival were supposed to bring Merlin and Arthur to. It was a beautiful meadow that sat behind the castle. Flowers of all colors littering the bright green grass. Thick willow trees hung white flowers draping over the grass. Creating shade making it the perfect space to set up a picnic. He got Leon to somehow lie to Arthur telling him that Gwen had wanted to surprise him with a picnic in the small clearing outside of the castle. How he managed to get the most loyal knight to lie to the king was beyond him. Maybe it was him saying that he was tired of them dancing around each other. He didn't know but he also managed to get Percival to bring Merlin as well.

~~Line Break To Arthur and Leon~~

Arthur was getting annoyed with all the paperwork he has to do as king. He thought the paperwork was bad for a prince. He was wrong paperwork as a king was much worse. Treaties from neighboring kingdoms, problems in villages that were in other kingdoms that were asking for help, Gwaine's tab from all the Taverns in Camelot were all taking up most of his day. On top of that, he had to train with the Knights at least every other day. Council meetings also took up his time as well making him go to sleep in the late hours of the night. He sighed as he placed his quill down on the stand and rub his cramping hand. A knock on at the heavy wooden door knocked him out of his trance.

"Enter" He yelled loud enough for the person on the other side to be able to hear him. To his surprise, Leon walked in through the door.

"What can I do for you Leon? Everything alright?" He asked as he looked at him with great concern in his eyes. Leon was not one to just pop in unannounced without a reason.

"Madam Gwen wishes to see you in the small clearing about a mile away from the castle. I have already prepared a horse and supplies for you." Leon said after bowing. His dirty blonde hair bouncing as he lifted his head. Arthur nodded before asking if there was anything else that he needed to know. Leon shocked his head before excusing himself from the chambers. He was one that couldn't lie due to always being loyal. So him doing this made him uneasy.

~~Line Break To Merlin and Percival~~

Merlin was sitting on the bench as he took the scrub brush to Arthur's armor once again polishing it until it shined in the light of the candles. It was his last chore that Arthur gave to him for the day. After mucking out the stables, cleaning his majesty's chambers, gathering his laundry, and now polishing his armor until he was able to see his reflection left him exhausted and wanting some much-needed rest that he hasn't been able to receive in the last week. Arthur was now on edge due to some neighboring kingdom sending some of the knights and princes to Camelot so they were able to discuss treaties with everyone. Which in return made him so on edge he gain a temper, due to stress, that he took out on Merlin. Giving him extra chores and throwing more and more at him. Merlin sighed as he stopped for a second and twisting around trying to make his back hurt a little less before continuing on with what he was doing.

As he was continuing with his work the wooden door opened to the quietest knight, Percival, walking in with a look of some confusion on his face. He stopped a few feet in the door and looked around as though he was looking for something. He smiled as he spotted Merlin in his poor excuse of a comfortable position he was currently in.

"Ah Merlin, Arthur is wanting to go on a hunt and request you to meet him in the clearing about a mile away," Percival said as he placed his sword down slowly taking his armor that was no longer required on the bench. He was off duty for the day and was going to go to the tavern after getting Merlin to fall for the trap the knights were playing. Merlin looked at him weirdly.

"Why didn't Arthur come and tell me? Better yet, why doesn't he want me to get his horse ready?" Merlin said as he placed his brush down on the bench next to him as he finished his work he was currently doing.

"Leon had already had a horse for Arthur to use. He wanted to get a little ways away so he was able to hunt without you having to scare all the animals away and come home with a least a rabbit instead of nothing" he said as he continued taking his armor off. Merlin nodded before standing up stretching before walking out the door to get the clearing as fast as he can so he can ruin the chances of Arthur getting any poor unfortunate animal just for fun.

~~Line Break~~

As Merlin got to the clearing he noticed Arthur wasn't actually hunting instead he was sitting on a nice quilted blanket with food surrounding him. He was graciously eating his grapes he was eating while he seemed to be waiting for someone.

Merlin sighed as he stepped into the clearing walking over to Arthur laying on his back with his head in the king's lap. He laid his arms on his chest. Sighing as he looked up into beautiful light sky blue eyes that started kindly back at him.

"This is another one of Gwaines tricks into admiring we love each other isn't it?" Merlin asked as he accepted a grape from Arthur.

"It would seem that way. He even managed to get Percival and Leon in this." Arthur said as he continues munched on grapes.

"Well, his attempts are still pointless seeing as we have been together for two years now. Pass me the bread. Mind as well eat the food they set up anyways." Merlin said as he finished the grapes he had wanted to eat something different
