Chapter 24

OLIVIA DID SEEM as a nice girl so after meeting her, we started hanging out becoming good friends.

I laughed holding the rest of my popcorn. We were just walking out of the movie theatre and Olivia was mimicking the hopeless man in love from the movie.

"Okay, okay. That was a good one" I grinned, wiping out the fallen tears of laughter from under my eyes.

Olivia grinned "Oh, I know. I always liked mimicking others" she confessed, looking at me "Not friends, though. That is a low blow"

I smiled slightly, walking along her down the street. "Aww, you're a great friend"

"I know" Olivia said smirking, "So, how the change from schools is going? You never told me the whole story as of why you moved here"

I side glanced at her, guilty for lying but it was for everyone's sake. "Cause mom thought I was being a rebel having authority issues so she decided it was a good idea to send me with my cousins here in San Francisco to see if I'll behave if I'm not with my 'troublesome friends' anymore"

Olivia made a face, "Wow. Not offense but that sucks" I shrugged, not wanting to talk more cause the guilt was hitting me hard "Anyway. Let's talk about something else...."

And that we did, all the way to one hour we talked about trivial things, making me like her more.

After we said our goodbyes, I made sure she was already out of my sight so I could walk toward an isolated place. I looked around me, making sure no one was watching and taking a deep breath concentrating until I felt myself orbing out of there on toward the house where I landed on the bathroom almost falling

I huffed, knowing I needed more practice "Patience, Kass. Patience" I murmured walking out of the bathroom and toward my room

Next morning, a crash downstairs was the thing that woke me up.

I ran all the day down the stairs, still wearing my PJs and stopped outside the conservatory seeing Leo and a man wearing a beige cloak on the floor.

The table was broken and I realized it was that the thing waking me up.

I crossed my arms as they got up.

Piper and Paige were already there, also seeming annoyed

"Leo, what happened?" Piper asked "We heard a crash"

I looked at the stranger carefully blinking at his peaceful blue aura coming from him knowing he was someone we could trust making my muscles relax immediately

"He missed" The stranger told her

"Uh, who's the critic?" Piper asked, looking at the stranger

"This is Ramus, he's an Elder" Leo answered

I frowned curiously

The Elder looked at me curiously trying to figure me out.

I crossed my arms defiantly, raising an eyebrow at him

"An Elder?" Piper asked "Really?"
"I thought you told us he wasn't coming til tonight?" Paige asked

"Told us?" Piper repeated "Nobody told me anything. Leo?" Piper looked at her husband, frowning

"Well, we didn't want you to worry about demonic threats until it was absolutely necessary" Leo told her

"What threats?" Piper asked

"Well, I suppose this will have to do" Ramus said walking across the room

"Okay, uh, what are you two up to?" Piper asked crossing her arms

I looked at them curiously, not knowing either because I was with Olivia

"It was Phoebe's idea" Paige told her

"Uh, we were just trying to make things a little easier, that's all, relieve some stress" Leo told her

"Well, stop it, 'cause it's pissing me off. I'm pregnant not terminal" Piper said. I laughed slightly at that "So what, what is he doing here?"

"Uh, Ramus is retiring" Leo told her "He came down to pass on his powers to a new Elder"

"So...?" I asked curiously

"So?" Leo repeated "There isn't a demon alive who wouldn't love to have his powers. So the Elders want you to protect him in case there's an attack"

"Why can't he just orb out?" Paige asked

"Because my powers are mental, young lady, not physical" Ramus said walking to the living room again "You'd think a charge of yours would know something as basic as that"

I raised my eyebrows at him

Ramus walked around the room

"Nothing wrong with his hearing" Paige said

I shook my head, sarcastically "No, just his attitude"

"Kass!" Leo scolded me

"What?" I asked innocently

"A little respect" Leo told me

"I would if he was respectful too" I replied, raising my eyebrows.

"Ugh, for crying out loud" Piper exclaimed, throwing her arms up "So who is this new Elder and when does he get here?"

"We don't know who he is" Ramus quipped, looking at us "All I know is that the transfer must take place during tonight's equinox or else I will lose my powers forever"

"So we're just supposed to sit around here and wait?" I asked, skeptically

"Yes. Unfortunately" he told me eying us in annoyance

I returned the gesture

So the Elder had annoyed me and I decided not to be around the house when he was there so here I was, out again with Olivia.

We were on the public library reading books. I was excited to learn Olivia loved reading. It was like I found another person to join my book club.

Olivia was reading an action book and I had a book of Science Fiction, both of us sitting comfortably on the puffy couches of the reading section

After an hour of reading, Olivia looked up chuckling "Well, I can't say I hate the sequel"

I raised a brow, "You told me you hated the end of the first book"

Olivia waved her hand dismissively "Yeah, but you know what they say, 'don't judge a book by its cover"

I chuckled amused "Yeah, I know, but you were judging the second book by the end of the first, isn't the same?"

"Well, you have a point there. But I'm never judging a second book because of the end of the first, ever again"

"What if the first book is bad but the sequel is amazing?" I asked raising my brows amused

Olivia looked thoughtful before she shrugged "I guess I would never know"

I chuckled, smiling "Why?"

"Because I wouldn't have read the first" she told me pointedly

We laughed slightly at her words.

My smile dropping in confusion as a voice rang in my head

Kass!

I looked around, furrowing my eyebrows "Did you say anything?" I asked looking back at Olivia

Olivia looked at me confused "No, we were only laughing. Are you okay?" She asked, concerned

I shook my head, smiling reassuringly "Yeah, all good. Let's keep reading" I told her, looking down at my book.

Olivia nodded frowning as she looked down at her own.

I looked up startled when another voice rang in my head, this time I could tell it sounded like Phoebe's

Kassandra, I know you can hear me. It's part of your Whitelighter's side. Come home we need you

Olivia looked up seeing my reaction in worry "Kass?"

"Hm?" I asked distractedly, still startled of hearing Phoebe's voice on my head "No, yeah... I'm good, um, I have to go" she raised an eyebrow not convinced, I looked at my watch "One of my cousins is pregnant and I told her I would do something for her and it's getting late"

Olivia frowned unconvinced tilting her head aside "Doesn't she have two sisters?"

"Yes, but one of them is working and the other is... Well, busy" I shuddered thinking of Paige doing ... Wherever she does with her new 'boyfriend'. "If you know what I mean"

"Ah..." She nodded awkwardly "Okay, see you later or tomorrow" she gave me a smile

I returned it "Bye"
