Chapter 21
APPARENTLY, being a badass Guardian doesn't exonerates me from going to school. At the contrary it made it an obligation for two things: One, I was still a minor and I needed education and two because it'll give me an alibi and a cover for and if something went wrong.
Paige had kindly paid my school items and Phoebe with my inscription to the High School the three sisters attended to when they were younger. My cover was being their younger cousin from their father's side; (Sister, explaining the different last name) and I was sent to live with them because I had some authoritative issues that needed correction and the Halliwell's were my mom's first option.
Today was the first day and I wasn't really that excited because being the new kid and all sucked. I had already introduced myself in three clases and it was the most awkward thing I've ever done. To say I was annoyed it was an understatement.
I was glad it was finally lunch time. I stepped inside the cafeteria, my green eyes flickering to each table easily spotting the cliche student groups there's always on a school I read in books, the cheerleaders, the jocks, the nerds, the drama club, the junkies, the Emos.
I sighed knowing immediately I didn't belong in either of those groups so I sat down on the corner of the cafeteria, trying to relax my muscles. It was weird, finally being out of a house that held so much power and somewhere that didn't hold any. I had thought it was going to be more simple but turned out I felt more in edge, as if something was going to attack me in plain sight but thankfully nothing happened.
I started picking on my salad when giggling caught my attention. I looked up, raising a brow seeing a crowd near a TV and being the curious person I was, I found myself dropping the salad (with awful taste, by the way) to the trash can, turning to the TV and crossing my arms as I watched the reportage along the other girls.
My eyes widened in disbelief seeing a familiar man walking out of a burning building with a woman in his arms, saving her life.
My mouth dropped open in disbelief, noticing every girl and even guy in the cafeteria praising the demon man, Cole doing samaritan work.
"Yeh, freaking awesome" A sarcastic clap came from behind me, "It's not like other men have done the same before" some girls rolled their eyes with a scowl, scoffing. I looked over my shoulder finding a redhead girl with mischievous grey eyes staring at the TV with a smirk in her glossed lips. "But girls are stupid to be lovestruck with him, he'll never give attention to them" she scoffed watching the dreamy girls gagging at the TV. I chuckled. She looked at me, noticing me in front of her "You're new"
"I'm Kassandra" I shrugged, a small smile playing on my lips
"Olivia" She smirked, shaking my hand seeming to check me out "You look interesting, specially since you don't seem to like the cute TV heroes" she said, pointing at the TV with a sarcastic smile.
I glanced at the TV, grimacing before shaking my head 'no' "It's not that. It's just him. I know he's not as good as he makes everyone to believe"
Olivia gasped, amused "Nooo. You know him. Come on, tell me the dirty news" she chuckled, grasping my arm in excitement
I huffed, brushing a strand of hair behind my ear, "He's my cousin's ex-husband" I replied, glancing at the TV "And I know he's a piece of... well, he's evil" I said frowning.
Olivia stayed silent for a few seconds. "Yeah, I get it. Cousin code and all that" she nodded, seriously
I chuckled softly "Yeah, something like that"
The bell rang making us groan in synchrony
"Physics" Olivia said sighing
"Math" I mimicked sighing.
We exchanged a look, frowning before bursting out in a laugh
Olivia shook her head, starting to walk away"Okay, Kass, see you later" She stopped and looked back at me "You don't mind if I call you Kass, right?"
"No if I can call you Liv" I replied smiling.
Olivia smiled, shrugging "I don't mind"
I sighed smiling a small smile, after all my first day went well.

After school, I walked inside the manor, my muscles oddly relaxing at the feeling of magic the house gave making me furrow my eyebrows.
I shook my head, stopping abruptly on the doorframe to the living room, seeing the woman from the news Cole saved laying down on the couch as Leo stood by her side, healing her
"What the hell?" I asked dropping my school bag.
Leo looked up, sending me a small smile "Hello, Kassandra"
I threw my hands up in a 'what?' expression, confused as Paige and Piper orbed to the room
Piper immediately freezing the woman
"Well, at least that power still works" Paige chirped casually, looking at her sister
I pointed at all of them, confused
"Are you alright?" Leo asked, looking at Piper in concern "What happened?"
"Before or after you were making out with the demon?" Piper asked, angrily
"Wait, what?" I asked startled but I was ignored. "What happened? Who is she?" I pointed at the blonde
Paige grabbed my hand, smiling slightly "I'll explain to you while we go get the book" she said while dragging me out of the living room, probably to not witness the incoming fight.
I noticed it was a common action the three sisters shared.
Don't get involved in my sisters fight with their significant other.
Got it.

While we stayed out of Piper and Leo's conversation, Paige told me about the woman Cole saved being a future whitelighter named Melissa. Now, Leo was trying to heal her at the hospital where a demon showed up so she could kill her but instead of doing that, she kissed Leo and they both had witnessed that and Piper had tried to kill the demon but oddly her powers aren't working very well apparently thanks to her unborn baby.
"Wow" I said speechless once she finished.
Paige nodded grimacing, closing up the Book of Shadows after we found the demon, "Yup, now come on. Let's go tell the others what we found"
I nodded and we walked out of the attic, leaving

I followed Paige to the living room with me carrying the Book of Shadows
"I think we found the demon" Paige said loudly and then looked between the couple, sensing the thick tension between them. I shifted awkwardly "Am I interrupting something?"
"Yes" Piper replied bluntly. "What does the book say?"
"Well...." I began, glancing at Paige who gave me a nod "As a mortal the Siren fell in love with a married man but when they were caught the man was held blameless"
"Typical" Piper rolled her eyes
"The village women cheered as they burned her to death and her rage turned her into a Siren, a vengeful demon who seduces married men with her song" Paige continued, "Then destroys the couples with the very flame that consumed her"
"Lovely" Piper said sarcastically
"Nothing we can't handle with a good potion" Paige told her
"I wouldn't be so sure" Leo said looking between the sisters "You didn't feel her power"
"Looked to me like you felt a little bit more than her power" Piper told him, scowling
"Yeah, right, like I really wanted to" Leo told her frowning
"Yeah, well, if you were home instead..." Piper trailed off
"What? What am I supposed to do?" Leo interrupted "Abandon my charges? Clip my wings?"
Paige and I stayed silent, looking between them like a tenis match
"I expect you to care, and notice, and ask what's going on with me" Piper exclaimed "I expect you to make me a priority and not just when demons are involved"
Suddenly, orbing light appeared out of Piper and Leo's backs
"Uh, Piper, Leo?" Paige spoke, trying to get their attention but she got ignored
"Look, it's not like I'm out golfing or screwing around" Leo told Piper. I watched the orbing lights become bigger with each passing second "I'm working and my work is very important"
"I'm not saying that it isn't" Piper told him
"Then what are you saying?" Leo asked her
"You guys?" I spoke, also tried to get their attention
"Forget it" Piper told him "You don't understand"
"I don't understand?" Leo repeated, "You don't understand"
"Well, I understand that your charges are more important than your family" Piper snapped
I sighed in frustration, massaging my forehead, "This won't end well" I mumbled to myself
Paige nodded silently, in agreement
"You have no idea what I go through every day" Leo exclaimed
"Yeah, well, you have no clue what I go through every day" Piper shot back
The two orbing lights now bigger, hit Piper and Leo and knock them to the floor
"Ooh, that can't have been good" Paige told them grimacing
"What happened?" Leo asked as he and Piper stood up
"Well, we tried to tell you guys" I said sheepishly, shrugging "Orbs were swirling and..."
Suddenly, Melissa now unfreeze stood up frightened, "Where, where am I?"
I looked at her alarmed.
"Freeze her again" Leo turned to Piper
Piper did as told, but instead of freezing her she orbed out and back making my eyes widen in disbelief "Whoa"
Melissa gasped in fright, running toward the door "What just happened here?"
"Melissa, wait!" Leo called for her, reaching his hand to her but accidentally blowed up the glass on the door
I stood there gaping in shock as I looked between Piper and Leo
"Oh my god!" Melissa shouted scared
"Hey!" Piper exclaimed, looking at Leo frowning "That's my power!"
Melissa used that moment of distraction to open the door and run away, passing by Phoebe who happened just to be entering the house
Phoebe frowned, looking at us "Okay, why do I have the feeling my day's about to get worse?"
"Uh, because I think it will" I replied awkwardly, rocking on my heels innocently
