Chapter Three
I pulled out of Peter's arms and looked at him. "How are you going to help me when you didn't even help me now?"
"Um...well...you see..."
"Whatever," I exclaimed, "Oh and that reminds of a question that has been nagging me since we met."
"What is it?" Peter said obviously happy that I changed the subject.
"Why did you use a bow and arrow instead of the gun when you were confronting my dad?"
"Oh that's easy, I used the bow and arrow because that's the fastest way to kill a lagooner."
"Then how come I was able to kill him with the sword, and when you used the bow and arrow it didn't kill him?
"Hmm, that's a good question, but I don't think I have an answer for that. It should have killed him as soon as the arrow hit him."
"Oh okay, well why were you so calm?"
"I've been training to kill people like your dad since I was five, but I made my first kill when I was eighteen so as to be able to complete training."
"Oh okay," I giggled. We sat there in silence for a while and a new thought started bubbling in my head. "Peter?"
"What is it, Katie?"
"Am I half lagooner?"
Without looking me in the eyes Peter answered me, "Yes."
"Is that why I was able to kill my father and the ladybug monster?"
"Yes and no. You are half lagooner and half guardian. Like a lagooner, you will be a bit aggressive, have that never gonna give up attitude, and be a bit possessive of what is yours. The guardian half will make you an expert fighter when the time comes as it just did right now.
"Wow, but why would my mother be with a lagooner?"
"We have a suspicion that your father forced her to be with him and that she probably told him she was leaving and that's why he killed her."
"Why did you say we?"
"Well I'm not the only guardian in the world, there are lots of guardians all over the universe but this planet is our home planet."
"Wait, if I'm a half guardian, then why do I need you? No offense."
"Well, I'm your mentor. Pretty much I will help you train."
"Oh okay, well how does this guardian thing work? How am I a guardian and a lagooner?
"It might be better to talk about that another time because it is quite a complicated situation."
"Well this has been a very long, action pact day and I don't think I can deal with all this."
"Well, this would've happened to you sooner or later. Even if you hadn't come here."
"I would rather have later." I joked to him.
"Well come on let's get back to my house so we can get cleaned up."
"Okay."
It seemed like a long walk back but it was more like ten minutes.
"Wow, have we've really been gone the whole day?" I asked Peter as we entered the front door.
"Yeah I know it doesn't seem like it huh?"
"No, it doesn't." "Um, Peter?"
"Yeah."
"I want to sleep in the recliner this time and I won't have you arguing with me about it."
Peter laughed and held his hands up in surrender, "Okay, okay you can sleep in the guest room if that makes you feel better."
"You have a guest room?"
"Yeah."
"Then why did you have me sleep in your room then?"
"Because I wanted to keep a close eye on you."
"I don't know how I feel about that answer. It sounds really creepy to me."
Peter looked shocked and nervous at the same time.
I stood there waiting for him to answer but Peter seemed to have lost his tongue.
"Um, I'll show you to the room," Peter stated obviously changing the subject.
He leads me down a hallway, and to a room that looked just like my room back on earth!
It had what looked like the same bed with the light blue quilt, that my mother had made for me when I was five, and the room was painted the same light blue color as my room was, not to mention the same pictures I had on my own wall back home.
There was only one thing going through my head and before I could stop myself I blurted out, "Stalker alert!"
"What?"
"Why does this room look just like mine?"
"It doesn't have the same quilt!" Peter stated trying to defend himself.
"I said nothing about it being the same, I want to know why it looks the same!" I stated now starting to freak out a bit.
"I just wanted you to be comfortable while you were here so I made the room look kinda like your old one," Peter answered in a low voice.
"Kinda! You got this room down to the T."
Peter didn't say anything, and he avoided looking me in the eyes.
"It looks nice though," I said trying to make him feel a bit better.
"Thanks." He replied smiling a bit.
"So did you have your girlfriend fix this room up for you?" I asked and then instantly regretted it.
"I don't have a girlfriend, Peter replied laughing a bit, I did this room myself."
"Oh okay," I said as I let out a big breath that I didn't know I was holding.
"Why do you want to know?"
There was the question I was hoping he wouldn't ask, "Oh because it looks so nice and I knew there was no way you could make something like this."
Peter looked shocked, "I could make a room look cool if I wanted to."
"Yeah right!" I replied. At that moment my stomach growled in hunger.
"Oh I forgot we didn't eat lunch," I said.
"Oh well, I can fix that we can go to a small place in town that sales the best hamburgers," Peter stated, "But after we take are showers."
"Alright."
I went into the guest room and closed the door behind me. I went into the bathroom, and not to my surprise, it looked just like mine.
I shrugged it off and that's when I noticed there was, what looked like a washing machine, in the bathroom as well.
I went over to it and saw that it was a washing machine. So I put my clothes in there and started the machine, and then took my shower.
Once I was done I went over to the machine and saw that it was done, and my clothes were dry as well.
If only earth had this.
Once I was all done, and dresses, I went out to the living room and I saw Peter sitting there.
Shoot he must have taken his shower at the same time as me. I wanted to look around, but I guess I won't be able to.
"Hey, you ready to go?" Peter asked once he saw me standing there.
"Yup! Are you?" I asked jokingly.
"I've been ready! Come on let's go."
I followed Peter outside and he locked the door.
"Is the burger place far?"
"No, it's only a block or two."
It wasn't a long walk but the scenery was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. There were vines with flowers on them on almost every building, and the flowers were different colors. There red, blue, pink, and yellow flowers and they seemed to be in a pattern.
Peter noticed me looking at them and said, "They're pretty aren't they?"
"Yeah they are, but how did they get them to be in a pattern?"
"A lot of flower power!" Peter joked.
We walked the rest of the way in silence, and once we got to the burger place we headed inside.
It was the coziest place I had ever seen. The booths looked warm and inviting, and the smell was so amazing that I was practically drooling.
Peter guided me to a booth and he ordered for us both.
"So... What do you think of my planet?"
"Are you seriously asking me that right now?"
"Um..."
"Do you know how much I've been through since I got here? Apparently, you don't if you an asking me a question like that."
"I, um..."
"Well, the answer to your question would be no! I don't like your planet because I've been through nothing but hell since I got here."
Peter cringed at my answer, and it looked as if he was going to say something but changed his mind because the waitress came with our food at that moment.
I thanked her once she set the plates down, but all she did was smile at Peter and put her hand on his shoulder and say "Hey Peter who's the new chick?"
I felt my insides jump with rage. Who was she to call me a chick, and why did she have her hand on Peter's shoulder? When I looked at Peter I saw that he wasn't even bothered by this, which only made me madder when he introduced me to Cal.
"Cal this is Katie, Katie Cal."
I put my hand out politely, but she ignored me and said: "Peter are we still on tonight?"
I glared at Peter, "What is she talking about?"
"Oh, he didn't tell you?" Cal asked.
I looked from Peter to Cal. "Tell me what?"
Cal rolled her eyes at me. "Peter and I have a date tonight."
I looked back at Peter waiting for an explanation but all he said was "Katie it's not what it sounds like."
I got up from the table my appetite gone. "I'm gonna leave."
"No, wait," Peter called after me but I was already gone.
Cal smirked at me as I walked passed her and I could hear Peter calling for me to wait but I kept going. As soon as I was outside I broke into a run, passing all sorts of things as I ran. Soon I came to a wooded area, and I tripped on a rock. I let myself fall and I started to cry. I never felt so alone before, and the only person I did know was lying to me.
Not long after I heard footsteps. I looked up and saw Peter coming towards me I quickly wiped my face and stood up.
"Katie are you okay?"
I ignored him and moved to walk past him but he grabbed me and forced me to look at him.
"What do you want Peter?"
"I want to explain what happened back there."
"You don't have to explain a thing to me, Peter, this is your life it's not my problem what you do with it."
Before I could say anything else Peter pulled me close to him and kissed me. I wasn't expecting it at all and it put me in shock. When I realized what was happening I pushed him away and took a step back. Peter looked surprised by it but I didn't care.
"Don't you ever touch me again!" I told him in between sobs. I stormed off and Peter followed.
"Katie waits, I'm sorry, wait!" Peter grabbed my arm and spun me around to face him and I kneed him.
"I said don't touch me!" I yelled at him.
Peter crouched down and then fell on his knees. He then grabbed my hand.
"Katie I love you, and only you, please don't walk away from me please listen to what I have to say!"
I looked down at him with hate in my eyes but my heart was starting to soften up.
"Fine!"
"Okay, the girl at the joint isn't my girlfriend she is just my friend."
"Then why would she do something like that?"
"Because she likes teasing all the girls who talk to me."
"Well, how do I know you're not just lying?"
"I wouldn't lie to you, Katie."
"Look Peter maybe this would work better if you just let me go back home and leave me alone."
"I can't."
"Why not?"
"Because I'm your guardian."
"So?"
Peter sighed and ran his free hand through his hair.
"Looks things have gotten a bit more complicated now."
"What do you mean?"
Peter looked as if he was going to say something but thought better of it. He then got off his knees and forced me into a hug. I fought for a bit and then just gave in, and before I knew it I was hugging him back and crying my head off.
"Well, it's getting dark so we should start getting home. Do you want to stay at a hotel or are you okay with coming back to the house?"
"I want to go home, Peter."
"If you really want to go home you can, but that means I have to go with you."
"Fine! I'll stay here with you."
"You'll stay?"
"Yeah, I'll stay."
"Okay then let's get going."
I followed Peter to his house. We got there faster than I thought we would, but before you knew it we were in front of his house, and Peter was putting the key in the lock.
"Come on."
Peter half carried half dragged me to my room, put me in bed, and tucked the covers in and left the room.
