Masquerade Ball

<<<<<< Cerebellim Anulasis >>>>>>

Also known as the "Amnesia spell", is used to erase the memories of people.

The image on the top is their house, I made a few changes though.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The squealing of tires brings me back from my daydreams. We reach home, finally.

We make our way towards the main entrance whilst Mr. Clark our servant attends to the luggage. The smell of roasted pot chicken hits my nose and I go around sniffing the air.

It looks like Mrs. Clark made her signature dish for us. Oh, how much I missed her food. Mrs. Clark is our chief chef. Anything she touches turns delicious. I follow the smell of the chicken and end up in the kitchen. I jump up in the air and exclaim when I see that they set the food ready to be served.

"No touching the food without changing your clothes," comes the stern warning from my mom.

"Oh, It's the roasted pot chicken. I'm famished!" My dad exclaims, ready to dig in.

"Oh no dear, not without getting cleaned."

"But it's THE roasted pot chicken, I'm having it this instant no matter what," he says and digs into the food.

This is why I love my Dad more. He is just like me or I'm more like him. I slowly sneak around my mom and join my dad at the table.

Helping myself to a plateful I eat and my mom mumbles something like 'Like father Like daughter' and ends up joining us at the table. After a scrumptious meal, we all head back towards our respective rooms.

I hop on the stairs with Ingrid a few steps ahead. We cross the first floor where my Dad's study, which was his home office and my Mom's workplace, are situated. The floor had French windows that overlooked our courtyard, and the view was splendid, especially in the evenings when you could watch the sun setting behind the woods. It was my mom's favorite place to have her evening tea.

We took a right and head on to the staircase leading to the second floor. I go over to the west wing, to my favorite place. I open the balcony doors and let the cool breeze fill my lungs. It feels incredible being here.

The cool air fanned my hair, and the moonlight shone on the forest roof. It looked so calm and it's serene here.

Ah, just how much I missed it.

"Back here again? " says Ingrid, creeping up from behind me. She drags along a chair and sits on it while stretching her legs on the balcony's railing.

"Yeah well, I missed this place."

"Oh god you are acting so emotional, is it your time of the month again?" she asks, giving me a questioned look.

"No. Is it wrong for a girl to love her home?" I ask, giving her a pointed glare.

"Well, no. By the way, mom is heading out. Something about the ball, I believe."

"This late?" I ask her, confused. My mom isn't someone who'd do things at the last minute. She always had them pre-planned.

"She is a grownup," Ingrid answers.

I give her a confused look. Since when did Ingrid talk like this?

"Her words, not mine ."

"OH!"

Well, better.

I am lost in my thoughts,  enjoying the cool breeze and the silence of the night, when Ingrid disturbs my peace again.

"What do you say let's go shopping tomorrow for a ball fit dress?" she asks. And by judging her face, it looks like she is already planning everything in her head.

"Don't we already have many?" I question her. We indeed have many dresses and I'd never understand why she wanted another one.

"An excuse for shopping is always supposed to be welcome," she says.

"Okay, Ingrid. But..."

"No buts, now go sleep we have a long day tomorrow," she says, clapping her hands together and skipping all the way back to her room.

" Mmm... Good night," I whisper.

The journey was exhausting, and I soon end up crashing on my bed. I don't know when I fell asleep, but I remember dreaming of my Prince Charming.

I get up the next day in the morning — er noon when I hear someone pounding on my door.

"Liliii, get up." I hear Ingrid yell from the other side of the door.

"Go away, Iddy."

"We are supposed to go shopping, get up."

Oh god, this woman shouts too much. With my dear sleep already departing, I get up.

I lazily brush my teeth, have a shower in a hurry because Ingrid is constantly shouting and not letting me in peace. I hastily wear my clothes, which is usually jeans and tees or the occasional summer dresses. It's jeans and a T-shirt from my favorite band One direction today.

I finally get out of my room to see that Ingrid is pacing out in front of my room.

"Took you long enough, now come let's have breakfast," she says dragging me.

Sometimes I wonder if she is even my sister.

"Where is mom?" I ask my dad, who is watching TV.

"Left early this morning, something about the ball I believe." He says, not taking his eyes off the Tv screen.

After a hurried breakfast, we leave for shopping.

"Bye, dad!" I yell while Ingrid dragged me out.

"Stay safe girls and come back soon," he shouts back.

We go to the town center where most of the malls are situated.

"Don't you think mom is acting a little strange? I mean she never leaves anything for the last minute but she went out late last night for the arrangements, seems weird to me," I say while casually strolling around in the mall, looking at the dresses put up by various stores.

"I know right, I felt the same. I mean yeah, she enjoys organizing balls and all, but she has been a little over the edge lately," Ingrid says while heading into a shop which has some beautiful gowns out for display.

I follow her in when a beautiful dress stacked behind caught my attention. I fall in love with it the minute I see it. It is a beautiful rich cremé dress which is a perfect mix of traditional and modern. It has an intricate net design on the top with a few stones and flowed down below my waist. I try it on and Ingrid literally screams when she sees me in it.

"Oh my god, my sister finally wore a dress," she says pretending to faint. My sister is definitely overdramatic. I roll my eyes at her reaction and go change.

I secretly enjoy her reaction. She approves of this dress.

While I shopped within a few minutes, she took a few hours.

I was sitting in the waiting area pondering over why my mom is so stressed about this ball. Like she was always calm while arranging balls and there never was a chaotic day, but lately, things changed. I hear my phone chime and look down to see a text message from my mom.

Mom: Lili, pick me up from the mayor's place when you go home. My car is giving some trouble.

How did she know we were out?

Mom: I called home and Mrs. Clark told me you guys weren't home.

Wow, my mom can read my mind. I mean, she is my mom, I'm sure she can.

I texted a quick okay and was wondering what she is up to.

I am lost in my thoughts until someone came and stood in front of my line of view. I was counting the number of tiles, and this person just disturbed me. Ugh!

I look up to see Ingrid standing there wearing a dress that looks like it made especially for her. The way it snuggly fit her showed off her curves and the bold strapless gown matched her personality too.

Wow. She looks great in this.

"Perfect!" I exclaim in approval and go to pay the bills.

"Take a detour. We have to pick up mom." I say getting in the car in the basement.

On our way home, we go to the Mayor's home and see that the decorations for tomorrow's party were in full swing.

I see my mom in her usual bubble. We go in there to see that it's decorated grandly.  There is a makeshift stage, a bar counter and this was just in one room.

For a small town, they sure know how to party.

My mom left home early the next day. It was very chaotic. She was running around for last-minute arrangements and I helped her, dragging Ingrid with me. My mom looks stressed lately. I wonder if it even is because of the ball or something else?

We reach home with a few hours left for the event and get ready for the ball lest we run late.

After a long hour of torturing my hair into a complicated updo with few curls left out and applying my makeup, Ingrid left me alone to dress up.

My dress was a rich champagne color, laced up at the ends which has layers that opened up below my knee. It has a beautiful halter neck, which is laced and dotted with the most delicate of rhinestones. It was almost backless - only having a button at the top holding it together. I wore my favorite pair of earrings which had a beautiful flower stud at the top and dangling below was a pearl each.

"Lilliiiii! Ingriddd! Come down, we are leaving for the ball," my mom yells.

I immediately grab a silver clutch and open my door when I am greeted with Ingrid bumping straight into me.

"Ouch!" we exclaim simultaneously.

"What were you doing outside my room?" I ask her with my hands on my hips.

"Was coming in to check if you actually got ready or were you daydreaming again."

"Who would I daydream about. I don't even have a boyfriend! "

"All those hot French guys whom we met."

"Aah..!!" I sigh, lost in my la-la land. "They sure are one sight to behold."

" Ingrid, Lili. Down now!! " my mom says, and I hear her footsteps waning in the distance. She was probably going down.

I quickly get up and brush my dress, setting it up and walk with great difficulty in the killer heels that Iddy made me wear. She wore a strapless gown that had white velvet inside and a thin layer of black lace over it. She went bold with that strapless neck. She paired it up with a fierce red lipstick and left her hair loose.

We hurry downstairs and see my mom and dad standing there all set. My mom wore an exquisite black lace gown with some silver work on it and a bow on the waist. It opened up below the waist, and she looked like a killer in that dress. My dad stuck with the black formal.

Our car was waiting in the driveway. We get in and we reach the Mayor's house in twenty minutes, given it's a small town.

The lawn was already sprawling with people. We made our way inside. Soft music was playing in the background and since it is a masquerade ball, I couldn't recognize anyone. The mayor soon made her way to greet my parents.

"Hey Elena. Hello Rick. Finally made it!?" came the mayor's voice whilst hugging my mom.

"Yeah, Annie," my mom replied.

"Well, took you long enough. Hey there kids, how did France treat you guys?"

Did I tell you that the mayor and my mom were best friends? Nah? Well, they are.

"It was very good Mrs. Ann, especially all those hot French gu--" I hit Ingrid in the stomach cutting off her words.

"The hot French Guiana weather. Right, Ingrid." I say, giving her a pointed glare.

"Yeah. The weather was perfect for tan."

"Elena, did you tell the kids?"

"Tell us what?" I turn around to give a questioning look to my mom, but I see her trying to signal aunt to be silent.

"Well?" Ingrid prompts.

"You'll know that by the end of today. I promise now why don't you enjoy yourselves."

"Well, off you girls go. Have some fun." saying so, Aunt shoos us off.

I wonder what is up with Mom. First, she was stressed in the morning, and now she is hiding something. I wonder what is she up to!?
