Chapter 1
I wake up, remembering nothing about myself, not even my own name. The room I'm in is rapidly moving up, churning my stomach. It comes to an abrupt end. I scoot into a corner with my knees to my chest. It felt like forever until the top finally opened and sunlight poured in. "No way, it's a girl" I hear someone say in a thick accent, British? Maybe. I feel a thud and I look up, still huddled in my corner. "I'm Alby, what's your name?" His voice is rough with a tint of kindness. "I-I can't remember." I breathe heavily. He offers a hand and helps me stand up. I hear voices around me, "Ah 'sup Greenie!" "I call dibs!" "She's cute". Alby climbs out but it's just tall enough that I can't climb out myself. I'm quite short if we're all being honest. He offers a hand again and pulls me up, no problem. I take in my surroundings, "Woah.." "Would you like a tour now or later?" the boy with the accent questions. "Now is fine." I give him a smile and the rest of the boys clear out. "I'm Newt by the way." "That's a cool name... I wish I could remember mine." "Don't worry Greenie, you'll get it back eventually." Newt is lovely company; he's very warm and radiates peace. Newt starts off at the kitchen, "This is Frypan." Frypan waves at me and I grin. Newt hands me an apple, I think, I have an idea it is. But apples are really good by the way. Newt continues the tour, munching on his apple as well. By the end, I still have a few questions rattling around but I felt comfortable and more at home. Alby walks back to us, "Ey Greenie, I'll take you to your room." I said goodbye to Newt and promised to talk to him again. Alby showed me my room, it had a lock and a shower separate from the others. "It was my room, but I cleaned it out so you can stay in it, wouldn't want any of those shanks goin' after ya." "Alby! You didn't have to! But thank you, I really appreciate that." We both smiled. "Well, lunch will be soon, tomorrow you start your list to find a proper job for you." He left me to my room and I followed soon after him. I wandered around the... Glade? Yeah, that's the word. I went back to Frypan at the kitchen, "Anything I can help ya with?" "Of course, Greenie! Pick up that knife and I'll show you." By the time lunch came, I had helped Frypan finish lunch AND make dinner AND make snacks for the bonfire that night. It was all for me... I never felt so much love, I think, memories are still gone. The line went through and I served myself. Later that night, the bonfire began a big party.
