It had been about a month since the students of Class A had graduated from UA and became pro heroes.
Well... all of them became heroes except for Izuku Midoriya.
About a week before graduation day, Izuku finally lost the final remaining embers of One For All, making him fully quirkless. He had no choice but to drop out of the Hero Course and give up on his dream.
And already, people had started to forget about him. One by one, people stopped talking about him in favor of talking about his classmates and their flashy quirks.
And even worse, his friends had become so busy with their work that they could barely keep in touch with him. Part of Izuku thinks that the reason they decided not to spend time with him was due to his quirklessness.
But Izuku didn't have time to think about that right now. Shortly after graduating, he was offered a teaching position at UA to help train future heroes. And now he was currently walking to work in the rain while holding an umbrella, when suddenly he was ambushed by a number of thugs.
"Give us your money, kid!" one of the thugs shouted.
Izuku droppped his umbrella and tried to make a run for it, but then he realized he was surrounded by all the thugs
"C- Can't we work this out?" Izuku asked nervously.
But the thugs didn't listen and got closer to him. They were about to attack Izuku, when suddenly...
"Hey!" a voice shouted. A voice that sounded very familiar to Izuku.
They all turned to see a man approach them. A man dressed like this, except his katana is sheathed on his left hip:
(A/N: No, this isn't an MCU crossover and the man in the picture above isn't supposed to be Hawkeye. I'm just using the look because I think it's cool.)
"Who the hell are you supposed to be? Some kind of hero?" one of the thugs asked.
"No... I'm something more." the hooded man said as he put his hand on the hilt of his sheathed katana and got in position.
Half the thugs surrounded the hooded man, while the others kept an eye on Izuku in case he tried to run away.
One of the thugs stood in front of the hooded man and got ready to attack him. But then... basically this happened:
[There should be a GIF or video here. Update the app now to see it.]
(A/N: Start the video at 0:04 and end it at 0:32. Also replace Jin with the hooded man, replace the mongols with the thugs, pretend they're in the city and not in the woods, and pretend the thugs all have melee quirks and are using those to attack instead.)
The other thugs ran away in horror, but the hooded man threw kunai into their backs, killing them.
As for Izuku? He just stood there completely shocked. He had never witnessed such swift and violent deaths, even back when he was fighting the League of Villains.
The hooded man removed the blood from his katana.
Then he turned to face Izuku.
"Who... who are you?" Izuku asked in fear.
"Izuku... it's me." the hooded man said.
The hooded man removed his hood and then his mask. Revealing himself to be...
(A/N: He's not the wearing the same outfit as in the picture above and he doesn't have a cigarette in his mouth either.)
Izuku was beyond shocked.
"DAD?!?!" he said in disbelief.
The man was Hisashi Midoriya. Izuku's father whom had walked out on Izuku and his mom when Izuku was only four, shortly after Izuku was diagnosed as quirkless.
"Hey, kiddo." Hisashi said with a grin, "It's been a whi-"
THWACK!
Hisashi stumbled back and recovered from the punch to the face he had just received from his son.
"Where the hell have you been?!" Izuku angrily shouted with tears running down his cheeks, "It's been 14 years since you left me and mom!"
Hisashi sighed as he rubbed his jaw.
"I know you're angry at me for leaving. And you have every right to be." Hisashi said, "But I left in order to keep you and your mom safe."
"Safe from what?! You just walked out on us as soon as you found out I didn't have a quirk! And suddenly you come back out of nowhere and kill a bunch of guys?!" Izuku shouted, as he was still very angry and confused.
"Izuku, I promise I'll explain everything to you, but first we need to go to my place. Once we're not in public, I'll tell you the full story of why I left and why I'm here now." Hisashi explained.
"I'm not going anywhere with you. Besides, I've got to get to work." Izuku said.
"And how are you gonna explain to your students and coworkers why there's blood all over you?" Hisashi asked as he pointed to Izuku's suit.
Izuku looked at his suit and realized there was a large amount of the thugs' blood that was spattered on it.
"Sorry for being messy." Hisashi said as he rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.
"I'll just report you to the authorities for murder, and you'll never see the outside of a cell again." Izuku said with a glare.
"Trust me, kid, no prison cell can hold me. Besides, if I'm arrested, you'll never get answers as to why I left and why I'm back now." Hisashi pointed out.
Izuku contemplated all this for a moment, and then he made a deep and angry sigh.
"Fine. I'll go with you to your place. But you better have a clean suit for me to wear." Izuku said.
"Don't worry. I've got plenty." Hisashi said.
Hisashi went into a nearby bathroom to change out of his outfit, then he came back out in civilian clothes while carrying his katana and costume in a duffle bag.
Then they got in Hisashi's car that was nearby and drove to a tall building that was located in the heart of Musutafu. On the way there, Izuku texted Nezu and told him that he might not be able to come to work today due to a personal family issue. Nezu texted back saying that it was alright and that he hoped everything was ok.
They entered the building and went all the way up to the penthouse. They entered the penthouse to see that it looked like some sort of modern dojo.
There were katanas displayed on the walls. There were sets of samurai armor on display. And even a banner of some sort hung on a wall.
(A/N: It has this symbol except the triangles are green.)
"Here are some clean clothes. Get changed and I'll explain everything to you." Hisashi said as he handed Izuku some clean clothes.
Izuku went into the bathroom and changed into them, and when he came back out he examined the sets or samurai armor. Some of them looked almost a thousand years old, but were still in very good condition.
"These suits of armor, these weapons you see on the walls; they all belong to our family Clan." Hisashi said as he entered the room while holding two cups of tea.
"You gonna explain to me what's going on now?" Izuku asked.
"Of course." Hisashi said.
They sat down and both drank a cup of tea.
"Let me start at the beginning. The VERY beginning." Hisashi said.
Next is basically like the Mythic Tales in Ghost of Tsushima. Picture the story being told like those.
"Almost a thousand years ago, on the island of Tsushima, the mongol army had invaded from China and planned to turn the island into a base for the mongols to use before invading Japan's mainland. Under the leadership of Khotun Khan, these mongols were violent and ruthless killers. The samurai on the island tried to stop them from invading, but most of them were massacred on Komoda Beach." Hisashi explained.
"Dad, I know the story of the mongol invasion of Tsushima. I learned about it when I was in school." Izuku said in annoyance.
"But what you and a lot of others don't know is how the mongols on Tsushima were defeated. One of the few surviving samurai was a man named Jin Sakai, one of the last surviving members of Clan Sakai. Jin was a skilled and honorable samurai who had been raised and trained by his maternal uncle after Jin's father was killed on the island of Iki when Jin was just a boy. Jin's uncle was Lord Shimura, head of Clan Shimura." explained Hisashi.
Izuku was a bit surprised to hear that there was a samurai with the same last name as Nana and Tenko, but he assumed it was just a coincidence.
"Lord Shimura had been captured by Khotun Khan, while Jin was just barely able to survive the battle on Komoda Beach because he was rescued and healed by a thief named Yuna. The whole reason Yuna rescued Jin was because she needed help rescuing her brother who had also been captured by the mongols, but the two of them soon began to help each other in a lot more ways than that. Jin tried to use the honorable way of the samurai to fight the Khan and free his uncle, but it was no use. Eventually, Jin began to abandon the samurai way and become less honorable... he became The Ghost." Hisashi explained.
"The Ghost? Now that you mention it, I vaguely remember hearing old stories about him when I was a kid. But I thought the Ghost of Tsushima was just a myth. An old legend and nothing more." Izuku said.
"He was a legend alright, but certainly not a myth. The Ghost was real, and he eventually wiped out all the mongols on the island and even eventually killed Khotun Khan." Hisashi said.
"He really wiped out an entire army? All by himself?" Izuku asked in disbelief.
"Not by himself. He had a lot of help from Yuna, his uncle whom he eventually freed, a couple other surviving samurai, Yuna's brother, and some other colorful characters. But Jin did most of the work to be honest." Hisashi explained.
"Wow." Izuku said in astonishment, "So what happened to him?"
"Well that's the thing." Hisashi said as us put his cup of tea down, "Even before the Khan's death, Lord Shimura told Jin that it was wrong for him to kill so dishonorably and asked Jin to stop being the Ghost. Shimura even wanted to adopt Jin as his son and make him the heir to Clan Shimura, but that couldn't happen if Jin continued to be dishonorable. But Jin refused to listen and continued being the Ghost, making him enemies with his uncle. And to make things worse, Jin had used a very deadly poison to kill a number of mongols and prevent innocent soldiers from dying, but the mongols then ended up using that same poison to kill a number of innocent civilians on the island."
"I guess good intentions really can have bad consequences." Izuku said.
"Eventually, Jin managed to kill the Khan and he even got Lord Shimura and his army to help, but after the battle, Jin and Lord Shimura met... for the last time. They ended up at the Shimura family cemetery, and that's when Lord Shimura revealed that not only did the Shōgun disband Clan Sakai, but they also branded Jin a traitor... and they ordered Lord Shimura to kill Jin." Hisashi said gravely.
Izuku gulped.
"And what happened then?" he asked.
"They fought and Jin defeated his uncle. Lord Shimura asked Jin to give him an honorable death, but Jin couldn't bring himself to do it... because he had no more honor. So he left his uncle at the cemetery and continued his fight as the Ghost." Hisashi said, "But as to what happened to them both? Records are scarce, but Lord Shimura was believed to have eventually settled down and started a family, despite his old age. As for Jin? Records of him are also scarce, but once the mongols on Tsushima were completely wiped out, he eventually left the island with Yuna and headed to the mainland of Japan while also laying low from the samurai there. Jin and Yuna then got married, but they had to take on a new last name... they settled on the name Midoriya."
Izuku's eyes widened.
"Wait... you don't mean..." he said.
Hisashi nodded.
"That's right. We're descendants of Jin and Yuna. The two of them started a family and grew old together, and Jin had passed on all he had learned as both a samurai and as the Ghost to their children. He taught them how to wield a katana and all his other pieces of equipment; and he taught them how to be the new Ghosts. Eventually, Jin and Yuna's family became the unofficial clan: Clan Midoriya. Throughout the centuries, the title of the Ghost has been passed down from parent to child in Japan, but our specific bloodline is the only one left who still carries the Ghost title. Our family has secretly been dealing with all sorts of evil threats from the shadows and protecting the innocent for a long time. And when quirks started to emerge a century ago, Clan Midoriya began mastering the quirks they had and integrated them into their fighting techniques as the Ghost. When I was a boy, my father explained to me our family history and trained me to take his place as the next Ghost. I was hoping to train you to be the next Ghost once you got your quirk... but then you didn't." Hisashi said.
It cut out of the Mythic Tales animation and back to real life.
Izuku began to get angry again.
"So you just walked out on me and mom because I didn't have a quirk?!" he said.
"That's not why I left. I had been making a lot of enemies as the Ghost, and if they found out about you then I was worried you wouldn't be able to protect yourself without a quirk. I thought the only way to keep you and your mother safe was to stay away from you both." Hisashi explained.
Izuku calmed down a bit.
"So why did you come back now?" he asked.
"Because now I once again want to train you to be the next Ghost. I thought you still had a bit of One For All left in you and could still be a pro hero, but then you lost what was left of One For All a month ago, so I decided to track you down as soon as I finished dealing with some other threats I had been facing." Hisashi said.
Izuku's eyes widened.
"How do you know about- ?!"
"What part of Ghost do you not understand, son? I was able to put the pieces together pretty easily and learn about the quirk that All Might gave you. I also assume it was you he was referring to when he said Next it's your turn when he was pointing to the camera after his fight with All For One in Kamino?" Hisashi said.
Izuku looked at the ground.
"Yeah. It was. I thought I was gonna get to be the next number one hero and symbol of peace once I graduated, but I instead I'm just a quirkless teacher who no one remembers." he said.
"You still can be a symbol and help others. Let me train you to be the new Ghost, and I promise you, son... you can still be a hero." Hisashi said as he extended his hand out for his son to take.
Izuku knew this was it. He wasn't gonna give up. He wasn't gonna let anything or anyone stop him from achieving his dream.
He took his father's hand.
This book might go through some changes and rewrites once the extension of the manga ending releases in December and/or when Ghost of Yotei releases next year. But until then, enjoy what I've got so far.
