Blessing of Nature
I looked at the silver eyed goddess as she held me by shoulder. I raised an eye before I shake her off and turn around.
"What do we need to talk about Artemis?" I said shortly
"About your temper. It has gotten out of hand these past few weeks" Artemis said in a softer voice "Starting fights at your school, in the streets of New York, with the gods; Percy, your father can't protect you from the mortals and he can't protect you from Zeus forever" she reasoned
I closed my eyes and took several deep breaths allowing the serenity of the nature around me calm my anger. The sound of the wind blowing through the leaves, and the chirping of the birds reminding me there is good left in the world.
"Percy, are you listening?" Artemis asks as she walks up next to me
"Yeah, I'm fine, just calming down a bit" I explain as I sit on a nearby rock and look at the silver eyed goddess "I apologize for causing so many issues, but I cant sit by as I watch my friends at school be bullied, nor innocents out in the street be attacked, and you know my issue with the gods" I finish as I look at some of the trees and spot a few dryads spying on us
"I understand Percy, but you cannot allow your anger to guide your actions, you're a good man, and I don't want to see the only redeeming male in this world to turn into the one thing he despises" Artemis said as she shifted into an eighteen year old and sat next to me "You have a light in you that no other hero has ever had Percy. You're very powerful, yet you don't allow that power to go to your head, your kind, thoughtful, brave... Yet you also hold a darker side of yourself, one that reveals itself in battle, your ruthless, vicious, deadly and primal" She continues which causes me to raise an eyebrow
"Primal?" I ask confused
"Yes, you are more connected to your rage than any other" She said, "Whether that be because of your connection to the sea or something else entirely, your rage makes you as powerful as your kind heart, but you mustn't let it consume you Perseus" She said kindly, which made me do a double take
"Wait, who are you and what have you done with Artemis? You're not the man hating goddess I knew" I say seriously making Artemis laugh
"Like I said before, you're different, your kind and protective, but you understand that others need to fight their battles" She said with a soft smile "So I don't mind being nice to you. But if there was another male, I would rip his genitals off and shove them down his throat" she finished sweetly causing me to nod quickly
"So why did you bring us to the middle of the wilderness? I mean I know you like the forests and all, but wouldn't your temple on Olympus be better?" I ask and once again she looks at me with her vibrant, glowing, silver eyes and smiles
"While that is true, the gods also know of the blessing that was bestowed upon you" She commented "A blessing that has contributed to your fits of rage recently, and your boost of popularity" She explained, and I looked at her as she looked at the trees and the sunlight pouring through "Tell me, do you feel calmer being in the forest?" She asked
"Well, yeah, the serenity of the forest reminds me of what there is to protect in the world, what good there is left. Not to say that western civilization isn't great, but the wilderness in itself contains a beauty that can't be replicated in a city" I comment as I let my muscles relax before allowing myself to slide down the rock and lean against it "When Pan died in the labyrinth, he blessed everyone in the room, but mostly Grover" I commented causing Artemis to shake her head
"He blessed you and Grover the same Perseus, you do not feel its effects because you are not born of nature, as your satyr friend is. Pan saw the untamable waters within you and sought to give you an escape, a way to calm your mind and soul" She explained "However, as soon as you begin your schooling again, you will be away from the forest and ere long you will find it increasingly difficult to contain your anger"
"What do I do then? I mean, I could hunt down every single monster in the next few weeks and vent my anger on them" I offer but Artemis shakes her head and drops down and squats down in front of me
I raise an eyebrow and look at her. Her long auburn hair flowed over her shoulder and her silver eyes stared straight into mine. I shake my head snapping myself out of the trance like state I was in.
"I suggest a more, peaceful method" She commented as she reached forward and pressed her index finger to my forehead
At that moment, I felt a bolt of warmth surge through my veins, which then traveled throughout the rest of my body. Once the feeling vanished, I felt the life around me and I smiled. It was at that moment I felt many pairs of eyes on me and I looked around and saw several dryads staring at me. I looked at Artemis who had frozen in her spot as she stared at me.
"Uh... is there something on my face?" I say uncertainly but Artemis smiles slightly before shaking her head
"No, it's nothing" She said pointedly, and I watched as all the dryads around me vanished
I shrugged as I stood up and looked around a peaceful feeling settling over me.
"Thanks Artemis I do feel a lot better" I say with a smile as Artemis stands up and a light pink tinges her cheeks
"No problem" She muttered before she cleared her throat and looked at me "Your friends should be better by now, come on let's head back to Olympus" She said while trying to contain her emotions
I nod, and Artemis holds out her hand for me to take. As soon as I put my hand in hers, I notice a slight blush rush across her cheeks as she flashes us back to Olympus. Once we arrived at Olympus Artemis immediately let go before flashing to the throne room. I shake my head amused before looking around and walking towards the throne room.
After several minutes of walking and turning down several goddesses, I finally arrived at the throne room. I walked in and noticed the others sitting on the floor with squares of ambrosia in their hands. I walked toward them and glanced around to see the gods looking at me.
"What?" I ask causing most of them to look away and ignore the question except for Hades, Hestia, my Father, and Aphrodite
"You just hold yourself differently son, that's all" My Father said, causing me to nod
"That's not it my dear Perseus" Aphrodite said as she jumped off of her throne and strolled over "What really happened is Artemis just flashed into the room looking very flustered, she said that she had to fight you to calm you down, but I know her true feelings" She continued with a wink as she got close enough to run her hand across my shoulders "And my assumption was confirmed as soon as you walked in, she glanced at you and that blush once again ran across her cheeks" Aphrodite commented and I clenched my fists
"So, what? I am loyal to my girlfriend you tramp" I spit at her but Aphrodite giggles
"Oh, so loyal, tell me Percy, how does Artemis' lips taste? Like evergreens or perhaps mint?" She asked causing my eyes to glance to Annabeth who was looking at me with betrayal
I then scanned the throne room to see shock and anger in my general direction. Everyone looked like they were against me, I closed my eyes and took several deep breaths, trying to reel in my anger.
"Aphrodite, you should stop eating cow pies at night, because you keep spitting up shit, and its not good for your health" I say "Nothing happened between Artemis and myself, we talked, and she unlocked Pan's blessing but if you can't understand that, then I guess I will have to beat it into your brainless skull" I threaten "Apollo, am I lying or am I telling the truth?" I ask without looking at the sun god, my voice dripping with a promise of pain should he lie
"No, you are not lying Perseus, Aphrodite however, is lying out of her ass" Apollo said calmly causing everyone to look at Aphrodite in shock
"You're no fun Perseus" She said not bothering to feel bad
"When you try to ruin people's lives, they usually take offence, so next time, think before you act" I spit at her as I push her off and walk towards the others who started to stand "Come on, let's go" I say
Everyone nods slightly, and we start walking out of the throne room towards the gardens. When we reach them, Annabeth lets go of my hand and stays back.
"Hey Percy, I have to go meet my father for something. I will see you back at camp okay?" She says quickly
"Sure, go ahead Annabeth, tell your father I said hi" I say calmly causing Annabeth to smile and nod before running off
I climbed onto Blackjack and we took off into the air before heading back to Camp. The flight back was calming and peaceful, allowing me to control my anger for the time being.
Annabeth's POV:
I ran down the paths of Olympus, my mind racing at what I heard in the throne room. I didn't want to believe what I heard but I couldn't just out right deny it.
"Everyone is fallible, even Percy" I say to myself as I reach the elevator and start heading down "The walk back to camp should be enough to sort this all out" I continue to mutter as I reach the bottom of the elevator and walk out into New York
I make my way down 34th street and towards the Queens Midtown Tunnel when out of the corner of my eye I spot a sign with the word 'Parthenon written on it'. I quickly divert my attention and I see the sign fully.
'Parthenon Restoration: Sign in inside' The sign read. As I read it, a man walked up next to me and chuckled.
"I see you spotted our sign, are you interested?" he said causing me to look up at him
He had jet black hair and was wearing a black suit with dress pants and shoes. He had a light stubble on his face and dark brown almost black eyes. I caught myself staring and forced myself to look away.
"Um... Yeah, sorry" I said sheepishly while internally scolding myself "Working near the Parthenon has always been a dream of mine, restoring it would be an honor" I said dreamily as I imagined working on my mother's temple
"We have one spot left on our roster if you're interested. If you sign up now, you won't be forced to commit, but if you do intend to stay, then we will need to know by the end of the week, as that is when we head to Athens" He said, and I nodded
"Of course," I responded as we walked across the street and into the building with the sign outside "I would have to talk to my boyfriend about it, and then transfer my classes to online courses" I say calmly as he leads me up to a desk with a sheet of paper with several signatures
"Alton, what are you doing?" Another man asks as he comes from the back of the room "You can't ask her to join the expedition she's like seventeen!" He says incredulously
I frown and stare at the new comer.
"Excuse me sir, I am actually Nineteen, and fully capable of taking care of myself" I declare proudly which only made the new guy roll his eyes
"Yeah sure, still we can't allow you on the team, you need to have had at least finished college and earned a bachelor's degree in architecture" The man said with a taunting smile
I felt the urge to slap him with my computer when an idea stuck in my mind. I opened up my laptop and started going through my files. In a matter of moments, the two men were standing over me and were watching as I pulled up several diagrams that I had created during my free time at camp. I heard a low whistle from Alton, as well as a grunt of acceptance from the other man.
"Alright, you're pretty good, but that could have been done by anyone" The man said still poking at my pride "What else have you done?" he asked
At this I started to freak out. I needed to prove this guy I was eligible to join them in Greece. I thought for a moment before a thought hit me.
"I designed a replica of Olympus and it won first in the nation, it came with a digital model, a physical one, and five hundred pages of measurements and materials needed to build it" I said proudly which caused the man to close his eyes for a few minutes before nodding
"Very well, you can sign, but before we leave you need to bring in this project of yours as proof, and you will need to take care of your classes, once that is finished meet us here and we will give you the run down, got it?" The man said as he held out his hand
I took his hand and shook it "Glad to have the chance..." I say trailing off at the end
"Richard" He said, and I nodded
"Annabeth" I respond, and he smiles
"Nice to meet you, well you better get going, you have a lot of work to do" Richard said as he let go and I sighed in acknowledgement before walking out after signing my name on the paper
After I walked out of the building and down the street, I realized that I was going to go to Greece to work on the Parthenon. The feeling of excitement coursed through me and I leapt into the air in joy.
"I need to tell Chiron" I said happily as I flagged down a taxi and got it to take me near base of Thalia's Tree
Once I got out, I raced to the top and towards the big house. As I reached the porch, I saw Artemis talking to Chiron, I quickly slowed my pace to a walk and hid my smile.
"So, can you convince him Chiron? He needs to learn how to connect with nature more in order to control his anger" Artemis said, and Chiron nodded
"I will see what I can do Lady Artemis, but do note that he may not accept for the sole fact of wanting to be with his friends, and besides your hunters are... not the most welcoming of men" He said, and Artemis nodded before flashing off "Ah, Annabeth, what brings you here, wouldn't you want to be with Percy?" He asks
"Chiron, you won't believe what has just happened!" I said excitedly as he raised his eyebrow "I'm going to Greece to help restore the Parthenon!" I explained, and I watched as Percy walks up casually
"Really? That's amazing!" he said
"What's amazing?" Percy said as he wrapped me in a hug and gave me a kiss on the cheek
"I'm heading to Athens Greece to rebuild the Parthenon!" I said, and Percy smiled
"Alright, when do we head out?" He said, and my mind caught on the word 'We', I looked down and shifted my feet slightly
"Um... it's just going to be me Percy... I just barely convinced the guys running the place to let me in" I said, and he gained a dark look in his eyes but smiled anyway and nodded
"I'm happy for you Annabeth" He said before he looked at his watch "Chiron you said you needed me for something?" He continued
"Yes, come inside and we can talk" Chiron said as he wheeled himself into the big house with Percy following quickly
Shrugging off the feeling of guilt that was building in my stomach I raced to my cabin to start packing my items and to find my Olympus model. Over the next several hours I was the greatest person in the Athena cabin and I was elated to be famous again.
After several hours, the word about me heading to Athens spread around camp like wild fire. As I made my way towards the Pavilion for dinner, campers were congratulating me. When I reached my destination, I noticed that the table reserved for the seven was missing someone, and that someone was sitting alone at the Poseidon table, the food on his plate not even touched despite it missing several pieces for sacrifices.
He was spinning Riptide around in its pen form. I reached the table and looked at everyone with a confused face.
"Is something wrong with Percy?" I ask but everyone shrugs
"We don't know, he's been acting different ever since his talk with Chiron" Nico said, and I knew what was on his mind
"It might be the offer he received from Artemis" I say with a small amount of disgust causing the others too look at me
"What offer? This is the first I heard about anything" Reyna said with a confused look
"He was offered to join the hunt for something or other, but I believe Artemis is just trying to cover up for their relationship or something" I continued with a look of disgust as I glance over at Percy at his table only to see him missing
I looked around to see him walking off toward his cabin. Letting out a huff of annoyance at him I turned back around, made my offerings to my mother and several other gods before I started eating again. I decided not to let anything get me down because my dream was coming true.
After I finished eating, I went back to my cabin to finish packing for my trip. As I was zipping up my suitcase, I noticed a picture with Percy, Grover, and myself in a frame nearby. I smiled sadly as I remembered the day it was taken and how much had changed since then. I shook my head and finished what I was doing before standing up and grabbing the model and putting it next to my bed before climbing in and drifting off into a dreamless sleep.
