Chapt. 9
"So what is your deal?" Tyler asked breaking the silence.
"I'm not sure what you mean," I replied.
"Well you have antlers coming out of you heads and your wearing collars with jingle bells on them."
"Well I don't know what you want to hear."
"I mean Luke found you in an ally on Christmas dressed like a reindeer."
"We are reindeer," I stated bluntly. "And we worked for Santa."
"Worked?" One of the other men asked.
"Yes worked we don't anymore."
"What happened to make you want to leave?"
"That's none of your business." Luke then walked back into the room holding clothes.
"Okay I think these might be a little big for some of you but their Lui's old ones and he's the smallest." He handed each of us a pair of clothes. We all looked at the clothes confused on how to put them on.
"Do you need help getting dressed?" Tyler asked mockingly.
"For your information we have never took off our clothes by ourselves," I said irritated.
"What?! How have you never changed your clothes?"
"You don't need to know how, we'll figure it out."
"Let us help you before you hurt yourself." I looked at the boys and they just stood there. I gave Evan a questioning look and he just shrugged.
"Fine You may help but stop if we tell you to, Okay?" The men nodded in agreement and each walked towards us. Bryce and Scotty backed away a little. Luke went to Bryce and a darker skin toned man went to Scotty. I was so distracted by then I didn't see Tyler come to me.
"You worry to much for them you know that," he startled me and started to help me change.
"Well someone has to protect them," I replied.
"You're all so young how can you have the responsibility for five boys and yourself?"
"No one else is going to be responsible for us so I'm the only one that will." He was going to respond but a gasp cut him off. We looked over and saw Luke covering his mouth. He was looking at Bryce's body which was covered in scars and bruises. I then heard another gasp but it was from the man helping Scotty. Scotty's body was no better than Bryce's, his skin was littered with cuts and bruises.
"What happened?" One of the men asked in a quiet voice.
"It is none of your business now let's just get this done with," I replied angrily. The boys and I got dressed the rest of the way in silence. When we were all finally dressed Luke directed us to sit on the couch.
"We are going to make breakfast so please don't leave here," he said walking with the rest of the men to the kitchen.
