Ch. 6 | Getting Known

"According to prophecy, unexpected alliance of two shall gather it's troopers and gain it's might, starting the well feared war. Great powers requires great sacrifices, thus the loses of defeat.

It is said that by dawn when bullet is shot, and canary bird sings it's phrase, war has been declared."

"Oi,"

I panted, leaning onto a tree to let my feet rest a bit. I watched the Demon slow down to stop, his yellow eyes glancing back to me, telling he wasn't so troubled since this was first time I called out to him in six hours, we had had small talks but that was all. I wasn't entirely trusting him yet. "Please wait up."

He corrected his position so he stood straighter inbetween two big trees, which looked kinda cool. Oh you wonder what was with all the trees? Yeah me too.

But he was the one suggesting it was for the best, taking the main road was probably the worst option if we wanted to keep our equipment and lives from robbers and dangerous creatures. He knew better than I did, that was the truth. So I went along with his plan and allowed him to choose our movements, like he had done for the past two days.

Even though it has been about six hours since we left the village, of that hell hound he had taken quite bossy attitude up... and I was getting comfortable by it.

Why's that?

What am I saying?

When I finally desided to continue I limped my way over to the Demon who patiently waited there, but he didn't budge as I tried to show that we could go. The path in the woods was quite clear, if someone wanted a peaceful and non-disturbed road please take the woods.

"Is the pain unbearable?" He asked with a hint of worry in his tone, but I shaked it off. I knew I was slowing him down already and wasn't going to allow him start carrying me nor patching my leg up. I just had to rest once in a while and that was enough.

"I can manage, at least until we camp for the night." I answered while passing him, not very smoothly but not awkwardly either. I continued going straight forward down a small hill, knowing he was going to follow.

These 'small talks' of ours were something such as this. Comfortable and useful, so our shared trip wouldn't turn too uncomfortable. They came out naturally, it was only matter of time until either of us had something to say. And he had mentioned about two hours earlier that we would settle down for the night when he noticed how my moving begun to slow down.

Such a golden boy... but too golden.

"Just let me know then." The Demon's voice said right behind me, startling the living death out of me. I knew his kind was master of sneaking up and acting silent... but also very merciless and deadly.

I made a single nod, realizing he allowed me to lead this time. Probably so I would tell how fast we would go.

This is going to be one hella of a trip...

The night had fallen over the woods. It was so quiet that I thought all life on Earth was gone, but it came to reason that if you were loud at nights, you got yourself killed.

Even animals knew that.

I didn't know of any of that if he wouldn't told me to speak little quieter, so we wouldn't drawn on us unrequired attention.

So I had shut up for the time being while I watched him working- as in meaning that he dragged two big tree trunks over to a small open place we had chosen to rest in for the night, then how he picked up somewhere near different sizes rocks and made of them small circle. In the circle he collected some dry wood sticks and took out of his small bag somekind of hay, but it was too odd for me to ask what it was.

The coolest thing I've ever seen, was how Demons light up a campfire. He had taken his third's biggest sword out as he placed it near the hay, then he simply dig the sharp tip in it and suddenly before I knew it: the sticks were fully flaming.

I sat down finally to the closest tree trunk he brought and stared the fire then how he lazily sat down on his, opposite of mine. The only thing between us was the campfire, as we exchanged tiny looks once in a while. It wasn't awkward or anything. It was almost like we had known each other for a while, and locking our gazes wasn't so troublesome anymore.

What's he digging of his bag...?

My attention was apparently back on his doings again, because I had no life. What he did was quite entertaining and relaxing to watch. That is, it was until I saw what he took out of his bag and stood up, approaching me.

They were new bandadges, a small tube of something-- and somekind of support?

"We must change your ties." He said before I had the time to argue or ask, as he was already all kneeled down before me. I gapped my jaw and stared him taking my left boot off same as the sock. He worked gentle and delecant, which made my tense outpost relax a bit. The fact how low this Demon goes is far beyond my reach, not a normal person would do this to me. He started to remove the bloody ties and by time got done, he explored my injured foot turning it from side to side, humming somewhat deeply. "It would seem the medicine haven't affected at all since your sudden moving, but it is easily fixed."

"... Sorry." I apologized, knowing how he had suffered already for me. But it wasn't exactly my fault- it was thanks to that Ezekiel! That goddamn tiger, count Damon in also. I hated those two the most in this damned world, and thanks to them my foot's recovery will take some time still. "Of everything really--" Oh wait, what was I doing? I ended up sighing with all the latest episodes scrolling through my mind, this exact moment really troubling me. I knew I should've done it myself... but I didn't know how. I haven't never treated my wounds, I've only let them heal by themselves. "I'm such a burden to you."

He got out a small dagger to cut the bandadge nice and sweep, but before that he had anointed my entire ankle area with his 'healing poison' which seriosly was the greenest substance ever, and then made eye contant. "You are not a burden, miss. We all have our reasons why we are doing what we are, don't think so low of yourself."

... What's his reason to do all this?

I watched his work very carefully, maybe I would learn how to do it by myself one day. He put a first round of bandadge around my leg before settling the supporter against my leg tight, that was when his eyes searched a little help from me. I tried to see the problem first, ending up pressing with my hand the supporter on my leg so he would have a free arm to work.

"Do I hold this?" I asked.

"Yeah." He then moved a little back to tear a piece of the bandadge since his dagger was thrown apparently too far away, his hands wrapped the supporter tightly against my foot.

"When did you buy this?" I questioned, if he had had it all along why didn't he put it in the first place. I knew he had gone off to buy it perhaps, but I wanted to form with him a little longer conversation than just our 'small talks'.

He kept a long pause to himself, using the time wisely when he wrapped extra bandadge around my leg so the supporter wouldn't budge. It was a miracle it wasn't too tight even though it looked like it. "... When you were under attacked by those men."

He got done with my leg as he stood up, but then took a place beside me on the tree trunk. I turned to him a little shocked, until noticed how he stared at my arm's spot. It took a moment before I realized that he ment my arrow wound as I almost screamed ohh out loud, but luckily I remembered that we should stay as quiet as we can.

"I knew one of them would come after me eventually," I sighed, as I took off the jacket on me, as along my tank top a little hesitantly. I knew that the spot needed space and the only way to give him that was to remove most of my clothes, it required for me to stay in my bare bra. "Did I mention that your brother Damon was such a pain in the ass all the time?"

But I tried to keep the conversation on so it wouldn't turn too awkward or uncomfortable.

My apparently funny and sudden statement got him to chuckle a few seconds, it was as if he guessed I was going to say that. The Demon had begun to patch my arm as quickly as possible too, so I wouldn't start panicking. I was quite exposed infront of such a thing...

"I can only guess." He said, shortly and deeply. To me it seemed like he didn't want to speak of it more than that, so I desided not to. It wasn't my place nor my business to start asking why are they enemies. "Let me know if it gets too tight."

Changing the subject, huh?

"Sure thing." I replied, and then it was all just continuing silence. I let him work and fell deep into my thoughts. I couldn't understand why was he like that. I couldn't understand why was he so different from Damon. Their genes and attitude was so different- yet they both remained strong as hell.

I really want to ask.

But too much curiosity gets you easily killed in this world.

"-- Done." After a while he said, my head trying to glance behind how his work looked. I touched the bandadges' soft fabric while slowly turning to him, not really giving so much thought of how almost naked I was. "You may dress up again." He got up quickly and grabbed the bloody ties from the ground, stuffing them into his bag. Wait, why would he do that? "We must get some flesh and fat into that body of yours, I can't believe how your master allowed you to end up like this."

He then begun to dig out of his bag a few pans, some different boxes and sacks of meat, also other kinds of bottles I didn't want to ask. But I just admired his work on the bandadges, and they were too good. Well what I could see was a perfect job done on treating my wounds. And he just kept treating me like I was no slave... like I actually had some meaning in this cursed little Earth.

And he's about to cook food again!

"... I'm afraid all of us human slaves look like this in nowadays, and there's nothing we can really do about it." I added, staring the ground with blank expression. I really didn't know how to think when I got a flashback back in the days when the only food I got in two weeks was a dry hard bread. Masters save money really on that, they don't have to feed their slaves if they don't want to.

I got a heart attack when the Demon smacked his humongous sword on the ground out of nowhere, my eyes staring of what he was so intensively. When I stared, I saw him drawn his weapon back and by the tip of it hung a dead beaver. I swallowed down hard, that was till his position relaxed and he grabbed the liveless animal, turning to me.

"I must get you in shape then." He said quite friendly actually, lowering his deadly weapon down as he took the dead beaver, starting to work on it. I didn't want to see this, so I turned my gaze away to stare deep into the dark woods, trying to ignore the disgusting sounds of him pealing the dead creature.

I didn't know how to answer to his statement, but I wanted to ask something from him. And it really just seemed like a perfect timing to ask as I smiled little by myself.

"What's your name?"

I heard him stop in middle of his brutal job on getting the needed meat out of the beaver, while I looked over to see his helmet risen to stare at me. Now that was just uncomfrtable, but I tugged the smile on my lips relaxingly, letting my arms lean on my knees as I nervously played with my hands. Wow, quite relaxing indeed.

Why does it look like he's having hard time choosing whetever he'll kill me right on the spot or just go along and tell me dangerous information?

It was true that telling own name was dangerous too, but I couldn't exactly travel with a person I knew so less about-- ontop of that he was a Demon.

I needed some basic info. And he knew that also.

I watched his gaze lower down as he had stopped completely working, now his bloody hands/arms rested on his lap. Yeah he sat like a true Indian there his left knee close to his chest while he sat on his right, his arms lazily there. It seemed to me that he expected my question to be made, and that he was forced to answer it. Yet something of his eyes told me that he wanted to say it to me.

"My Demon name is not possible for human ears to understand, but you can call me Alchadar." He told me, nicely and cleverly. I didn't really expect him to answer it as I stared at him for a while, before nodding.

Alchadar.

That's the scariest and creepiest name I've ever heard.

Just like Demons should have.

"Alchadar." I tested the name on my tongue, nodding twicely. Yeah I could spell it, even though it was kinda odd. I knew that Demons had their own language and different kind of 'level' which on they could talk to each other, but human language has really left to be spoken in here. "That's a really powerful name."

I really couldn't tell that I was terrified of him now more than I knew his name.

But then his yellow eyes locked with mine, as if I had to retrieve the flavor. Oh and how right I was. "I believe I can't keep calling you miss, either."

I swallowed again, not cool with the idea. Since when had telling your own name become such a terrible job to just spit it out? I knew I had to tell it to someone some day, and the day had came.

At least I was one of the luckiest ones to know my original name, most slaves forgot it during being called by the slave-number.

"Faith." I said, listening and very monitoring. I just watched every changing look on his face, but really I got nothing else but few nods of his head. He was way cooler and fine with this that it startled me.

"Faith is your original name?" He asked the exact same thing I had thought before, as I calmly nodded. And he also replied the flavor. "That is an unique name you have."

I didn't know why but my cheeks begun to warm up, so I knew I was turning red. I looked away in split second to avoid him from seeing it-- this was just one of the times I was turning shy. Not really being complemented gets you like this. And by a Demon-- I was really stunned and taken back.

But the small almost invicible smirk was not left unseen as I stared at him, and how he got back to work. Poor beaver. I felt something burning in my stomach as I got up and walked a little bit away from the situation, now the smell picking up on my nose. I put my hand infront of my nose and turned my back on him, err, on Alchadar. I didn't know I couldn't stand the look and smell of raw meat.

Ontop of that the work he was doing to it.

I could feel pair of eyes stare at me once in a while, as I finally waved my hand on him. "Let me know when you're re-eady." I got so sick that I got vomiting reaction, as I tried to think anything else but the beaver.

I was really like this? How was I supposed to survive out there!? Like this I wouldn't live longer than few days.

"Understood." I heard a tiny snort coming from him, as I shot a deadly glare back at him. I sat heavily down on the tree trunk my back still facing him, while I stared deep into the woods again. Ugh, was the smell just getting worse?

Was I acting like a child?

Anyway I picked up my bow from the ground and tested little the strap on it, damn it was hard to bend. I tried it more but realized how painful my arm still was so I stopped right there, and only got to settle my arrows into the trug easily that I could pick them better if danger would come.

"Alright, you may look." He had settled up and told me, but I still listened him stuffing something into a sack. Probably the bloody meats. I shut my eyes with the thought of that and swallowed once to keep my morning's meal in, as I turned slowly around to be faced by the fire again. I peeked a bit to see him already settling a small grid above the fire then a pan on it, nextly he just threw completely dry meats on it to be fried.

He didn't use the beaver thank God.

"What's that?" I questioned, retrieving the arm from my face back on my lap, trying not to look so sick. But it seemed that I failed, and I noticed how he chuckled once.

"It's moose's meat, very nutrious and it contains lots of fat which your body requires." He told me, but I still ain't really convinced. With him I feel so relaxed and calm that it brings out a whole new personality I didn't know existed. "You must know this--" Now he had my full attention... and also the fact how he clipped his helmet's back side, removing it right before my eyes. "When you travel with me, you don't have to worry about sharing the food or do we have anything to eat the next day, now it's about you and how we get you back looking strong and powerful."

I stared, bewildered. I didn't know what was the most shocking. What he had said- or his face.

I was sold out to the Devil when I saw his entire look from shoulders to the tip of his hair. His face, was nothing like that of a man's. His skin was similar to darker gray, but hint of black. His jawline appeared to be made out of steel but it just looked like it, his strong back and shoulder muscles really digged through under that armour of his. Maybe some differences I hadn't seen on a Demon was the tiny pimples on his face, but he owned the familiar sexy frowny face of a Demon.

Also the eye catching scar on his neck caught my eye, but for a moment only. Did I mention how enchanting his yellow eyes were now when I saw them fully and without metal objects on the way? I didn't, okay... but I just couldn't concentrate enough.

Oh, and he had these humongous horns stucking out of his forehead which was usual for Demons' outlook, they resemble a fallen sheep or something with it. But those horns can be of use too, they're really hard and can flash any kind of flesh easily.

Alchadar's eyes stared long into mine, while I gapped my mouth open like a fish on the dry ground. I stuttered a bit but finally had words coming out of my mouth. "I, uhh, yeah sure... wow." When I said that I was drawned to reality as I shut my eyes close, scolding mentally myself as I got up. Idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot! "I'll be heading off to sleep is that fine?"

I asked. My eyes closed. Finger rosen up to the sky.

How much of an idiot you want to still make up?

I had already turned around twice and opened my eyes, gasping for air. I had a hottie Demon with me, who was a gentleman, could cook, took care of me, protected me, looked after me- helped me? What did I do to deserve this?

What are you thinking!?

"The food?" Alchadar asked, his tone resembling that of confused. I didn't blame him at all. I just did that so I wouldn't stare at him all the time, which was really really rude.

"What food-- oh right." I was really strangling myself mentally. I collected myself and took in some deep breaths, while finally sitting back down on the tree trunk. I begged for myself not to stare, it was really not cool!

"Here."

My eyes opened softly, as I saw a plate handed over to me. There laid few steaks of beef which looked and smelled delicious, along with a fork which with I could eat them up. I took the plate gladly and settled it down on my lap, sighing to myself as I rose my gaze to make eye contact with him, smiling a bit. "Thank you."

He nodded and retrieved the small smile until he walked over to his place and sat down, starting to eat his meat. I looked at him for a moment but then back down on my plate, taking the fork and one steak as I ripped a part of it and started to chew. It was delicious once again.

I started to stuff the food down my throat again like the first time, I hadn't even realized that I was starving.

I kept eating, in the silence, accompanied by Alchadar. It didn't took long though when he both had finished, then collected the plates and washed them up so no animals wouldn't steal them by night. And then, we both settled down to sleep with no words said.

We didn't have to talk really since we were so exhausted.

It was going to be my first night sleeping under the shining stars and moon. I looked up as I pulled over my cloak more to warm me up, using a bag of my own as a pillow. The stars gloved and the sky was clear. I even saw a shooting star- wishing.

I wish things would work out tomorrow.
