Penny's POV:
I was trying to watch a movie in Leonard and Sheldon's living room, when I heard a loud, low moan.
"What was that?" I whisper, looking around at the dark, empty apartment.
There it was again.
"It's coming from Sheldon's room." Leonard said. "Stay here."
He got up off the couch and went down the short hallway. I heard a muffled conversation coming from the hall next to Sheldon's bedroom.
A few minutes later, Leonard brought Sheldon into the kitchen and gave him some Benadryl. Then Sheldon went back to bed and Leonard sat next to me again. "He couldn't sleep." He told me.
I nodded, lifting popcorn to my mouth.
"Penny!" Sheldon shouted from his room.
Reluctantly, I got up and went to Shelod's room and opened the door. I saw Sheldon"s lanky form laying stiffly under the sheets, his upper body propped up against the headboard. He stared at me with reflective blue eyes. It was really creepy.
I sat down next to me. "Yes, sweetie?" I ask him softly.
"Sing me Soft Kitty."
"You're not sick."
"Insomnia is a type of being sick." He looked at me with those big pleading eyes.
I sigh. "Soft kitty, warm kitty, little ball of furrrrr. Happy kitty, sleepy kitty, purr, purr, purrrrrrrr."
"Penny?"
"What?"
"I'm still not tired."
"Ugh!" I throw my hands up and turn around.
Sheldon turns on the lamp and golden light filled the room. I saw a skinny black book on the bookshelf. I lean over to pull it out. "You've read The Outsiders?" I asked him.
"No." He replied. "I was supposed to read it in high school, but my mother wouldn't let me because she thought it would encourage me to join a gang."
"It's a great book. You really missed out. Here. I'll read it to you. Maybe it'll help you fall asleep."
The man was silent and his eyes glinted in the light. "Alright." He finally said.
"Okay. Here we go." I squeeze in next to him and start reading. "Chapter one. When I stepped out..."
