Snitches Of Two Kinds
The Hufflepuff vs Gryffindor match was a fiasco.
Before the game Percy had talked to his team.
"Hey guys, I know you aren't going to like this but I think we need to throw this game." The team had stopped in their tracks, blinking as if Percy had grown two heads. "Gryffindor needs this win. Hell-the school needs Gryffindor to win this."
"Why?" Carol asked, straighting with a look of betrayal on her face.
"Because Harry needs this." Percy ran a hand through his hair and sighed. "This year has been rough on all of us, but Harry has had it ten times worse. And we don't even need to lose the game, just make it so the point difference isn't that much."
Zacharias spoke up this time. "Why should we care how he feels?"
"You of all people on this team should get it." Percy glared, half-hearted but it seemed to do the trick. "Listen, do you really think I would be asking this is it wasn't important? You've known me since school started, do you think I want any harm to come to Hufflepuff? No, I'm just thinking long term here, we need Gryffindor to win the House Cup again this year. Otherwise it's Slytherin and I know none of you want that."
"How does us throwing the game affect that?" His roommate asked, genuinely confused.
"Because if we close the point distance, that means that Gryffindor can win over Ravenclaw and take over. If we don't there is no chance for them to win. Trust me I did the math." He ran his hand over his face again and met each of their eyes. "Ginny is an amazing Seeker, there's no contest between her and Ravenclaw. Even if we win this game but keep it just small enough, it will work."
"Percy, I don't understand why-" Carol said while sighing. "But I trust you. We'll go easy on them." The team grumbled about it but they all agreed. "As long as we can kick Slytherin's ass I'll agree to this." The girl grinned and Percy grinned right back.
So when it came to getting the Snitch, Percy hesitated for just a second, letting Ginny get it. Luna had made herself a badger hat, and it let out weird growling and chittering noises throughout the game. Poppy was on her toes the whole time cheering Percy on. Piper had taken to wearing a yellow and black scarf, with matching nails-somehow the polish knew what color to be at the time. Tommy even had a pin on his robes, smiling widely next to Luna.
After the game Percy joined the celebration with his friends, but the whole time he's was thinking; only ten points difference, if we kick Slytherin down a few pegs and Ginny can pull the game from Ravenclaw . . . It can still work.
The next day the Quibbler is published. He makes a point of reading it in front of the other Hufflepuffs, grinning the whole time. When Umbridge bans it Percy charms his copy to look like an American magazine on the outside. He passed it around to all those he could, spreading it like wildfire.
That night he wasn't expecting a dream.
He wasn't expecting to watch as Voldemort talked to his underlings. To see Voldemort flash between himself and Harry.
No matter how much Occlumency he learned, it would never block out the dreams he got dude to his other bloodline. The dreams that warned him, that were bred into his kind as some sort of chance of survival.
Percy just woke from his fitful sleep and made his training a little longer that morning. He needed someway to get this stress out in a productive way, and this seemed to do the trick.
He did expect it when Hermione came up to him and told him all about Harry's dream.
He did expect to have to tell her he had the same one and to tell Harry that he needed to block out these things. She told him she already had tried. He told her to try and make the point that Voldemort could use this to trick Harry into doing something stupid.
Percy knew it wouldn't work, but that just meant he needed to keep an extra-careful eye on the Gryffindor boy now.
When Umbridge goes after Trelawney, Percy is right there. Poppy buried her face into Piper's neck, the Slytherin wrapped her arms around the first year, fighting back tears of her own. Percy pulled them both to his side, holding them close. His other hand is on Tommy's shoulder as he stares open-mouthed.
Luna started blinking to clear her large eyes, Percy pulled her towards the other two girls. Tommy tucked himself into Percy's other side, and the older boy guarded all of his friends. This whole display just sent his blood rushing, his heart rate speeding up. He could hear the waves roaring in his ears, begging for him to use them to just wash the Bitch out of the school.
But he couldn't listen to that. It would put too much on the line, reveal too much.
He let a small smile onto his face when the Centaur trotted in. It's not Chiron but the half-man half-horse does strike a cord in Percy, helping ease the crashing of water on rocks echoing in his head.
He shuffled his friends out, making sure to hug them all goodnight. Poppy walked into the Common Room still sniffling. So Percy takes the time to sit down on the couch and talk with her. The first year sat in his lap and tucked herself into his chest. He held her tightly and talked about how this was all going to right itself.
During the first lesson with Firenze Percy made a point to not let himself get too close to the teacher. It wasn't that he was afraid of the Centaur or anything, just worried of what might happen if he happened to get too near him. Piper noticed, throwing him a concerned look. Percy just smiled and waved her off.
The DA meeting that week had Percy on edge. He knew something was up, his hackles were raised the whole time. A sense of dread coiled in his gut, the same he got before a Monster attack. His eyes drifted to the door more times than he could count.
Everyone was doing amazing, a few even getting the Patronus Charm correct. Percy had been able to do it, a Black Mare Pegasus. He had to hold in the laugh threatening to over take him. Blackjack would be proud.
Poppy Had gotten hers as well, a Pole Cat. Perfect for the little Hufflepuff. Piper had praised her for it, going as far as sweeping her up in her arms and spinning around. Tommy and Percy had shared a look, rolled their eyes, then chuckled to themselves.
When Dobby runs in Percy tells everyone to stay calm. "Hurry but don't rush it will just end up in chaos. Don't try for your dorms, try for the closer rooms like the library and Owlery. Now, GO!" He had them filing out of the door, grabbing his friends and trying out a spell he hadn't been able to test yet.
An Invisibility Charm.
It works and his friends run off, Tommy and Luna for their tower, Piper and Poppy for the Owlrey. Neville, another one Percy cast the charm on, ran with Luna and Tommy but broke off to go to the Library.
But Percy himself took off after Harry. The set back had made it so he had to sprint to catch up, however he overtook the younger boy easily. "Hurry." He hissed, taking Harry by the back of his robes and running faster, almost dragging the boy with him.
Damn him, though, because he wasn't fast enough.
They both got tripped up by a Tripping Jinx and hauled off to the Headmaster's office by Umbridge.
The whole time he gets dragged by the Pink Toad he grinned, making sure that her attention was stolen by him and not Harry cowering over on her other side. He could be seen through so easily Percy had to fight sighing.
The boy looked like his puppy had just been taken away.
So Percy made sure to grin like a wolf at both the Minister and Umbridge. He took some time to glare at Percy Weasley, acting all high-and-mighty in the corner. He could never forget how Molly had cried over that worthless redhead kissing up to the Minster.
The girl they brought in only had Percy grinning more, admiring Hermione's handiwork. He made another note to himself, to give the Gryffindor girl a gift in thanks for her magical ability.
The Demigod didn't miss the magic Kingsley wove towards the curly-haired girl, making her eyes go blank and controlling her answers to the Minster and Umbridge. Percy grabbed Harry by the collar when he made to protest Dumbledore taking the fall for the DA, making sure to grab a few of the boy's neck hairs to get his point across.
The Minster had almost completely forgotten about Harry between Percy and Dumbledore. Umbridge's attention was also spent.
When Dumbledore made his leave, the magic exploding in the room, Percy threw himself over Harry, Marietta, and McGonagall who had also dived to cover the two students under her. Dumbledore explained to them the basics of what he was doing, and Percy didn't miss Harry tensing up when the older Wizard touched him.
However, Percy still didn't trust Dumbledore fully. Not Because his heart wasn't in the right place, but the old man had a warped since of how to get what he wanted.
All in all that week was hectic and gave Percy a headache the size of a Clazmonian Sow.
